I dont think either of lewis and theo understand how difficult it is to control the ball and possession without a midfielder who can do the same. Playing Rice in a 6 with two midfielders who want to be in and around the box leaves any possibilities for control in midfield. Rice is not a controller, england have one but are very less likely to play him.
Totally agree mate, they just shout ‘press high’ which is precisely what we do we just don’t do it well because Kane struggles to lead a press and clearly the structure isn’t there. It’s still on Southgate but sick of people saying we just sit back by choice, we haven’t been able to really control any games so far that’s not because he’s telling them to ‘camp on their box’

Omd Foden controls the play for man city my arse😂. Tom is right Spain players since they were young play tiki taka. Theo says why can’t these players play like this for England and the reason is players like Rodri de bruyne enable Foden to do that. Theo is the most stupid person of all time. It’s horrid. Lewis is bang on about it’s Southgate’s fault. That Germany team which we beat in 2021 got knocked out of two group stages either side of that tournament. In the 2018 World Cup where we got to the semis we beat Tunisia, Panama and Sweden. We drew to Colombia and lost to Belgium and Croatia. The manager has got lucky the whole time and should of been gone a long time ago

What Lewis and Theo were saying early doors about 'extra' teams is correct, they both were referring to how some teams (like Georgia) could be considered 'extra' as they qualified through the Nations League, and that hasn't happened before. The other boys just jumped in thinking they were meaning 3rd place finishers in the groups.
They did this for Euro 2020 as well that's how Hungary, North Macedonia, Scotland and Slovakia qualified

Bowden is absolutely right(can’t believe I’ve said that). Look at the last three tournaments. Soon as we played against a good team got knocked out. 2018 World Cup lost to Belgium twice and Croatia. Last euros had Ukraine in the quarters and Denmark in the semis and a Germany team that went out in the group stages in both world cups either side. Last World Cup went out in the quarters against france(forgivable given it’s France).

To answer toms "why is it always the managers fault" because managers are responsible for picking the starting 11 and bench, they decide the tactical setup, the manager is entirely responsible for creating cohesion between the players he not only brings along but plays on the pitch, if players can't play together, ie the golden generation with Gerrard lampard and scholes all fighting for the same space whilst playing together, alongside Beckham who occupied similar space, the managers choose names over fit, especially in England's case which constantly leads to star-studded teams that underperform, Southgate had one half decent tournament in 2018, whilst having the easiest run I've ever seen in a major international tournament, with arguably the weakest team he's fielded he had them playing actual football, yet with all these clearly much more talented players he couldn't find a way to get them playing as an actual team instead of as 11 individuals.
