There’s only one female singer to have the balls to sing this in front of Zeppelin! Ann Wilson nailed it! Perfect!
Ann always kills it.. shes amazing!! one of my top fav performances ever!!
She and Robert Plant sing in similar keys, and she knows how to use her range and uses it well!
That’s facts!!! Queen of women rock vocals! 🙌❤️
The drummer, Jason Bonham, is the son of the late John Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin. He wore the hat like his dad, as did the choir. A very nice sentimental touch to an outstanding performance by Heart.
I remember the moment when they announced John’s passing. 😔
John Bonham was one of, if not THE best Drummer of his time…
John Bonham was the shit on the drums!! There will never be anyone better (at least not in my lifetime). He was to drums, what Eddie Van Halen was to guitar. He had just unadulterated talent.
A PURE GENIUS!!!
Jason Bonham also has his own Led Zeppelin cover band called Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience. They’re actively touring, too.
Jason is also Robert Plant's godson. John and Robert were close friends.
As the story goes Robert Plant had asked Jason to join them at this show, but Jason told him he couldn't due to another engagement. Him turning up as the drummer for this song was a big surprise for Robert. As you can tell from his reaction.
This has to be the GREATEST cover by anyone EVER! Thanks y'all
Next to Shrek 2 Holding out for a Hero 🦸♀️
Totally agree!
I agree 100% Love it ❤ ♥️ ❤
This is tied with Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" for me. Amazing.
Agree 100% Heck, brought tears to my eyes! LOL
Can you imagine the pressure the Heart sisters must have felt having two rock icons Robert Plante and Jimmy Page watching you perform their work? They killed it!
I’d die of fright if I were any of the musicians on that stage. The one I envy the least is the dude playing the guitar solo in front of Jimmy Page. One of the most iconic guitar solos in rock history performed in front of the man who created it.
John Paul Jones was in attendance too....hello
And JPJ...he is there too!
@@danchristopher7957 I know right?
The Wilson sisters are up for it!
What's also impressive is Anne Wilson was in her 60's performing this with such perfection
Truth! I’m so impressed.
She’s a professional. It’s what they do.
@@suzchick just because your a professional, doesn't mean your vocal cords are invulnerable. Just look at Axl Rose or Brian Johnson
@@kz03jdthat’s your comparison? Wow.
@@suzchick What's wrong with my comparison?
Both of them had awesome voices, but they are both sadly past their prime and barely sound like they did in their prime. But you also have people like Robert Plant who in 2007 when he last performed with Led Zeppelin sounded near identical to how he did in the 60's and 70's
A legendary performance. When you can make the original artists cry covering their sing, you have achieved something special. Heart are brilliant.
Plant cry because of Jason not heart performance..
This was the Kennedy Center Honors. The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual honor given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture.
Whoever came up with the idea to have a huge chorus sing is brilliant. This event honored Led Zeppelin, and all those musicians and singers did just that, shooting the song into the stratosphere. Lead singer Robert Plant wiping away his tears says it all. I have seen this video several times and I never get tired watching it.
No one else but Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart could have done ‘Stairway’ justice!
They've been doing it in concert for years and it always brings the house down
100!
I’ve said it on other reaction videos and I’ll say it again here; this is Led Zeppelin finally hearing what we’ve all been hearing all these years every time we listen to Stairway.
When the original members of the band tear up then you know you've done their song justice. Beautifully done tribute.
Before Heart broke in the late 70s, they were basically a Zeppelin cover band. So Ann has had 40 years of practice for this moment. Another cool detail is when they did rehearsals, Dave Grohl played the drums. It wasn’t until the performance that Jason Bonham took over.
Heart is one of the best Zeppelin cover bands of all time. Ann Wilson nails it every time.
Arguably the best live cover of a song ever.
Ann Wilson has one of the greatest voices of all time. To see those Rock Gods moved to tears speaks for itself...
These young men have culture….
I want to assure you…they could still perform that song…they may b old but led Zep still got it!!!💜
I get chills watching this. It’s that great. Seeing Led Zeppelin watch this is incredible. John Bonham’s amazing son Jason on Drums is sublime. The Choir and all the musicians are perfect. Whoever produced this one is a genius. Tim and Fred your reactions are so genuine and fresh! Thank you for this one.
