Hey gene, used these tips at my tournament this past Sunday and was able to find the mega spot on the small lake we were fishing (41 acres lol). We found this spot about 20 minutes into the tornament and stayed all day just catching fish after fish when everyone else could barely catch 1 or 2. Ended up winning by 6 lbs. Thanks again, your vids work.
major throwback for me because this guy right here was the start of bass fishing for me, this was the first video i watched too. thanks flukemaster you got me to a different level in bass fishing. good luck to you in the future
I catch many bass on shore in big lakes such as Folsom Lake. The trick is finding points. Any area where there is rock ledges that have shallow water to deep water. These are called drop offs and are big areas for bass. The best places to get the monster bass are around submerged trees. Flick a finesse worm in these areas and wait should take 4 to 6 minutes per cast. Have never used a fish finder in my life and have caught 10-13lb bass. I don't recommend crank baits for the inshore fisherman. Finesse is key for shore fishermen.
wow your a genius you gave me hope just when I was about to quit fishing I've never been able to catch a bass.been fishing for bass for about 3 years now.thanks
Some very interesting info there. Would love to come across the pond and make a bass fishing video one day, shame we don't have bass over here in the UK.
I just found your channel in the last week or so. As someone who's fished their entire life, you've been exceptionally helpful. You've helped me right bad habits I learned early on fishin in the low country. When I first moved up North I didn't catch nothin for 6 months, water's too clear and you need all these ultralight setups. Anyhow, you've been great and I've actually gotten the missus into it as well, your approach hooked her in.
I wish I had pike where I live. We have a bunch of bass, but I’d like to fish for pike once in a while. On the flip side, we get an awesome striped bass run up the coast in salt water every fall and spring.
I do that all the time.. I find my self scratching my head, then I pull out my phone and search for a video Gene has posted with similar fishing conditions I'm facing... lol
Now that is old school! I learned to think like that from my uncle. He use to fish tournaments before modern depth finders were invented. He thought the same way, back then. That's how most of us do it,to some extent. But the fact you did it without a topo, made me think of a much earlier time. It's like a mountain man mentality. I love it!
well, it's good to see even the pros get the dreaded nest, even if it was dismantled in 1.2 seconds without you ever stopping your lecture.. good job and great info. thanks man.
I'm new to fishing, but isn't a fish finder sort of... lame? I mean technology is great and all, but isn't fishing about finding the spot the caveman way and getting gratification out of it that way?
A "fish finder" isn't lamest all, it is a tool to help you be s better fisherman. 9 times out of 10 you are looking for baitfish and not the gamefish anyways and even when you do locate a likely area that doesn't mean you are gong to catch them at all.
You explained it well in your question ....why do anything the caveman way when we are in the 21st century. Plus if you think a fish finder will make you catch fish then you are certainly mistaken .... it's a tool to enhance your potential. You will appreciate, understand and know it in time. BUT do not stop asking questions or questioning anything about the great outdoors .... you keep growing that way. Good luck and welcome to a life long addiction and hobby.
I have been a subscriber to your videos for about a year now and I have to say. Every time I get an email saying you have a new video out, I get the same feeling like I got a check in the mail. Love your videos. I am a fair weather fisherman and you helped me get through the winter. Thanks a lot , great work. I especially like that new camera on the back of the boat. Great viewing angle. Thanks.
then your not that hard core into fishing, and even if you couldn't afford a nice bass boat, a 12 ft aluminum flat bottom you can pick up used for like 750-800 bucks
Typical complaints, then how about search for how to find bass without a boat or fish finder, don't fuss at somebody because they're doing a bit better in life financially. That's a weak man's move. If you don't have enough money to buy things you want, get a better job? Learn a trade? One thing is a guarantee, bitching at somebody for having a boat isn't gonna improve your life at all.
This video was insanely relevant to my trip last weekend. Got caught up fishing good looking water instead of looking for bait. Towards the end of the trip we found tons of bait in the back of a creek and started catching 3-5lb. fish instead of 1lbers. Noticed the water was also a lot cleaner than the majority of what we had been seeing on the north end of Clarks Hill as well.
Concise and clear, makes sense to me. I am not a fan of fish finders, just old school I guess. I keep my numbers up when I'm in the yak. Thanks for the tutorial!!! fish on brother
I loved your video it was very helpful! I just had a competition yesterday and used your knowledge to help me locate and find where the bass were hanging out. Thank you so much, you helped me and my team out alot!
Enjoy your videos, very informative, Ive learned a lot from you over the past few months, and I have caught a few nice fish using some of your methods. Keep up the good work!
