I love these Letterman comedy bits from the 80's. Like Dave said it was "juvenile and silly", it also happened to be very funny. This is so much better than his bland CBS show and having celebrities like Dr. Phil read the Top 10 list. Very mainstream and boring.
It's crazy how there are entire UA-cam channels based on this concept. Along with dropping stuff from buildings, how ridiculous is that? Dave is the best!
The joke about announcing Tom Hanks for tomorrow and then having him come in from the hallway seems very familiar. Did he repeat that joke with any other guests?
Why is everyone calling Dave an a**hole ?? The man is incredibly funny and talented, and I wish he did not retire. I think he should've stuck around for at least another 10 years.
It was just his style. This guy was supposed to be the host of the tonight show. Leno was ok but letterman wasn't kissing nbc ass like Leno did to get the tonight show. Carson was right in liking letterman and even wrote jokes for his monologues.

David Letterman was a very funny host. But think about it for a minute - he hired some very talented writers to come up with a lot of these zany ideas.
