I was lucky enough to perform with Stevie at the Lennox Point Hotel in Northern NSW Australia. My Mate Big Al from Mullumbimby brought him along after a long hiatus. Stevie asked me if I knew any Easybeats tunes, I told him I did, but I couldn't sing them in the same key as him, so I only knew them in lower keys, Stevie laughed and said, "me neither, let's do it" I had the most wonderful night of my life and I miss him soooo very much. I can't wait to catch up with him again in the next big gig.
lucky enough to see him live several times when he sang at opera house at the concert of the decade i felt was one of the best performances of anybody ever thanks for listening pleasure you gave everyone buggsie tas.
I did rehab with him in 1979. He was a counsellor back then. He had a huge ego but it was tempered by his gentleness and unbridled charisma. He was without doubt one of the most charismatic men I ever met ; he had more charm than a rat with a gold tooth. Apart from that he was an absolute legend in the music industry. Fronting the Easy Beats with tons of energy a powerful voice and that wonderful cheeky smile. Sadly smack stripped him of everything. Such a sad life in the end.😔
Beautifully John, Stevie was Rock Royalty back in the day and who knows how far he would have gone if that Drug Monkey hadn’t jumped on his back. I’m glad to say that I followed him being a teenager back then. He was a ball of energy and it rubbed off on we his fan’s.RIP STEVIE, you are missed. 🙏🏻
I read that when he checked himself in to the Chelmsford private hospital where he went for help with his drug addiction. That the doctors there gave him a cocktail of drugs to make him sleep for two weeks. That put him in a coma were his brain was not able to get any air which caused him to suffer from brain damage. Then he was given electronic shock treatment's that fried his brain that also caused him to have brain damage. He was never the same after that. He also checked himself in to the westmont rehabilitation center for help with his drug addiction. That was no help either. He had to jump out of a window to get away from one of them. He just spiraled out of control after that. 😢😢😢😢😢😢🎉🎉🎉🎉
Look up the documentary about his life story, called the Stevie wright story so much to say. By Scott McRae. It will tell you about what happened to him. Stevie talked about his life and what happened to him. Other people who knew him talked about it also. It was a very sad and hard time in his life.❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Mighty fine words my friend and NO DOUBT came from the heart but let us not forget his claim: HE WAS NOTHING WITHOUT EVIE....That is the hallmark of where the tears need to be shed.
i was at Little Stevies funeral and this song bought a tear to my eye ,,, squeak did an amazing tribute to this song ,, we all miss stevie so much but it was a great celebration of his life so many Aussie musos turned out to pay their respects and to say goodbye to a little aussie legend ,, R.I.P Little Stevie +++
I wish I could have met him. I have watched everything I can find on both the easybeats and on stevie wright they are a great performers . there is a great hole in the music would since they're passing away. Rip in piece stevie and george.
Well that was quite a journey. Someone old as me maybe sees sad and triumphant similarities with Johnny O'Keefe. He took music to Australia Stevie took "our" music to the world and absolutely smashed it. Biggest names in music took things from his show.. Johnny- , Gladesville Stevie that rotten damn Chelmsford but he fought back. Got beaten a few times but never defeated. Thanks for the warm up boys but I'm up here to keep the show alive. Look out for the drumming and speaker towers. I'm ready to rock.💥
What a fitting tribute. RIP Stevie....If John Paul Young re titled it to Stevie, OMG the tears would have been immense. Well done John Paul Young, Stevie would be very proud.and thank you for sharing.
What a magnificent send off.... thank you Stevie for all the music.. Thank you John for such a beautiful send off.... one can only IMAGINE how difficult that must have been for you to perform.
This is the first time I seen this and it’s a great tribute to the great man and just listening to this it brings a tear to a lost life taken way to early
I remember meeting him once down the Cabbage Patch hotel in Woollongong back in the 80s when working with a band called Passion. One of the most nicest blokes I'd ever met. I'll keep that memory eternally.
Absolutely! l adored him as a teenager. He gave his all to his fans. I'm bawling my eyes out, all over again, because this is the 1st time l have seen any vision of his funeral. So beautiful to know he was given such a perfectly regal farewell. This is really magnificient
I was there in Sydney down to visit family when this happened and managed to make it there. Honestly the performance was even more beautiful in real life. Rest In Peace, Stevie.
I 'm no sucker for heartbreakers but when I think of Steve Wright, I cannot help but think of that woman he sang about. I fell in love with that song long before I met my Evie and proceeded to fall in love. AND I'm not the only one; There is a mountain of men out there, who had an EVIE in their life. The song latterly foretold my future but I was to stupid to realize it...All in all, I have a sneaky suspicion the Record labels used him as a tax write-off because he certainly did not get the exposure or air-play he so Wrightfully deserved. At lest not where I came from. However, needless to say; any solid Rocker could say he was one of the best. My liking him is because I lived through most of the songs he wrote and can't say that about many artists.... HARD ROAD that I travel was all me...Going back and forth across the country, radio tuned to rock and that lady beside me.....Thanks for the memories Stevie....If his addiction to the H-drug is how he died, chances are high he just could not let go of EVIE. He out right confessed to not being able to live without her.
You did a great job singing Evie.I will miss Stevie Wright Poor old Stevie, such a sad life but he was so loved. God bless Stevie Wright. Wonderful. Thanks for posting for those who couldn't be there.
What a fantastic funeral for Stevie - he would have been so thrilled. JPY you did a wonderful job singing Evie with the choir. Thank you to Stevie's son Nick for making it a public funeral. Thanks to St. Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney for having it there. Thanks also to Foxtel's A-PAC channel for broadcasting it live and repeating it so many times.
Poor old Stevie, such a sad life but he was so loved. Beautiful song, sung so well by JPY.The choir was just lovely. RIP Stevie, what a talent! Thank you for sharing - to me this was the 2nd most poignant moment of the service. Vale Stephen.

