He reminds me of Jim Morrison in some strange way but he is much much more full of light and brightness! Intelligent and interesting lyrics what a wonderful discovery even if I am a bit late.
Back in the 80`s they did a version with just acoustic guitar and accordian, on some late night pop show.....which is STILL the best version I`ve heard of this beautiful song. Alas I no longer have my VHS recording from back then and have failed to find it on UA-cam......if anyone out there knows of it.......!
Divine Comedy are such an underrated band that it makes me fell such a lucky guy for being able to appreciate their amazing quality and talent. May we keep getting such music from them! ;)
absolutely perfect, from the depth of the darkest oceans, to the brilliance of a star filled sky, this song is spectacular, poetry, musically and space entwined, which makes the emotions feel even more so vibrant, very evocative - I love it x
Ciertamente. Sr Neil. eres muy bueno . Nos Haces sentir cosas que pasaban muchos años antes de que hubieramos nacido. Is not it Romantic? From Galicia - brotherhood Ireland - - The cold green fields sometimes, You´re always in our mids - the magic - the nights ... so you are called: Te Divine Comedy--- green fields and dark nights- the poetry- we´re glad so the philarmonic orchesta of my city-la coruña----Life´s a Dream - . but a Dark is the night
@carpeinfinitum Can i recommend Brett Anderson and of course the sublime Morrissey ? Not such smooth voices but great lyrics and vocal performances.Yes Scott is a god amongst men you are right - awesome !!!!! Also great are The Lilac Time. Stephen Duffy is a genius and much overlooked - great pop songs.
@RavenDayexMilhas hey cheked a while ago (music lover and hooked on wiki... sorry) I believe its an extract from Fellini's "Dolce Vita"... Hope it helps
@carpeinfinitum You should try Owen Pallett aka Final Fantasy. Or if you're looking for majestic voice and stunning arrangements dig stuff by Scott Walker.
This is my impression of Neil... "Yeah". You can tell he is caught up in a characterization of himself. It is an unfortunate drive of a lot of musicians. Every time he says "yeah" I am reminded of the fact that he is not as inspired a musician as he might be. In other words he is half assed.
TheSkepticon I'm a huge admirer of his work but I sort of agree with you. He always seems to be in character in some way, but aren't we all, artists or not? I don't mind it, and I enjoy his albums and songs more as storytelling and escapism than anything else. Often ironic, clever, overworked, sometimes silly, but occasionally incredibly beautiful/moving when the irony is not present (e.g. Tonight We Fly and Sunrise). If we're looking for raw, sensitive, soul-baring a la Nick Drake then Neil's music doesn't do that (at least not directly, but its sometimes, perhaps (?!) there once the various layers and filters are peeled away...! Although maybe it isn't...?!). That's part of why I've remained interested in his music for 20 odd years - he's not an open book and there's always something new to discover in revisiting it every few years :-)

I'd give one of my fingers if they came to my country.
Well, not really. But I wish and I'd be there if they came.

will never forget true artists

I love this song since the first time I heard it, deep lyrics, wonderful music.
Masterpiece.
Absolutely amazing, a work of art indeed. I should have millions of view.
a wonderful ensemble performance; bravo!
He's been doing this stuff for years - 'bout time for a knighthood eh?
Oh my god, I didn't think he was going to recite that at the end! That was AMAZING. Thank you!
Divine Comedy are such an underrated band that it makes me fell such a lucky guy for being able to appreciate their amazing quality and talent. May we keep getting such music from them! ;)
a very memorable song that has stood the test of time well!
Hannon is a class act. No question.

A haunting and beautiful song love it
Zero dislikes. Zero haters. The way it should be.
what a beautiful song and a certainty of chance
What a voice Mr. Hannon has.
The album this song was off was class - Fin De Siecle I think? I had it years ago, whole thing was enjoyable from start to finish.
Good album but not the best.
"Casanova" is better.
"A short album about love" is my favourite.
Neil you are a genius & I love you! xx
one of Irelands finest is Mr Hannon :)
Love it!
The epic moment 3' 29''
La dolce vitta.
thank you

@MarTenSaa Thanks for your suggestions! Didn't enjoy Pallett's songs much but Scott Walker is awesome, thanks! :)

Oops I just wrote that too😂
I really like this style!! What other bands/musicians should I listen to?
Frank sinatra
Stephen Duffy/The Lilac Time
Well said :D
Maybe the ones who haven't seen it yet don't deserve to view it...
@carpeinfinitum I would listen to Duke Special - he is excellent and a fairly similar style to this :)
@MarTenSaa you are right

how about another great irish singer/songwriter - declan o' rourke. try the tracks 'galileo' and 'a little something' for starters
Wheres the poem from? at the end?
Someone replied it is from Fellini's film, La Dolce Vita and it checks out allright.
They only worked with strings in their last album, but in my opinion you should try Pulp
@davesni hes northern irish?! so must be eligable for a knighthood?
Old school Scott Walker though! Don`t deprive them of "Delta dawn"!
Recent Scott Walker (since 2000) you will NOT enjoy if you like this... Try RICHARD HAWLEY and TINDERSTICKS and maybe THE BLUE NILE.

TheSkepticon You look like you're caught up with a puffed up idea of your own self importance. No-one cares what you think you ninny.
You got that from a single word?

Yeah is used as emphasis of the statement
