That's amazing, I love it! Had the opportunity to buy one of these cabs a couple years ago when they were on clearance at Walmart for (literally) one dollar, but I just didn't have the space for it... I have since wished I made that purchase because I keep thinking about how to achieve that original arcade effect. My idea was to recess the monitor like you did, but use a transluscent film on top of the interior plexi for those planetary graphics. Easier said than done though, as I don't know where you could get something like that custom printed!
Nicely done! Now, you just need some Space Invaders related toys (UFOs or spaceships) to mount inside the shadow box. Or, a wrap-around starfield. By the way, 50% two way mirrors can be had from any glass supply shop, if you ever decide to upgrade to the full on reflection method. Thanks for sharing this. :)
Wow I literally just did the recessed monitor mod on my cab. My original plan was to install a piece of mirrored plexiglass at a 45 degree angle like the OG but the form factor of the G1 cab was not possible so I recessed the monitor and made the front bezel tilted 90 degrees vertical. You took it a step further with the shadowbox graphic and lights. Just contacted the Etsy seller to see if I could get the graphic to finish the mod. Oh and tilting the bezel created a 1 1/2” gap between the control deck and bezel so I have to have a new control deck custom cut.
Extremely cool! I was thinking of how I could recreate the arcade effect with a 2-way mirror. Do you know if it's possible to flip the Arcade 1up's image to a backwards "mirror" effect? Then the lcd screen could be mounted below, and the image reflected onto the 2-way mirror. I believe that's how the arcade was. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Good point. Maybe there's a hidden service menu for this pcb? Otherwise, would need to put in an rpi or Android box running retropie or batocera, or a minipc. Bonus with a pi or Pc mod is mame or other emulators will put the original background graphic behind the playfield, dimmed and semi transparent, may be adjustable. Then all you need to do is this recess mod, no need for the bezel graphics, nor the bottom planet.
Beautiful! Looks so good, I’m tempted to buy a Spade Invaders just so I can attempt this, haha.
Badass bro!! Well done

Ok this is awesome. If I had that cab I would try doing the same mod

I love it.... Great mod to Wave 1 cab... You gave it extra life...
A++ Great project and great video. Thats a labor of love . Thats what its all about.
If the SI cab had been done like this I probably would have bought one..
Very cool. Well done, sir.
Awesome mod👾
Beautiful job
Nice and crazy mod indeed.
Level it up.
Use a fresnel lens with a smaller lcd to fit screen horizontal in the cab facing up, with 2 way mirror and backdrop art like original

That said, still be a cool project to replicate the mirror and uv blacklight background graphics like the original
Its sad that 1up did not coded a replica game of the original or at least used the one on the space invaders compilation game from 1994.
