Terri you always give such great advice and reasoning, for beginners and non-beginners alike, going back to basics like 'don't sweat the invisible mistakes' is very helpful.
Watching for about the third time, such a bubbly and positive voice to listen to onna fantastic tutorial! Thank you!
Lovely video! Thanks for putting the time into this. Can’t wait to paint my rangers!!!
Amazing video my question is are you going to paint the other miniatures? I would love to see you paint the other miniatures like the megazord and Knasty Knight or Pudgy Pig or Rita Repulsa
good job! I loved the original power rangers growing up.
I really love your videos, and this game will be my first attempt at actually paining things myself, mainly because of your videos, so I hope you make more Ranger videos in the near future, it would help a lot.
muchisimas gracias!!! asi podre pintar todas las figururas!!! espero con ansias!!! // many thanks!!! so I can paint all the figurines !!! I look forward to it!
Awesome work! This was really nostalgic for me! Thanks for sharing this!

I'm going to love painting these guys, but the wait is so long! D:
I just picked this game up last week. I'm excited to paint all the miniatures inside
Dude! They look so good!!!
I'm really happy you posted this, since even though I've painted a good number of GW minis, I will often fall into the trap of quitting when I get to the "this is gonna look awful no matter what just power through it" stage. And I know enough to take this to most of the other rangers included in the full Kickstarter package.
The ones that kinda confound me are the White Ranger and the Hyperforce team. How would you paint the White Ranger in a way that works with the other rangers you've done? I was thinking maybe prime grey, add a black wash, then paint white over that, leaving crevices shaded in. And the Hyperforce team, where there's more black on the costume than their primary colors, really is confounding.
I have the game on order and I was thinking about painting the miniatures. however, I am physically disabled and my fine motor control is particularly bad I was wondering if gundum markers would be a good substitute for paint as I find them easier to work with.
What’s the best way to give the effect of the suits and helmets looking like different material? If I wanted the helmets to have more of a shine to them, would that be a glaze or something?
Hey Teri, question about shading my Rangers... I want to try to keep a nice bright colour on them like the comic book but want to shade them juuuuust enough so they don't look flat. If I use a shade like nuln oil and thin/lighten it up with a medium like Lahmian Medium for example would that give me the subtle shading I hope for without darkening my colour too much? I'm more worried about my brighter coloured Rangers like Yellow and Pink getting too dark. Thanks!
That’s flipping awesome
Your video is brilliant and thank you for putting it simply for a beginner painter. Would you be able to put it down as a written pdf format. So I can read through it and go step by step that way.
Can you do a video on painting the megazord figure?
If I have a clear primer that allows me to add paint for a colored base coat, would you recommend still mixing it with white or could I use some of the color that the ranger will be?
Hey Teri! Happy new year! What paint sets are you using now besides Citadel? What is your opinion of Vallejo paints? Thanks!
So did you prime Zack with black primer, or just not prime him and do the dry brush? I feel like I would to the former, but it seems like it'd be harder to get the lighter colors to show up then.
RW:sup Teri !😁 love the tutorial girl!,very well specific and descriptive.😁😉👍
Amazing work bat I’m Novus about the Hyperforce and I’m a 1sts timer
Hey Teri! These look incredible. Do you have any tips on how to get some silver into the tiny grooves of the Mastodon trunk?
Think I'll use the airbrush if thinning out to milk consistency
Like I mentioned on Twitter, I'm no stranger to painting miniatures, but this may help for when I get my sets in.
Very darn good. If you check my Twitter, you can see the work I can do. I think the Power Rangers miniatures will be a true test of my abilities.
Thanks! Be sure to shoot me a pic on Twitter when you get them to paint!
Hey Teri! Thanks for this so much! I'm interested in why you chose not to do any wash on the white portions. I see what you did gives them a stark "Like-new" look, but what if we wanted a bit more of a realistic edge to the minis? What order of operations would you recommend if I wanted to do a wash on everything, not just the base color?
- Alan
Hey Alan!
My big challenge is to figure out how to approach these minis - as ultra-realistic models, hypershaded (like in the comics) or some other way.
My emotional centre is with the original TV show, and the thing is, the white spandex of the suits reflects light and shadow in a way that is utterly unintuitive, and is rather a subtle effect. Because it's so shiny, shadows tend to be extremely subtle.
If you wanted to do a wash, I'd honestly do a very light grey wash on the mini after priming white. For the black ranger, I'd do the grey wash only on the white after the white is put on.
Hopefully that helps!
How do you finish off your mini's.. do you use a spray clear coat or brush?