Well thanks for taking the time to help a new tournament fisherman like me out.. I've fished my whole life but tournament fishing is a whole nother world....I'll let u know how everything goes on the 12th, I'll try to keep my confidence up and be flexible. I also am gonna try to fish the conditions that day and not use too many past experiences dictate what I do....thanks again
Great video! I have been struggling finding fish this spring here in northwest Arkansas. Beaver is a tough lake especially when you can't find Fish. This will give me insight that I can put to practice this week. Thank you!
Good work I like the tall camera at stern. I've been fishing 30 years and I can get stubborn looking for fish by just hitting spots that look fishy or held fish in the past. I enjoy this type of content.
i used your method today, by finding alot of fish, following my lure... i caught alot of bass today. i used a power worm texas rigged and was slamming them left and right.. thank you for your tips
Yet another awesome video, learning so much through these vids, can't wait to get out there and try these things, looking forward to the Bass hunt,LOL, thanks. Been watching alot of your videos, find them very informative, started fishing Bass again last year, was fishing trout mostly, but through your videos, I am stepping back into the Bass arena and hope to take it to the next level
I cant wait to use this next year. I dont personally have a boat but I am saving with my cousin to buy one and hopefully we can make some memories and catch some bass with it. While I am making it I will be doing some videos of how and what i am doing with it. I plan on making a bass boat out of a flat bottomed john boat or one that you see the fans on and putting a troling motor and fish finder on and that will work just fine for me but I will use this info the next time i am out on a boat. Thanks gene
You caught more big fish in one day than I have in a lifetime. Pretty cool. Rainbow trout seems to be the only thing I can get. Still fun to do with my 7 yr old girl though. Thanks for the video man!
I want to thank you for helping me become a better bass fisherman..... I had questions and you answered them and your videos helped me and now I am a much better bass fisherman.... I watched your videos on flukes and now flukes are my confidence bait... I caught a nice 6 pounder off of it the first day I fished with it and I keep catching bass with it, I'm getting JJ's magic because I saw the video you had on it where you were catching fish every cast.... I just need help on crankbaits but I'm pretty good with soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and jigs..... I'm really not into top water as much but anyway thanks Gene
Thank you for share all your videos. Im a fan of your vids. I have almost 3 years going to bass fish in to the Amistad Lake Del Rio Tx. South Texas. No dobut about it, I have lerned a lot from your vids. So thank you
Great video and a ton of really good info here! A lot of what you say translates really well to what we do up in the Chesapeake Bay for stripers. Thanks for posting!
Great method for us kayak anglers and all anglers alike. We dont always have the ability to beat the banks and fly back and forth to different parts of the lake. "You gotta find the fish to catch the fish".
In all honesty I thought you were crazy about the hook position with the crank bait until I saw your results with the crawdad! Thanks for the video I'm new to bass, fished darn near everything else but bass seems to be my struggle lol. Good Luck!
I just click on genes videos when there is a big fish in the thumbnail. And I just love watching him catch so many. Like if u agree and like watching him fish.
I wish I could would have thought to get my camera out last weekend. Caught a nice 5 pounder thanks to a thing or two I learned from your videos. Subscribed! :)
Cool as cucumber catching that young stripper early on, I would have been cheesing a bit more. Good video, I just took a boat out yesterday on Occoquan river in Virginia hoping for largemouth bass and all I got were a few crappies so I came to learn haha.
The fish finder is the # 1 equipment for fishing it don't mean there going to bit, but it tells where the fish are and greatly improves your chances as most fish will school
Fluke, you should definitly make another ones of these videos but for fishing on land. I fish in a long strip of a canal in my backyard and have caught lots of bass, but for some reason this summer/spring I havent been catching too many. I see gars, brim, mullet, catfish but thats about it. Not sure if there is even any bass in the water. Please consider making a video on this. It would be very helpful to us fisherman without a boat and fish finder.
Check out my Live Hangout about bank fishing. It covers a lot of this. The rod and reels that I use are Duckett Micro Magics $160 and Abu Garcia Revos ($130 - $200)
I love watching your videos and they by far have the most information, the one thing I would recommend is have one go pro facing you and one facing where you cast. Have you in the bottom corner explaining like normal in a small box and have where you are casting has the over all video. Then we have see the cover you are explain and see what to cast to. Great videos again I just need to see what you are talking about when you are talking about the shore line or a tree thats in the water. Thanks Jeff
I love the idea Jeff. I've been trying to figure out how to do it with a GoPro. The problem is that a GoPro can't zoom so everything looks so far away. I'll figure it out soon enough. Thanks man

