Pond Spring Startup waterfall pump and skimmer box
Getting your pond running in the spring is one of my favorite things to do. After laying dormant all winter, it’s time to bring your backyard back to life. I begin my pond startup with the skimmer box and waterfall pump. Cleaning and checking your pump is essential to making sure you will have a smooth season ahead.
This is the best time to clean out your skimmer box and get things moving. Getting your pump running in early spring helps to keep your fish healthy as well. By circulating the water, you provide much needed oxygen to help your fish transition into spring.
Once you get everything moving again, you will need to clean your filter pads more often. They will be filtering out all the debris, and algae that has accumulated over the winter.
If you let the filter pads get too full, you run the risk of starving your pump, and it could run dry. If your pump runs dry, you will burn out the motor.
