B mode is for engine braking and thus wastes energy. Only use it when descending a hill, your batteries are full and you want to save your brakes from overheating. So only useful when descending a mountain. Otherwise you're wasting power and fuel.

@@marcoscal98 B uses petrol engige to brake, not electric motor. I tried with hybrid assist to see all the numbers in real time.

You drive with Brake mode. Use instead Drive mode so the engine also makes less noise.
The real fuel consumption of the car is fairly close to the official claimed by Toyota,which i think that is very positive.

First thx for video but you really cant drive hybrid :) well you can drive it but not economically.. you drive it like "full gas no gas all the time" . I am sure that you heard about "pulse and glide" technik. Looks like you dont want to show us real potencial about this car. You prefer Fiesta and Polo or what? You have fuel consumption over 5 L , you dont drive in EV mode more then a couple of seconds. This car can do city driving in ev 70 % + time.. You should have 4 l /100 km or even less. B mode is for heavy hills not driving on highways, with that kind of a driving you kill fuel economy and make this car look like a bad choice. Its like saying "rather buy Fiesta it has same fuel consumption and more HP" :)

Mazda 2 of all small cars have the best fuel consumption 5.5 average and it's natural aspirated.
And yeah, polo, fiesta and other small cars in this segment especially German cars, are crap comparing to Japanese.
I have both Polo 2019 and Mazda 2 2019. And polo is a peace of shit.
@@morishogo144 yeah Joe is against hybrids and dont know why. In one of his video about old yaris hybrid he said that he had 8.5L/100 km but I think he drove the car 2 km. Hybrid car has a process, when you start the car and engine is cold you drive couple of meters purely on battery (30 seconds) then engine kicks in and starts to warm up and you drive on battery that time while motor is warming up. Motor is runing but you drive on battery only. You can feel it and hear it, when you accelerate engine doesnt change rpm. Only if you "floor it" engine kick in and change sound. Who floor the gas pedal when engine is cold? Joe.. You can see it in his videos. Computer in that case shows higher consumption first 3 minutes to compensate driving on battery and get real economy figures at the end. After 3 minutes engine is hot enough, computer economy start falling rapidly and yaris work normally as most of the time.. I have gen 3 yaris hybrid 2020 july and I have 4.2 L/100 average consumption after 2300km easy/ normal driving. 27L of gasoline and 640 kilmoetres. Do your math. Even when I drive it like crazy in city with full gas on traffic lights until 60km/h to annoy people ( yaris is very fast car 0-50km/h because of combined electric and motor torque) :) i can get under 5.5 L /100 km . I think joe didnt do 100 km combine with hybrid yaris, he doesnt even know how to drive it and he probably made up or do some errors when reading data from computer because yaris has advance statistic. On one of his video yaris showed on middle screen 5l consumption, he claimed in that test 6.2 consumption so... Even on spritzmonitor yaris is second best economic petrol car together with hyundai with 4.8 L avg among 1629 of users. Great !www.spritmonitor.de/en/evaluation/economic_models.html Mazda 2 diesel has 5.0 so you can imagine how efficient car is this, and quiet. Great car, look on youtube you will see new yaris gen 4 getting 3.5 L easilly. It is best hot hatch small car in the world, period. Others are 20 year behind toyotas hybrids
IMO that'a s great test showing what will be the economy when you don't drive like a grandma. With this kind of driving the normal Yaris will have a consumption somewhere around 8.5-9 (I have one). So 5.3 is quite an improvement. And this car will have way better economy if he'll dose braking to the level when it's regenerating energy. You can still floor it and get good mileage by you have to be more gentle with your brakes.

B mode is not for city driving at all. It's only for downhill cases to protect breaks and battery. Buy driving in B mode in normal conditions you're actually wasting energy not gaining it.
I really love your channel, it's my favourite one regarding this kind of content. Everytime I need to see a POV I come here! I don't really like the Yaris' design, but it is a very valid car and maybe one of the best city cars on the market, even regarding consumption. It's the car I need!

Finally a Japanese brand made a b class economy car it looks good and performs well and it is hybrid ,the interior is awesome, it is better than Honda trash.

Learning to drive one of these and my dad has one so very familiar with this car and I still really like it. Great to drive aswell as fun. Not the meantion the fuel sipping engine ⛽

Regen braking for you to be silent! In fact, the brake recharges the battery, and also, this video does not hurt anyone! It was better than have to drive with the 2-stroke Trabant hatchback!

I've driven this car and all i can say it is a super good car. The only bad thing about this car is the jbl sound system. There is no subwoofer so the sound is not that great.
Thank goodness that on this they had said that the scooter effect was attenuated. It is exactly like the previous one......

Toyota literally says dont drive in B unless you are braking or going down a hill, its not for motorway driving.
Thx for the test and the real life fuel consumption measurements. I have a similar driving style, and 5,3L/100 km is not too bad. Even though a Fiesta is more fun to drive I'm inclined to buy the Yaris since iit's more economical and more relaxing to drive.

Over 25000 euros for this car in Portugal. There's no way one can't think of a bigger, better car for the money spent. Overpriced.
I'm having that problem. I'm on the process of buying a new car and selling the one I have, but I wanted to choose between Toyota and Honda (and maybe Hyundai) but their cars are so expensive is ridiculous.
@@tatianalopes6410 you should always negotiate the price, and there is no better time to buy than right now! Remember to perform a test drive on all options you're considering and make the salesman know you are aware of the prices being asked by the competition.