Jeremy, That is freakin awesome!!!! Congratulations. Winning going away doesn't happen very often but when it does it really feels good.
LMAO he was so chill !! “Wrong fish” haha. I would’ve been so excited hahaha.
Same
So step 1, have a fish finder?
major throwback for me because this guy right here was the start of bass fishing for me, this was the first video i watched too. thanks flukemaster you got me to a different level in bass fishing. good luck to you in the future

Dam I catch 3 bass a week and I just started 2 months ago
Some very interesting info there. Would love to come across the pond and make a bass fishing video one day, shame we don't have bass over here in the UK.
+JL Outdoors Will have a look! :)
I watch all your videos over and over and gather something new each time. Keep them coming.
Thanks
"They could be sucking it up as bad you are." XD. A very honest Gene.
What I'm loving most about your videos are the fact of reality. And you don't scream like "oh oh" when a fish hit, like other YT fishermen.
I just spent 6 hours trying to catch a striped bass and you just caught one by accident lol
Fichdog LOL. There are times when I target them but I was focused on largemouth that day.
Flukemaster I just spent 4 for my first largemouth. Needless to say it was a failure.
7 years ago and this is one of my favorite videos of yours. They are all great but I took a lot from this one
I like your explanation, and to back it up with fish, very good.
This technique would work on most fish.
Thanks Andy
I just found your channel in the last week or so. As someone who's fished their entire life, you've been exceptionally helpful. Great video. Makes me want to get out and do some fishing, i mostly fish for pike, they put up a good fight. Greetings from Sweden.
I wish I had pike where I live. We have a bunch of bass, but I’d like to fish for pike once in a while. On the flip side, we get an awesome striped bass run up the coast in salt water every fall and spring.
i liked how you gave us positive information on when we dont catch fish and when someone else is, keep doing what you do!
I'm watching this on my phone while fishing in the middle of a lake lol
tkach21 LOL
I do that all the time.. I find my self scratching my head, then I pull out my phone and search for a video Gene has posted with similar fishing conditions I'm facing... lol

2:50 anyone else notice that bass tword the right of his baitcaster?
Hunter Adkins Good eye
I did Haha lol
Yes right away! So much for search baits.
Lol. Hell yea. I was yelling at my phone, "LOOK RIGHT NEXT TO YOU".
Where
Fight that urge. Such a great tip that is easier said than done. Everything looks so good when you are riding around the lake. Thanks Gene.
Great video, thanks for the information!
Few expert bass fisherman can articulate these skills in a way that you can. Fantastic video!
What does "points" mean? part of a water where land is sticking out?
Ya
Gene, you have probably some of the most informative videos in regards to fishing. Have learned something from each post.
Thanks Andrew. I'm glad I can help
"Oh that's the wrong type of fish, it's a striper" 😂he makes it look too easy
well, it's good to see even the pros get the dreaded nest, even if it was dismantled in 1.2 seconds without you ever stopping your lecture.. good job and great info. thanks man.
kevin scurlock I am a professional nest picker outer.
Those fish be like IM ON UA-cam
Didn't think I'd get a response. This is awesome, truly spreading the knowledge of bass fishing. Thank you.
adam castrillo You're welcome Adam. Thanks for asking.
I'm new to fishing, but isn't a fish finder sort of... lame? I mean technology is great and all, but isn't fishing about finding the spot the caveman way and getting gratification out of it that way?

+Richard Botellio But its putting technology into the equation. I really don't want to know for certain that there is fish in the specific area...
Then you don't have to, but you will miss out on a lot of fish you could be catching. Good luck.
You explained it well in your question ....why do anything the caveman way when we are in the 21st century. Helps find depth and navigate the lake
Gene, really appreciate your videos with the education emphasis. I am learning as much as I can and you have been helpful. Love the hat. Go Dawgs!!!

Thanks, I'm glad I can help get you through. This has been a tough winter.
Not all of us can afford a boat and a fish tracker
then your not that hard core into fishing, and even if you couldn't afford a nice bass boat, a 12 ft aluminum flat bottom you can pick up used for like 750-800 bucks
you dont need a boat and fish tracker to catch fish lmao.

One thing is a guarantee, bitching at somebody for having a boat isn't gonna improve your life at all.
I tried some of the techniques mentioned and they totally work. This video is very valuable!
4:02 my wife gave me the weirdest look for overhearing this...
imaboarder182 Yea, that will put your mind in the gutter.

looks like duckkette ghost and a 13 fishing bait casting reel
Nope. It's a Duckett Micro Magic and a Abu Garcia Revo.
*Casually catches a fish - “ha ha, wrong fish.” Love it 😂
Instructions weren't clear; I got my hand caught in the blender!
love that high camera angle! ESPECIALLY being able to see that point you're fishing and get a taste of the "big picture".
you accidentally caught a bass? dammit
Great video!! I like the way you stressed the fact this is your way of doing it.
Go Dawgs!
Concise and clear, makes sense to me. I am not a fan of fish finders, just old school I guess. I keep my numbers up when I'm in the yak. Thanks for the tutorial!!! fish on brother
how to find fish..uses fish finder
FINALLY I've learned a strategy on finding fish. The high camera mount also makes a really cool perspective
Thanks Chris
I loved your video it was very helpful! I just had a competition yesterday and used your knowledge to help me locate and find where the bass were hanging out. Thank you so much, you helped me and my team out alot!