Cool
Loved the video!:) Will you also be painting Bulk and Skull’s Purple and Orange Ranger figures once they’re released in the new expansion pack?
Thats super morphinominal !
I noticed you didn't use the handle to hold the model like you did with Pumpkin Rapper, any reason in particular why or just didn't feel it for this one? Will that handle hold all of the models in it?
The bases are all the same. In all honesty, it's because I only have one handle and I was working on these minis at the same time and changing the base handle out on each of them was more trouble than just holding them by the base for the most part.
Can you please recommend some paints for the white and green rangers?
I've watched this video enough times that I feel like I can do this...! But I would have to do them one at a time, or maybe one step at a time on a small batch.
My question: is there any reason against priming ALL the figures at once, and then painting as I can? Some of them would likely be waiting for, literally, months to be painted. Will the primer still be effective if I prime in August 2019 but don't get around to a particular figure until August 2020? Or should I just prime as I go?
Thank you so much for your videos teaching us how to paint 😁
I think it would depend on where and how you store the minis. If you can keep them in a cool, dry place then the primer should be fine. The biggest problem would be dust, since if a primed mini collected dust, it would be sealed by any further layers of paint you add.
@@musicfighter282 The idea would be to keep them stored unless I'm playing the game. Good point about the dust. Would another rinse get rid of any potential collected dust without damaging the primer?
Water by itself won't do anything to the paint, AFAIK, but I'd be cautious anyway and just do a once-over with a wet brush instead of, say, rinsing it under the faucet.
Do I need some protection when I do the primer? So of my friend tell me don't so urge to make primer without any mask.
So I want some tips from a pro like u. Btw, I use citadel corex white.
I'm priming outside and the particles aren't especially fine, so I don't. I'd use a respirator if I were doing this all day, every day as a job but YMMV.
I want to try Speedpaints on these, see how different it'll be.
Would drybushing the weapons with a silver color have been better to bring out some of their details?
1) This comment makes me happy because it means that people are looking for ways to make this process their own!
2) I was working with pre-production versions - they had some 3d print lines and I honestly don't know how much detail there will be on the production minis for the faint details on the weapons and I didn't want to tell people to drybrush if it would significantly increase the chance they'd be stuck in "fixing paint mistakes" hell. (This tutorial was focused on keeping things as simple as possible)
All that said, you could ABSOLUTELY drybrush the weapons earlier in the process if you're comfortable doing that. Were I to drybrush the weapons, I'd do it before the base colours went on the miniature, and depending on the silver, you may wish to block out the areas you're drybrushing with a darker grey first since drybrushing silver on white sometimes doesn't give the best results.
@@thatterigirl Haha! I'm glad I could help. I was asking because I got a tutorial/walkthrough from a guy who runs a Warhammer store and he mentioned drybushing weapons on figures can add a lot of detail.
I'm definitely trying to learn as much as I can about mini painting before I get the game. I'm super stoked to try painting all of the figures.
@@adamholt5395 totally! I used to work at a GW many years ago.
Drybrushing CAN bring out details in minis, but it's really dependant on the sculpts. If you look at a Space Marine bolter and compare it to Zach's axe, you'll notice more fancy details.
The imagery we have for Rangers derived from TV is different than John Blanche-inspired art, and the practical difference translates to differences in sculpts on the model.
I'd definitely feel more comfortable recommending drybrushing in the silver if the effort provided a proportional result.
yes nice power rangers and like paint job but have good holday over the that and see as post new stuff
Could you possibly do a video painting either the Tommy Oliver pack, or the Ranger Ally pack, with bright shiny metallic paints?
My question: if the base color is the same color as the color the figurines start out as, why is it necessary to prime and then add a base color if the base color is the same as the figure's original color?
Good question! It's actually to make sure the paint matches AND to ensure the paint adheres. Primer gives your paint a better surface to adhere to (it holds better than model paint alone) which is important if you're handling the minis as you'd expect to do when playing with them.
It also ensures you can match up the base paint color if you need to do touch ups, which is common with miniature painting.
@@thatterigirl I got a couple of my figures done so far they don't look as perfect as yours but I am pleased with them
@@PrinceTrexus That's wonderful to hear! Thanks for sharing that! Do shoot me a photo on social media if you care to. I'd love to see it!
@@thatterigirl btw idk if u did but I also used a gloss finish acrylic sealant to seal in the paint and it also makes the paint shine.
Can dry brushing be an alternative to airbrushing?
Depending on what you're looking to do, but yes!
Would you want me to make a video showing how you can get an airbrushed effect? I can whipa short probably.
@@thatterigirl sure
That's super awesome you are super talented but count me out that's way too much work. Lol
We need power coin bases.