Rock royalty watching their own idols perform an amazing version of the most iconic song in rock. Ann Wilson is the GOAT
This is one of the top performances from "Kennedy Center Honors." Remember seeing it when it aired. I was blown away, then and now! #Heart #LedZepplin
Absolutely TRUE ! ! ! I still weep Mary J Blige covered this song too! Could not hold a candle to THIS performance
@@katielandron2740 WHAT!!?? I will check out UA-cam to see if I can find her performance. Out of respect, I'll keep my personal opinions to myself.
BUT a Respectful and qualify cover by Mary J. ! I thought.
@@autumnsmom1117 ua-cam.com/video/2WBmEP2za8U/v-deo.html
great interview about how this happened.-enjoy!
@@katielandron2740 Thanks
Of note, Ann Wilson, lead singer of Heart, was 61 years old when they performed this song. Her voice never faltered, still amazing!
Kennedy Center Honors is THE BEST AWARD show! Heart Killed it & honored Led Zeppelin.😃❤️
OMG, why am I crying!??? Heart killed it! So cool to see Led Zep totally into it!
I'm crying with you! 😂
I love watching the band respond to this! At this point, they'd been playing that song for 45 years, and to have it honored like that obviously affected them. Great reaction, guys!
This is shortened version of the Kennedy Centers Honors. Led Zepplin ( the 3 surviving members) are being honored.
The guitar riff is known as the "forbidden riff". Every aspiring guitar player who walks into a guitar store wants to pick up a guitar and try that riff. No one can do it right. The store staff will literally take the guitar away from them bc they're gonna screw it up
Without doubt the best cover of this song. The guy in the drums is the son of the original drummer for Zeppelin , John Bonham. This was the Kennedy Center honors
Would have been pretty cool to see Dave on the drums, but I totally understand going with Jason.
I still cry hearing abs watching this video. Not sure if you're aware but after John Bonham died , the NEVER performed this song again. My all time favorite. Nancy Wilson, the choir, everything is magical. You guys rock. Thanks for this.
She sings like that in person...in her 60s? Amazing! It was transcendent!
It is a GREAT form of respect... and LED Zeppelin NEVER ALLOWED anyone to play their songs on movies or commercials, much less SING them!! This was a special allowance. You won't find any more after this performance - they're that serious! ❤ Hugs to you, from Mesa, AZ 🌵
Actually Kashmir was used in Godzilla and The Immigrant Song in Thor Ragnorock...
They used to allow Dread Zeppelin sing their songs, they sold permission for about a buck per song if the story is true. Saw them many times and they were hilarious
They loved it so much they allowed it to be released as a single
That drummer there is the son of Led Zepplin’s drummer who passed..very sentimental for them all 🙏🏼❤️
Ann is over 60, belting that out like that. Amazing. It gives me goosebumps.... xo
My dad LOVES this performance 🤩
We get goosebumps from the choir.
This is not just a song sung well it's an experience.
Greatest female rock singer of all time. No one can cover zeppelin like Ann…
Another phenomenal Kennedy Honor performance is Adam Lambert singing her song Believe to Cher. She was also is tears. He slowed her song down and with his incredible voice it was amazing!
His arrangement and performance were brilliant!
Yes! I also came on here to suggest that you react to Adam Lambert’s rendition of “Believe” also at the Kennedy Honors to celebrate Cher. Her reaction and that of the audience are beautiful.
Guys, that right there is some of the powerful lyrics and music in rock and roll history. Heart did that song justice! Made my night! That's one I grew up listening to. I bought that record nearly 50 years ago when I was in 8th grade, and wore it out playing that song endlessly. 🎯💥🙏
Yep!!! Classic Rock ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I don't think the 'lyrics' are that powerful (Robert wrote it when he was like 19 or 20 and has often said he hated the lyrics he wrote and didn't know what they're about, really...to be interpreted by the listener), it's the power of their music, that guitar solo, the awesome voice of Plant, with the best musicians on the planet playing Page's music..he wrote the music. That's what's so fantastic about this; the buildup, the switch ups, the climax...
