Hey Studio killers, it's sad to see the comment section like this but I hope you're not disencouraged. I think almost nobody looked at the line in the video description that said this is for the pilot. Maybe a comment of yours at the start of the comment section could clear that up? Because people are looking at this song from an odd perspective, as a song that's supposed to accompany a scene I think it has a lot of great potential! But it's being judged as a song that should be on the radio, with the aim of standing on its own and being entertaining. That's not what it was made for, so it makes sense that people feel it didn't succeed at that- it never meant to.
+edit+ I now see that you did convey that it was for the pilot from the start, with the title and community post. I wonder why so many people, including me, still went in expecting something different. That's interesting, but I wish I had a better answer for you.

If I heard this anywhere else I wouldn't believe this was a Studio Killers song. It sounds rather generic. You guys had such a unique sound, even without Teemu's vocals you could still tell when an SK song came on.
I really hope this isn't the new direction you're taking things in the future.

Remember this is all part of the pilot now. They're made for the context of their roles which is part of the intended experience.

Some comments state that this song is part of the show you're planning, and I think everyone should know! Because songs that are intended for a scene tend to work a loooot better in context, and now we don't have that.
Well, we kinda do because it's stated in the description. But as usual people click play on the video and went to the comment section. Maybe a short flash cardbat the start of the video that also states that it's for a character in the pilot would help?
Because I think in a scene a song shouldn't take all the attention, the lyrics tend to be more repetitive and its main goal is to convey the mood instead of entertain. This song really conveys a mood, but receiving it without context just makes it down your mood and I think that's where all the criticism is from. It has a very particular sound, which doesn't match the general sound that Studio killers has established so far. This is probably on purpose, and I don't love it but I'd like to know what character it's going to belong to. That anticipation makes me interested in this song even though I don't really like it. Maybe we'll love it in the show.
I feel like if they need to give that much context to a song, there's no reason they should be promoting it as the next big single

This song isn't bad. However it sounds like every other mass-produced generic pop song out there. If this is the sound you wanna make in the future then all the power to you! But I personally prefer your previous music with the iconic synth sounds, acoustic drums, melodic piano and unique vocal performance. It's what made Studio Killers stand out which doesn't exist in this song.

@@Glaring_Queens Not necessarily. "Schoolyard Dance Off" still has their style too it, even though it's a different type of song without the usual vocals. Just because this isn't as unique doesn't mean it's due to greed. It could've been to accommodate the singer and her style. Sadly though it doesn't take away from the fact that the end result became incredibly generic.

In this album, their style changed from a unique and iconic sound to something more mainstream akin to what music labels mass-produce on a regular basis. However that doesn't mean that the songs are badly produced - far from it! Their production value is high and their skills are very evident. You can hear some instruments being used in familiar ways so their personal touch is still very much there. (I'm not talking out of my ass btw; I have an education in music- and media production.) That being said, I could've probably worded my previous comment better. It was mostly written out of confusion because the change was not only drastic but in my opinion questionable considering their branding. My comment read to me as "I'm confused why you decided to switch to a mainstream sound when your brand is so unique because of how you cleverly utilize instruments and vocals" and it's a shame I didn't manage to phrase that better. But I could rewrite this comment a thousand times and someone would still find a way to read too much into it or take it the wrong way because everyone has on their own experiences and triggers. If I write that I like pancakes at least 1 person will assume I hate waffles. It's a silly thing really but text-based communication is flawed like that. And to clarify: I do agree with you that while it's not a direct insult, even a simple "I preferred your old sound" could still hurt someone's feelings. But I never meant it as an insult. You however decided to actively seek out discourse on a chill UA-cam song and spend your time taking out your anger on another person because they seemingly didn't agree with your opinion or you felt like they said something inappropriate. You decided to lash out at another person through condescending insults and blow things out of proportion over a problem that never existed in the first place. I don't think ill of you or anything, I just wanted to alert you to your own behavior. Had it been someone else, you could've really hurt them based on a misunderstanding such as this. i'm just going to reiterate what i said in a response, about constructive criticism. where is cherry? is cherry no longer going to be featured in any of your songs? is there something going on that has changed this band so dramatically that they need to distance themselves from the original masterpieces that you released? why were so many songs removed, that people seemed to love? and now, the replacements we get look like low-budget, rushed animations, and it sounds like the "pilot" that you're going to be releasing is mainly going to comprise of fan-made videos of them dance battling each other. what the hell is going on here? seriously, this ISN'T hate. this is confusion from fans who were expecting something entirely different from what they're being given. it's fine if you want to take a different direction, but WHY keep the studio killers name and hype us up for things that have nothing to do with the original studio killers AT ALL? this is really sad and disappointing.
I feel this will make or break Studio Killers if Teemu is not Cherry's singing voice. I'm a die-hard fan, but I'm worried that this is too much of a divergence of the music style and trying too hard to appeal to the current generation of music where old SK doesn't really fit. I wait the release of 404 soon, and hope that it is as radical as previous SK as well as opening opportunities for them in the direction they are going. It's going to be hard to top the early songs and absolute "in your face" social commentary of Jenny, Ode, and Eros.
I think they've cheapened out and it's starting to bite them back. They sold off Birthday to some awful rapper, they're capitalizing as hard as possible on the Jenny tik tok trend, and now they're just releasing song after song that are clearly designed for tiktok

Guys, I love your music but this is super boring and is far inferior compared to all the music you've released before. It sounds super generic and forgettable and personally does not awake any emotion in me. I was super excited to hear what you guys would be releasing so long after your last song (except for the new version of "Jenny") and the truth it that...it is quite disappointing.

But in all seriousness, I agree. This just feels... Plain? Droning. It doesn't at all feel like old Studio Killers. It feels more like some trying-to-chart melancholy-pop single from the early to mid 2010s, taking cues from Marina and Lana. I miss that brash and bold, harsher house pop sound they started with.

I don't mind bands evolving; I enjoy it when they evolve in a progressive way. Gorillaz is one of my favorite bands, and their evolution has pleased me. They're constantly changing, but it always sounds like them, even though it's always so different. Bands changing isn't a bad thing, necessarily. Stagnation is bad, and I certainly wouldn't want a decade of more Ode To The Bouncer (as much as I love it), but I don't want something that feels so different and stripped back and... Almost generic sounding as their newer few songs feel.
I dunno how to put my feelings into words. But evolution and change isn't bad. It's the way that it changes that can be bad or good. It's all subjective anyway, just a bummer with Studio Killers atm.

And yes, studio killers is shifting its gears a little bit, but please don’t forget to at least credit the other people behind this band. I’m sure cherry will come back soon, but don’t forget all the people also in this band that put forth a lot of effort. I love you studio killers. Please take any negative comments as a form of criticism and nothing more. It’s good to take tips but don’t let it make y’all upset. I admire every single person who contributes to this band. You are all talented no matter what music you release and none of us fans will forget that. Your songs are such a beautiful and nostalgic thing to me💕
I'm just gonna drop my comment here since there seems to be more hate in this release than the uncensored version: please wait to see the finished product before judging. Come on guys, I know it's not the same as what we all loved from the past, but they're not just creating music they're now working on telling a story through animation with music to accompany it.
