BNC#6: Phil Craig Q&A - Cape Independence movement is gaining momentum

  • Опубліковано 10 вер 2024
  • In a Q&A session at BNC#6 in Hermanus, Alec Hogg and Phil Craig discussed the potential for Cape Independence within South Africa. Craig advocates for a referendum on the matter, emphasising the importance of democracy and self-determination. He addressed concerns about international support, potential economic impacts like the oil and gas discovery, and the necessity for negotiations. Craig also discusses the boundaries and viability of an independent Cape, acknowledging the complexity of the issue. Despite challenges, he remains optimistic about the growing support for Cape Independence.

To pay for the national debt they will have to run a surplus, or issue Western Cape bonds. Who is going to buy the bonds unless the currency is backed by something tangible like gold? They can't use the Rand as then they won't be independent of the SARB. They can't use the dollar otherwise they will tie themselves to US interest rates with $34 Trillion debt. How will they borrow money to get the new country going? Who is going to fund state/government pensions and what currency will they be paid in?

Wouldn't issuing WC bonds to pay for their national debt be taking out debt to pay another debt? Does that make sense?
I also want to know if they have considered the impact on the business operations of WC headquartered companies with RSA wide revenue, say, PnP or Shoprite or Capitec or WC agri products sold nationally or other SME's in WC that have national RSA revenue. I am all for cape independence as option B if we continue in a downward spiral after May with the ANC/EFF/MK at the helm. Especially as the constitution supports this.
But we have to remember that after May another 2 provinces definitely will be governed by opposition coalition parties namely KZN & Gauteng. This changes the playing field significantly for the 2026 local elections and 2029 national elections.
We must also remember that around 10 million people who can vote just have not been voting because of the cesspool that is South African politics. Most decent South Africans want to just get along with their lives and not participate in race & division politics. If those people decide to participate in elections again due to there being plenty of decent options around this time then there is no chance the ANC/EFF/MK will govern ever again provincially or nationally.
Whatever the outcome, I think we can all agree that the political system as a whole needs to be changed completely to give power back to the people and away from political parties, billionaires and corporations.

You talk a lot but know so little. Off course it's important were people come from - firstly, Phil himself acknowledged this when he was asked the question by the lady with brown hair who said it was offensive to her that a UK citizen should come with divisive politics in SA. Go and relisten to that segment and you'll hear Phil acknowledge this.
Also take, for example, legibility for being a President of a country depending on whether you are born a citizen of that country or not. This shows that where.you are born is important.
Phil was not born in SA. His paternal and maternal ancestry is not deeply rooted in SA as perhaps yours is. So, it's far less emotional and sentimental for him to break SA apart, he doesn't feel it as much as someone whose paternal and maternal ancestry is deeply rooted here.

Palestine isn't even recognised by the international community as a sovereign state.
And as I said on all the previous posts about it.
Who will pay to set this new sovereign country up.
Brexit was a 4 year massively costly divorce settlement. All the parties were first sovereign states already.
You need to create your own SARS during the divorce. As well as reserve bank. That interfaces with all the South African banks.
Someone needs to fund it. As long the divorce isn't finalised citizens will still need to pay tax to SA through SARS.
And that is just the cost of how to get money from citizens.
What about the cost to set everything else up?
And pay SA for everything that they own which will be acquired. You don't think it will be free do you?

You are being dishonest. The Western Cape secessionists are the ones who are being undemocratic. Let me explain:
Their hripe is that they've never voted for the party that has been winning the national government elections. So, in thier logic, if you lose free and fair democratic elections, then you must throw your toy out of the cot and scream that you want to get out (secession).
But in democracy there are elections winners and elections losers so to speak. So Cape independence is really people that can't abide by the outcomes of democratic process of free and fair elections. The better option would have been to pit together a better elections proposal to beat the national government incumbents (which is what the MPC) is trying to do.