How amazing are these sisters. Nancy has a great voice of her own but Ann Wilson... that voice, as strong as its ever been. Love them, this is a classic.
That was fantastic and I agree Tim, so cool watching Led Zeppelin watching their own song performed. Heart did amazing job on this 💕
Loved their reactions!
This version gives me goosebumps from start to finish.
Dayum
Wow! Thank you so much for this reaction video. Stairway to Heaven is (possibly) the best rock n' roll song of all time and this was an amazing cover. Love that you commented on how it made the original artists cry it was so good!
This is the Kennedy Center Honors. The band Led Zeppelin were being inducted into it. They have guest (usually big names in their own right) who preform the inductees’ music, dance, poetry, even scenes of movies to pay tribute to them.
This is a phenomenal tribute to Led Zeppelin. Ann Wilson is amazing - her voice
Greatest cover ever!
The most important part of this is the shots of the men watching their hit performed by Heart. Tears, respect, great song, great
Can't stop watching this! An unbelievable performance in honor of an iconic band.
The single best Rock Performance of all time, Heart singing Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors...
They were being honored I believe at the Kennedy center
This was an iconic performance!!
This was a tribute to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center. Many artists performed, but Heart was incredible. Led Zeppelin is sitting up in the balcony- the camera keeps showing them.
Heart used to open for Led Zepplin back when they used to tour. They were the perfect choice for this cover. Robert Plant doesn't like when people cover this song.... but said this was the best one he's ever heard.
I love the reactions of the remaining Zep members
To add to my one comment, but a bit different, Heart, back in the 70s would cover Led Zeppelin in live performances. It was also so cool to see John Bonham’s son, wearing his distinctive hat, playing drums for his deceased father. 1979 was a cruel year for musicians in general and way too many were lost around that timeframe. I love this performance.
now we're talking about great music 🎶
Amazing, but not shocked at all!! Heart is awesome and has been for decades!!!!! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Yo-yo Ma rocking to the sublime notes of Led Zeppelin
Great original from Led Zeppelin, best rendition from Heart! Awesome!
I was in high school when zeplin did stairway...This version blew me away...Great sound...
No, not too old now to perform, these are the Kennedy Center Honors. They're being honored.
I believe that was when led Zeppelin was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Priceless
The Wilson sisters are 2 of the best things to happen to music!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
You guys are so open to interpretations "covers" of songs. Some people who don't appreciate music just dismiss things like this. I was a teenager when this song was popular. This version gives me chills every time. I appreciate and enjoy both versions.
Such an awesome performance honoring THE Legends, Heart aced it and Jason on drums was just a tear filled moment.
Rock Legends playing for the Rock Gods!!!
@@dorindacunningham9452 🎯🤣🎯🤗💜🎯
Hey guys, this is the greatest rendition of stairway to heaven that I've ever heard!
The type of song to be alone with no distractions to listen to .
There is no one else that could have done this as well as Heart. Immaculate performance
To truly appreciate the gravity of this, go back and listen to Heart's first two or three albums. They were HUGELY influenced by Zeppelin. This is how they said thank you. So beautiful.
Heart is the only band to receive LZ's blessings to play any of their songs
I had my doubts anyone else could do justice to this song, but they did a great job, especially having that big chorus.
Your enthusiasm is infectious, thanks for featuring this epic performance! All the best to you.
This was emotional for the band because of the drummer, who was the son of the original drummer. HOWEVER…….. if you Google the interviews Robert Plant gave afterwards, this was the ONLY performance he approved of. He totally slammed all of the other bands who did covers of their songs at this event - even Lenny Kravitz’s. You should watch the whole thing and watch Robert’s expression through it all. He was very upset about them all, except this one. It’s an interesting read if you care to check it out.
Yes. Heart is the ONLY band with standing permission to perform/cover Led Zep songs during their concerts. Robert Plant feels they are the only ones to do Led Zep songs justice.
I think it is because Heart didn't try to change the song in their own manner, they followed the way LZ did it, and that's how LZ want us to hear this song
I liked all of the performances. The idea was to pay tribute to Zeppelin. Everybody has their own interpretation of things, no one can duplicate Zeppelin. It was a tribute not suppose to be their song exactly as they did it.