So beautiful to know he was given such a perfectly regal farewell. This is really magnificent. Thank you JP Young for being such a special part of it.
Beautiful. RIP Stevie. Beautiful song, sung so well by JPY.The choir was just lovely. RIP Stevie, what a talent! Beautiful song, sung so well by JPY.The choir was just lovely. RIP Stevie, what a talent!
danced at chelsea to the eastbeats and olivier newton john back in the 60.s. Stevie and Olivia both dead now but I remember how great they where and still are. John
I just discovered The EasyBeats this week believe it or not after just thinking The Seekers were the only big Austrailian band and I find out Stevie who Iam watching in videos on You Tube was so vibrant and special ended up this way.Makes me extremely sad.
I’ve known the easybeats all my life as well as A/CDC and a few other Aussie bands and the classic hit Friday on my mind has stuck with me and I agree he needed more help but he got there eventually R.I.P
If this is the second one, was the first. I didn't get to see any of his funeral. I live in the USA and we didn't get any thing from the easybeats or Stevie wright. No music no books no photo to us. I'm upset about that. We have missed out on all of it. N😢😢😢😢😢😢. Very sad and beautiful service. Rest In Peace Stevie. We love you and miss you😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Such a beautiful job, Love the song was a huge Stevie fan have been a fan of John's since I first heard him back in the 70's and I like Warren as well....
BIG thankyou for doing this :) AND a good job too and R.I.P Stevie & the so call australian media let us down now if it was a kardashian the media would be all over it and it live very sad day ...
I never heard of Stevie Wright until 10 months before he died. I spent the whole year learning about him. I met my boyfriend in January 2015 and he mentioned the Easy Beats in passing and I said I never heard of them so I did some research and I thought SW was something special. I think he died the day before Lemmy died too.
I’m Scottish and remember the Easybeats “Friday on my Mind” was a big hit here mid 60’s - then nothing. Two weeks ago, I came across YT video about George Young and Harry Vanda and the other Easybeats which led me to the story of the Alberts and on to Ac/Dc. Along the way watching so many videos of this massive talent called Stevie Wright who should have been a superstar. If only he’d got real help and rehab not quackery that almost killed him. I understand he had Diabetes too as he said in one of his interviews so that would have been accelerated by the drugs. What’s astonishing is that Stevie’s incredible performance of Evie at the Opera House was never shown anywhere else! WHY NOT?
When will everyone realize that people who hung together in their youth invariably go their own ways after marriage ,kids, grand kids etc. We all change Kristine. I mean when I die there will be no one from my High School in attendance and that's ok with me, it is was it is. Don't be bitter about Stevie & the Young brothers, enjoy the huge legacy they left us lucky little listeners.
I don't know the reasons why they didn't appear, but as someone who did go to the service, I can say that the place was crawling with photographers, and there were several camera crews in attendance. I saw Gordon "Snowy" Fleet being interviewed with several cameras pointed at him. If Vanda and Young had put in an appearance, I think there would have been a stampede.
Hi I'm Dave I looked after Stevie fay for 2 amazing years rest in peace little brother I will never forget you Stevie played Evie electric guitar in Batemans Bay three of my amazing friends I will never forget this it will go down in history God bless

I read his death wasn't drug related somewhere ,fact
Or not so sad either way 😓🙏

Great and touching performance by JPY to honour this tragic legend of Aussie music. Should have changed Evie to Stevie.
What a magnificent send off....
thank you Stevie for all the music..
Thank you John for such a beautiful send off....
one can only IMAGINE how difficult that must have been for you to perform.
Look at JPY’s hands clenched -incredibly nervous and at the end he literally sprinted away. I’m guessing that was to shed tears.
This is the first time I seen this and it’s a great tribute to the great man and just listening to this it brings a tear to a lost life taken way to early
A beautiful moving tribute, thanks JPY and Warren Morgan..

I draw much of my musical influence on Stevie and the Youngs. Shamefully overlooked body of talent WASTED on North America.

I think there should have been way more older Australian musicians at Stevies funeral. He was an Australian legend.
What a front man 👍
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I'm so sick of the dust in this house.
Disgusted that George Young and Harry Vanda didn't bother to attend Stevie's funeral. Well done JPY
+Kristine Warne And the rest of the Youngs should have been there out of respect.
