  • In this video we get into some detail about what "chairs and flairs" means, some history about the iconic Ferrari Dino, and of course go for a test drive.This car has some unique features, plus the restoration of this "chairs and flares" Ferrari Dino was featured in a seven-page article in FORZA Magazine #90 in December of 2008,
    Both the 246 GT coupes and the later 246 GTS spyders were the first evolution of Ferrari’s higher-volume, smaller-engine exotics, meant to appeal to a larger market than the flagship V-12s, and were the first of the long line of V6 and V8 Ferraris that have evolved into Ferraris current massive commercial success. Named after Enzo Ferrari’s son, Alfredino, who died in 1956 of muscular dystrophy at the age of 24, the Dino was the first of the “baby” Ferraris - smaller, lighter and more nimble than the larger 12-cylinder street Ferraris. Its transverse mid-engine was a Ferrari first in a street car, and the four-cam V6 shows its direct racing heritage from the V6 powered 196 SP, 206 SP, 246 SP and the V6 powered F2 Ferraris. The sleek and sensuous Pininfarina designed and Scaglietti built 246 stands as one of the most beautiful and exotic street model Ferraris ever built, epitomizing the golden age of the Enzo-era Ferraris.

    I remember the moment I was hit by the car thunderbolt, I was 10 years old in 1976, at a car show, where I first laid eyes on a red 246 GTS. For me, all roads lead to Dino. I’ve had a 308, Mondial, MR2, 914, Cayman S, GT4 and now a GT4RS. All mid engined and (relatively) lightweight, the blueprint set by the Dino. Thanks for the video, your knowledge and obvious passion for these cars makes me feel like you’re the kind of dealer I like to work with.

    It’s great to see you and your dad contributing via UA-cam. I have read a lot of his articles but now I can put a face and shop to the name. Keep up the great work. The parked boxer in the video is gorgeous. Thanks!

    As a young man, I worked for ALGAR Ferrari in PA. Early 70's. Mechanic and engine rebuilds. I had a 246 Dino I restored. The Dino was one of the best balanced cars..throttle steering was great fun. Thanks for the memory.

    I had a chance to buy a "chairs and flairs" Dino in Atlanta back in 1979 for $14K but made the mistake of passing on it. I went in with my brother 50/50 on a brand new 1979 308 GTB instead. Oh how I wish I could turn back time to that day!

    And no Dino should have a Ferrari logo anywhere on it, thank you for upholding that!

    One thing the young lady doesn't mention is that Dinos were NEVER badged Ferrari (Owners put them on!) The other thing is on the engine block is a nice big FIAT casting!! Also the roof leaks (and squeaks! as the chassis flexes!) and as you can see if this video the damn 1/4 light window handles (stuck on the glass!) fall off when you go over a bump!!

    • @trevorpomroy550
      @trevorpomroy550 4 роки тому +1

      Heh. Leaks and stuff falling off are just part of the whole Italian driving experience. "What's behind me is not important." Perhaps the most achingly beautiful car body ever designed though. That makes it worth it.

    I reckon your business must be in Los Angeles area - we MUST get Petrolicous to do a film with you as always great to get knowlegeable and professional classic lady owners (I will pitch it to Nadia Fugazza and her team - they are in Culver City). Cheers, Johnny

      @@FerrarisOnline Sorry for not replying sooner - Yeah I will send some details to Nadia - their office in Culver City is shut down at the moment but later this year I am sure it could be sorted. They love trying to have more ladies featured (e.g. watch 'GTS Viola' and 'Speed of Sunshine' on youtube). I can't be the chase driver though as I live in England so a long way away. Keep doing your nicely paced, professional and informative approach - it makes a nice change from presenters simply 'raving' about cars.

    Sadly from 2030 on all the combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in EU :-( In Germany the Green party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one single state operated gas station per city. :-(
