a court of frost and starlight is the worst book I read this year and one of the worst books I have ever read but the good part is that I put Sarah J Maas behind me and I can actually DNF her other series... For someone who has never DNFed anything, this is an amazing accomplishment...😉😉
My worst book this year was I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid. It was so hyped and everybody talked about it and the twist, so I just expected more than what I got. I really didn't like the story or the writing style, but maybe it's just because I'm not cultured enough to truly appreciate it ;)
I'm 11 and am currently reading #murdertrending I am on chapter 10 and think it's very interesting so far. I am not very far in but so far I would have to disagree, but you may be right. Idk.
Christie's publishers should never have published Passenger to Frankfurt. You have to assume it was simply greed on their part - they must have known how bad it was and also that with the name Christie on it, it would sell. I would say the same about Postern of Fate, the last book she wrote. None of the Tommy and Tuppence books are great, but this is abysmal. She had lost the ability to hold the threads of her plots in her mind.
Oh dear, I am currently trying to listen to all of Christie’s books and have so far finished 34 of them. Many of them I read more than 30 years ago but I have no recollection of ‘Passenger to Frankfurt’ or ‘Postern of Fate’. So far the ones I have liked the least are ‘The Mystery of the Blue Train’ and ‘At Bertram’s Hotel’ but it looks like there might be a couple coming up that I will like even less.
Yeah, it really is a low point in her oeuvre. I mean, I still like a bad Christie more than many other books I"ve read, but this one was really cringe worthy
To add a positive to this list video, I do not read YA anymore cause it. ain't. like. it. used. to. be. But your recommendations in your BEST OF lists vids has opened me to try a few YA this year.
I love ‘The Martian’ by Andy Weir so I had high hopes for ‘Artemis’ but I was very disappointed and I also gave up on it. The main protagonist, Jaz, was terribly annoying. I don’t think Weir is good at writing female characters which did not matter that much in ‘The Martian’ but it ruined ‘Artemis’.
The second ACOTAR was the worst English-language book I've read this year. All the other terrible books I've read this year are Polish, so there's no danger of your accidentally picking them up :)
In the Name of the Family by Sarah Dunant was the worst book I've read this year. I didn't get along very well with Dunant's writing style. I also didn't think it was possible to write a dull book about the Borgias, but she did it. If it weren't for the audiobook, I would've DNFed.
I Am Radar was horrible. I was bored and infuriated screaming “What’s Supposed to happen here?! Get on with it!” It threw my whole reading off for the year. My cat dumped her water bowl on it and ruined it. I gleefully threw it away.
I know this is old, but Plum Sykes isn't a nom de plume, she's like Oxford, UK's version of Paris Hilton. One of them anyway. This was just a cash grab off her name while anyone was still interested.
I am one of those people who will passionately dispute with you about #murdertrending. No hate, but it's my 2nd favorite book ever after harry potter and the deathly Hallows. Sorry, but it's very good in my opinion. It seemed like a darker version of hunger games, in a way. Sorry, just my opinion, but Mama raised me to respect others other's opinion.
I agree! It's a favorite series of mine, which is why I'm sad the last few haven't been as good IMO. That said, I'll still keep an eye out for it as the new ones come out to see if it's something that might work for me
I totally agree with murdertrending i loved the concept but in certain near death experiences the characters were way to comedic and it was just a weird tone
I totally see that! It’s what I call a “hang out” book where it’s mostly about spending time with your fav characters. If you love the characters, you’ll enjoy the book

Congratulations!
Welcome to the world of DNFing! It's an empowering skill when rightly deployed :)

You're plenty cultured! But sadly not every reader is for every book... and sometimes things are just overhyped ;)

Same it's so good so far (ch.8 currently)
I finished the book and I have to strongly disagree with her
It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read

I actually really liked #murdertrending. I read it fairly fast and it kept me interested. So I disagree with you opinion, but to each their own.
Glad you enjoyed it more than I!
I can’t imagine anything much worse than an inert romance.
This is a lot of fun and super informative as well. Your analysis is incisive.
Thank you!! I suffer so others don't have to ;)

Oh that's great! Yeah, I think particularly in YA fantasy, there's a lot of interesting work being done these days
Same here. Because of you I am reading books in every genre like YA.

Agreed! Well said
Can you please do a review of and then there were none its ONE OF MY ALL TIME favourites
I've actually done one! It was a detour in my Project Poirot last year, so it should be somewhere in that playlist ;)
bookslikewhoa yay thanks I will go and hunt it down immediately !
The worst book I read this year was The Natural Way of Things by Charlotte Wood. The way Women were portrayed in that book drove me bonkers!
Yikes!! Definitely a turn off
I got about 500 pages into The Passage and then it took me maybe 2-3 weeks to finish the rest of it :D
LOL it was your Nam this year :D
@@bookslikewhoa There have been a few of them!
The second ACOTAR was the worst English-language book I've read this year. All the other terrible books I've read this year are Polish, so there's no danger of your accidentally picking them up :)
Lol, you don't know my TBR like that! ;)
@@bookslikewhoa hmm... I'm pretty sure you don't speak Polish? Correct me if I'm wrong :)
Haha, well... if you want to get technical about it...:)

Oh wow, yeah, that is impressive... the Borgias have to be one of the most crazysauce families in history :D
I Am Radar was horrible. I was bored and infuriated screaming “What’s Supposed to happen here?! Get on with it!” It threw my whole reading off for the year. My cat dumped her water bowl on it and ruined it. I gleefully threw it away.
Lol your cat is one of the harshest critics I’ve ever seen 😂🐱

I love the Lyndsay Sands vampire series. Granted I haven't read those two yet, but I think her lore is unique and the humor is great.
I agree! It's a favorite series of mine, which is why I'm sad the last few haven't been as good IMO. That said, I'll still keep an eye out for it as the new ones come out to see if it's something that might work for me
I totally agree with murdertrending i loved the concept but in certain near death experiences the characters were way to comedic and it was just a weird tone
honestly #murdertrending sounds like the White Bear episode of Black Mirror, but worse.
It's a really interesting concept & I liked a lot of the individual elements of the book, but the writing just kept it from coming together :/
It was pretty decent IMO. I couldn’t really feel for Dee, but eh.
Im the odd one who actually loved ACOFAS. I didn't really care for the fact it had no plot, I just loved the characters 🤣
I totally see that! It’s what I call a “hang out” book where it’s mostly about spending time with your fav characters. If you love the characters, you’ll enjoy the book
I honestly don't think I've read a bad book all year....
Yay, lucky you!
I agree with Artemis. So disappointed! I had high expectations and didn't it pass chapter 2.
Thank God I'm not the only one who thinks The Passage sucks.
Haha yeah, you are definitely not alone :)
I tried to read The Passage twice and just could not do it. A lot of people love it but I agree it was boring and not good at all. I DNFd it too
Yeah, it was struggle bus. I mean, if it had been shorter, it would have been less of a problem, but just too drawn out
haven't read any of those and I don't think I want to 😅
Haha you won't hear me trying to change your mind :)