@@coxscorner I agree, but apparently Robert Plant did not. You should Google the interviews.
Wow really? I thought Lenny Kravitz killed it. Hmm..
Iconic and beautiful
It is so great to see young people appreciate the music the that touched our souls when we were your age and still full of passion !!!!
YES!
This performance is iconic in and of itself.
Best song done by one of the best voices in rock!
Totally Amazing performance by Heart - and tribute to Led Zeppelin!!! Love it
Stairway to Heaven played at my grade 7 ‘graduation’ so many years ago. That you are loving it decades later touches me.
Heart killed it and Zep was blown away
Love seeing them enjoy. And Yo Yo Ma is smiling.
Spine tingling performance!
When you That song with the black chorus is priceless
I had the opportunity to see Led Zeppelin at the Pontiac Silver Dome right outside Detroit in 1976 1st and best rock concert EVER.......
This was done in FRONT OF LED ZEPPELIN. The drummer's dad was their original drummer, and considered one of the best EVER. His tears were due to jason Bonham's presence. His father John, was a very dear friend of Robert Plant's.
You're saying it right Zep-eh-lin. 2012 Kennedy Center Honors.
That was sooooo emotional for them & Jason on the drums & Jason is wearing his dad John's hat ,I get chills & tear UP EVERYTIME I watch this ...so special & amazing 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Plus the entire choir had matching hats 🎩
@@m3li55a5 yes they all wore the same hats in honor of him ♡♡♡ I was just pointing out Jason was literally wearing his Dad's hat 💙..like I said the whole thing is so amazing...& how he tricked/surprised them to be on drums but they thought he couldn't come,Obama & Michelle in audience, all of it..the emotion on their face ..props to Nancy & Ann too bcuz not only did they SLAY it but can you imagine the pressure of doing one of if not the greatest rock & Roll song ever infront of/ to honor them..that's alot lol & everyone up there was amazing..I get emotional every time 😭
This is one of those "goosebumps" songs! Music of my youth.
May be my favorite performance of all time.
Love me some Stairway to Heaven
Led Zeppelin were undoubtedly the best rock band in the history of the world. Robert Plants primal scream is missing from this. The concert was in honour of them. When the drummer died they died. Now his son plays with them. Jimmy Page was the best guitarist ever to touch a guitar.
Thank you so much for your reaction to one of the best Live moments of music in the last 20 years. The Wilson sisters are amazing
I do believe that at one time, that Heart was the only group Led Zeppelin would give permission to do this song
I love that performance by Heart ❤️❤️ this song was released the year I was born 1975 what a great year & great song to be born too... Much luv from Colorado ❤️
One of my favorite performances by Heart ever!
This song was always the last song at school dances for GenX. If you aren’t familiar with the Wilson sisters, or Heart, check out Barracuda, it’ll blow your mind!
Knowing the story behind the performance, and the fact the late John Bonham's son was the drummer, made the whole thing a really moving moment. I've watched this performance over and over again and never get tired of it.
Robert plant said to Ann that she made him appreciate the song again ❤🥺
That gave me chills!!! Fellas the Kennedy Honors are very special. You must find some of their past shows. The show will educate you about the arts and the artists.
This has to be one of the top 5 rock covers ever.
I never tire of this performance-simply astounding! Cool fact: Heart used to be a Led Zeppelin tribute band before they became big. They did a show in Vancouver, BC Canada when Led Zeppelin saw their show!
I remember when that choir came up and I just thought, oh wow!
Heart really delivered this song.
It was a awesome night watching it.
Thank you, guys for replaying it. 🎩 🎤 🥁 🎸 ROCK N ROLL ❤️
Went to Ann's house with many neighbors to a BBQ in '79 on Lake Washington.
Played guitar next to Ann (many Beatle songs and Carpenters, etc...)
She moved my hair ! Such a great vocalist.
Have many videos of Heart full shows. TacomaPaul on UA-cam.
OMG! How cool is that!!!!!
One of rocks iconic songs of all time! Stairway to Heaven!
