Being a highland snare drummer, yes that is traditional grip. Teaching for many years as well, I've taught whatever felt comfortable to the kids. A backwards traditional grip for lefties or match grip or any other variety of it and try myself to play that style teaching that student.
I'm not a musician (although I come from a family of musicians and so have a great appreciation). I watched more of the Drumeo videos with Stewart Copeland and I think in one of them, he said his drumming style is a modified version of traditional grip (he uses different fingers to hold the stick than is customary). I find his personality and commentary entertaining (and all of the digs at Sting that some people find arrogant, to me comes across as good-natured riffing). Anyway, if you haven't already seen it, I recommend checking out a beautiful showcase of Stewart's talent from The Police reunion tour in 2008. The live version of 'Wrapped Around Your Finger' is gorgeous, and the camera is on Stewart and his percussion the entire time. Being 100% honest. I appreciate Copeland as a musician, but I don't like what he did there. IMO it was internally kind of coherent, but not matching the song well. Just an opinion.
As a non-drummer I usually enjoy these for the personality/skill of the drummer, for me Stewart just came across as arrogant so clicked off. I couldn't watch him on Drumeo either...
Really cool take, I would txt Drumeo to have any Vlad Ulasevich (Jinjer) song, but if you would get to chose a song what is your pick @coversandcommentary
Drummer for 55 years. Traditional grip. You are right.
Didn't want to go on a rant, but I was 99% sure, but one comment made me question it. 😅

Please look at Ashton Irwin hears mega deth for the first time. He kills it
Agree to disagree… I thought he absolutely butchered it.

Hey bro just wanna say I’ve really enjoyed seeing your reactions to Stewart Copelands drumeo vids recently
For the record - the Portnoy one is amazing, I'd love to see your reaction and breakdown to that.
@@ericness9881 I would love to see a reaction of Portnoy’s Burn It To The Ground and Ashton Irwin’s version of hears for the first time Megadeth.
If you haven't yet, you should check out Zach Grooves hearing Architects for the first time. Really fun video.
love the reactions bro
If Chad Smith reminds us of Will Ferrell, Stwarart Copeland reminds me of Adam Savage from Myth Busters
Oh man, he went all in on it faster than Chad Smith did. Also, did I see El Estapario Siberiano in the Drumeo studio in the commercial between bits?
I think Stewart might got bored by playing Limp Bizkit

@@BipedalMale and now you know why Sting couldnt handle him either LMAO