Good work I like the tall camera at stern.
I've been fishing 30 years and I can get stubborn looking for fish by just hitting spots that look fishy or held fish in the past. I enjoy this type of content.
Andrew Jones I know what you're saying. I wasted most of the day today fishing history.
So happy for fishing season again!
Me tooo.
i used your method today, by finding alot of fish, following my lure... i caught alot of bass today. i used a power worm texas rigged and was slamming them left and right.. thank you for your tips

Thank you for making this video it really helped!

gallito caza Thanks Gallito
Thanks for the advice and positive notes. I have to learn to resist what seams good spots because I could spend hours and just be a waste of time..
Years of fishing and I still get excited when I catch one. He just nonchalantly threw back the striped bass like it was seaweed, haha!
Very informative and friendly for new fishermen! Thanks for making this video!
Thanks
Your channel is amazing. Your videos are extremely informative and you make it look so easy as you explain it!! Thank you so much for the videos!
Thanks Daniel
You can see some fish in the background while you're explaining what type of fish you found, GREAT video keep it up! :D
Another good and helpful video Gene...thanks for all you do.
Thanks Jimmy
great video - gotta love being out on the water!
Awesome video! Very instructional! Just what I was needing. Love the new camera angle!
Thanks
I like the new eye in the sky camera view at 9:35
Me to. It was was pretty cool so long as I don't rock the boat too much.
Great video and a ton of really good info here! A lot of what you say translates really well to what we do up in the Chesapeake Bay for stripers. Thanks for posting!
Exactly. Everything a wild critter does is dictated by it's food and reproduction.
Thanks for the tips, nice quality cam I wish every body on UA-cam had a good cam
Tony V It's just a GoPro
Great video Gene! I've been paying more attention to my electronics lately looking for baitfish and this really does work
your a beast man u make it seem so effortless
Great video I will have to try this method out next time I am out on the lake. Need to see more videos like this.
Another great video. Love your camera setup and the content.
Thanks Will
Awesome video!! Thanks for great info. Went fishing yesterday, ready to go back again and try the new method out!!!
Thanks
Great video Gene. Informative as always.
Thanks
I Being Learning a Lot From your Videos Man ! ... Thanks a Tons !!
I'm glad I can help
Great method for us kayak anglers and all anglers alike. We dont always have the ability to beat the banks and fly back and forth to different parts of the lake. "You gotta find the fish to catch the fish".
Thanks
Solid video man! Good place for people to start looking for them!
CodyKelleyFishing Thanks Cody
In all honesty I thought you were crazy about the hook position with the crank bait until I saw your results with the crawdad! Thanks for the video I'm new to bass, fished darn near everything else but bass seems to be my struggle lol.
Good Luck!
Keep at it man.
My wife was watching with me, " awww I like Genes new camera view"! She doesn't even fish and loves watching your videos :-)
ROFL!!! That's awesome.
That new high camera is so sick!!! Nice vid loved it
Thanks Trevor
I just click on genes videos when there is a big fish in the thumbnail. And I just love watching him catch so many. Like if u agree and like watching him fish.
I wish I could would have thought to get my camera out last weekend. Caught a nice 5 pounder thanks to a thing or two I learned from your videos. Subscribed! :)

Check out my Live Hangout about bank fishing. It covers a lot of this. The rod and reels that I use are Duckett Micro Magics $160 and Abu Garcia Revos ($130 - $200)
thank you so much
You always have awesome videos ive learned alot from you thanks gene keep cranking out the vids
Thanks Kurt
Thanks for the tips gene, hopefully I can put this to use in my tournaments this weekend
Good luck Jeremy.
Great video, I like that birds eye view with the GoPro.
Thanks Joshua
You mean "fish eye"
I love watching your videos and they by far have the most information, the one thing I would recommend is have one go pro facing you and one facing where you cast. I love the idea Jeff. I've been trying to figure out how to do it with a GoPro. The problem is that a GoPro can't zoom so everything looks so far away. I'll figure it out soon enough. Thanks man
Great! Amazing videos again!
