Really funny how there are a bunch of old heads who were like "there are no technical guitarists anymore" and "bands don't even need bassists anymore, they just program everything" and then polyphia comes out with extremely technical guitar playing, including the bass, and the same people are like "I'm so tired of this polyphia style playing" like bro you just hate it bc its new. Your old favs are still available, you can still listen to that old shit you grew up on. Don't just move the goal posts until you no longer have to listen to new music bc "it's all bad" you never HAD to listen in the first place. This band is full of insanely talented musicians and i think that's nothing short of fantastic for the future of music.
From the interviews ive watched with the band, Tim programs the drums digitally and then hands them over Clay Aeschliman (Drummer) to play on the track and add some additional flair. There is definitely post production added to the videos, I love Polyphia, I love learning to play and listening to them, but any of these comments saying its just a drum kit is full of shit, your comment about them using a MIDI drum set and adding sounds post production is correct.
They use 'triggers' on the drums. These send signals to a electric drum module or computer so you get the organic drum sound but can layer it or replace the sound in the recording with a digital sound/sample
While I can't say for certain about this specific song - though it does sound exactly like the others-they're replacing the drum kicks with an electronic kick and layering an 808 throughout the tracks, with only the top end being audible. Tim himself confirmed this in a Rick Beato interview while discussing their latest album "Remember That You Will Die", which I highly recommend watching. Just wanted to clear that up! I saw them last year at Rock am Ring, and Clay (their drummer) can definitely play these parts live - amazing band overall!
The drumming thing you’re talking about is triggers, I think, drummers like using them for their kick because regardless of how hard or soft they put their foot down on the kick pedal it’s the same ‘triggered’ kick sound every time. I think 😅. Same goes for snare or toms or whatever if they’re also triggered, but I could be wrong.
There's no 808, your ears are tricking you into thinking it is one sound. What you are actually hearing is the drums and bass simultaneously. When combined this sounds electronically made. The drummer and bassist have to be perfectly synchronised to sound like this. The talent on display here is insane.

The bassist and drummer are completely on point together. It’s amazing.

Its like having Marcin in a band. Very good, but a bit to close to his talent imo.
