The magnet thing is a must.
I’ve found where even if I don’t drop one my cat Always finds a hook or something small on my desk and gets it to the floor
Great ideas. The magnet is genius. Missing flies hooks and beads will hopefully be dredged up
Thanks Colin. Always fun to have new tricks in the tying room 👍
Nice video Colin 👍. The uni thread is Dacron based, which is used. To stitch sofa material 2gether.
You got me to thinking (dangerous, I know). I used to do a lot of sewing (my wife and I did historical reenacting) and then you mentioned Big Fly Thread. Sewing thread is measured in Tex. I did a quick lookup and found that 1 Tex = 9 Denier. So the synthetic thread I have on hand at Tex 40 is the equivalent of 360 Den. And I pay $2.35US for 1093 yards (yes, one thousand ninety three yards). There are also lots of sewing "notions" that are used as thread keepers. I have a 2 pound peanut butter jar full of silicone keepers. Since most sewing spools are the same size as fly tying spools (or close enough), they work. I just checked and you can get thread up to a whopping 270 Tex. That's 2430 Den. I'd love to see some flies tied with that!
Great ideas, thanks Colin. Definitely going to be trying some of these soon.
Thanks , The magnet is a life savor with dogs in the house.
In addition to the magnet idea strong uv light not only cures new resins, but will light up dropped beads and other materials under the desk.
excellent idea, thanks for sharing!
Those uni straps look really good!
They are!
Thank you for the 5 tips for tying products. I use a magnet on a popsicle stick, but maybe I should up grade! 🙂
I bought rolling 5 drawer carts that are that height and store materials in the drawers.
Great idea, seen those at Michaels stores. Thanks for feedback
Nice, specially to new fly tyers like me. 👍
Where do you purchase UNI products? As far as I know, they aren't available in Iowa, and not available directly from the company.
If you go to the UNI website and check out flyshops/dealers/distributors you will see that someone does distribute their product in Iowa: uniproducts.com/distributorsretailers Hope this helps
Whole black pepper is amazing to keep bugs away.
Did not know that, thanks for passing on!
May be a thought to add a pack or two of desiccant to the dubbing/hair bin. Cheap insurance??
Is that an issue with moisture? I do put those bags in with my fly bpxes
For a minute there, I thought " What! Larry Bird is doing fly fishing videos"?!?
Yes, Larry has picked up fly fishing and loves it!
Uni Strap seems to be tough to get….maybe just me.
JStockard has some as do some European shops
If you go to the UNI Products website, you can email them to ask who carries these handy little straps: www.uniproducts.com
First
I need better glasses! haha
Once I get down to the 12 14-16 size, my age starts letting me know...I can't see!! haha
Thats one of the reasons why I like tying streamers, poppers, etc....have a tough time seeing small hooks as well! Thanks
I didn't realize Larry Bird was into fly fishing!
Oh he is, once he retired from playing for the Celtics he found a passion for fly fishing and fly tying!
