He debated with several buddhist, jain , charvak, Karma Yogis and other Indian philosophers and defeated them all and proved the superiority of Vedic Advaitha siddantha. If he had a disease and achieved all this he becomes even more special.

When Adi Sankaracharya starting from Kaladi in South had travelled more than 800 plus years back in time when no transport worth any long travel existed in India,what stopped the earlier rulers from undertaking such pilgrimage, if they are true rulers of Hindu majority India, including Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Sankaracharya had made two round trips of India and re-established the supremacy of Vedas as sacred text, only through debates.
