People are entitled to their political view, and to express concern about 'He Who Shall Not be Named". Millions share that concern, whilst other millions take a very different view. My point about Springsteen being a disappointment comes from two opinions that I have: (1) I think celebrity endorsements of political parties are a worthless distraction. These people are not economists, scientists, foreign affairs experts, sociologists, etc...they are entertainers. Their voting preferences are not grounded in anything suggesting a superior understanding of the challenges facing governing as compared to the ordinary voter, and far less than the experts (who also don't agree with each other).
Bruce cares? Of course he cares, just like many on both sides of the political divide, but his art is what makes the listener think, to share his empathy, not him saying "vote for this guy/gal". There are most certainly celebrity endorsements for both sides (here in the UK too), but all they seem to do is tarnish the reputations of the artists, and take the attention away from their art, often reminding the public of the celebrity's wealth and privilege (and we all know about Bruce's working class credentials, don't we?)
Secondly (2), I find protest songwriters, even partisan ones, well worthy of respect, because they are unambiguous about their political preferences, and usually started out that way ("You pays your money, and you takes your choice"). Someone like Bruce, after years of being a wonderful entertainer, with a legacy that's assured, 'ambushed' a section of his fanbase by making explicit his support for, in his case, the Democrats (like others have endorsed the GOP), and making his GOP-sympathetic fans uncomfortable. Those fans on the political Right share his empathy, and his sense of fair-play, otherwise they'd never have persisted with their fandom over so many years. To potentially alienate a section of his fanbase in the hubristic belief of being able to persuade others to his party preference was (and always will be) unnecessary. By all means, fight for your cause(s), but don't become a soon-to-be-discarded tool for a political party.
I don't want my comments in the video to wind people up enough for them to declare support or detestation for Trump. I'm not interested, as I go elsewhere for expert political analysis.

Here is part 2 of my comment. Welcome to the Pleasuredome is great! I am fascinated that you picked Sting. I think we can all learn tantric practices! Interesting answers. I have thus far steered clear of politics on YT, and I will keep that going 🙂

    That’s a great mix of albums .
I have the Wizzard Christmas song on a compilation , but I haven’t followed up on any of their other music .
I will try to get my hands on that compilation that you showed .
Ditto with that GO album .
    Thanks for the recommendations !

David, great conclusion to the tag. Love Roy Wood, very unappreciated on this side though. Those singles are completely unknown here. Love Bruce’s music, but we agree on his political stance. Sting?. Ouch! 😂😂 Cheers mate.

Frankie! I love it still but only have my old CD copy. My copy of Nursery Cryme is an original on Charisma. I got it in a small collection a coworker gave me a few years ago. Nice upgrade from my CD copy. Your Sting response to the artist reincarnation question was hilarious. Ironically, he’s popped up a few times in entries to my push to a trillion contest. All in response to the question “Name a solo artist everyone seems to love but you can’t stand” 😂 Your honest description of the guy made me actually want to play a Sting record. Tantric superpowers. 😂 The Stomu Yomashta record is a wonderful listen. I really love it. Perfect summation of the vinyl community. ✌️

Fully agree with the Frankie album - all the 12 inches are essential too!
Totally disagree with you on the Boss though - can’t sit on the fence with the Anti Christ in the running !
And we all know I’m your favourite!❤️

Thanks David, Sir John Betjeman made four albums of him reading his own poetry over a gentle classical music background, all released on the Charisma label.

So, Springsteen's stance against the orange bad hair don't has done it for ypu. Well, a lot of people our and Springsteen's age are worried about men like that nasty one. We think he will create bad situations in an already shakey world. I think Springsteen does the right thing. He is worried.

Of course he's worried. Some of us have been worried for years. These are troubling times, and no party, nor leader, has a monopoly on wisdom, or solutions, or even good intentions. In a binary voting system, like the one in The States, neither choice is close to being a great one. Many hold their nose and vote for the least-worst option. This time around the collective 'wisdom of the crowd' voted for a change. Who am I to judge?

@davidatkinson-Music-and-More well, I am in the same boat but you must pardon me but I do judge. I think the majority made a bad choice and I feel I have the right as a citizen of the world, a citizen of a US ally.

Alas, "He Who Shall Not Be Named" has destroyed families, decency and soon, democracy. In 2019, I left the country after 37 years because I sensed a real darkness (not unlike the one on the edge of town) descending upon the U.S. You now have a clearly mentally ill, whirling blancmange of rage running to most powerful country in the world because a lot of people who knew better didn't care. At least Bruce cared.

@@davidatkinson-Music-and-More I get your point - but very, very bad things are about to happen and he did his best - even as a humble entertainer - to stop it.

    Are British right wingers rare?

    • @davidatkinson-Music-and-More
      @davidatkinson-Music-and-More  4 дні тому

Fair question. Ordinarily, a silent minority (occasionally a majority), but it's mightily unfashionable. In the last UK election, many right-wingers stayed at home and didn't vote. Most political experts are now saying that, next time, they will come out. We'll see.
