    Great video, bookkeepers in Australia do more than AP / AR including closing the books, journal entries etc. I hold a bachelors of economics in Colombia and did an diploma & advanced diploma of accounting in Australia. Been doing bookkeping for small busineses for 5-6 years. Looking to get more of an accountant role, so decided to start the CPA. Hoping is the right pathway.

    Thanks for the video Bill! I've been contemplating whether to go the school route like getting my online degree with WGU and do audit / tax, or go the bookkeeping route. I enjoy accounting tho 👍🏼

    I think it's very difficult to get a job as a bookkeeper with only a high school degree. Even university graduates with Business degrees are not finding jobs. I think people should get realistic expectations and realize most of the jobs ask for previous job experience. But where you get the first experience is the funny part.

      If you only have HS diploma you will have to accept minimum wage in an entry level bookkeeping role. To get that, you'll need to show some initiative by learning online (videos/courses) to that you can draft a good resume that shows you've already taken these self-learning steps. So essentially you'll work your way from $15/hr to $50/hr over the course of 5 years.

      Speaking as a NY'er. When I first began working as a BK, it was literally the scenario he described in the video. I was hired for a clerical position but in small businesses, you wear many hats, but I had no degree. I am now a CMA candidate and MBA working in finance. So it's possible to find work as a BK with no degree. The market values the BK knowledge more than degrees, especially if you've had BK positions. If you're starting off, and want to work in BK, I would try to think about past gigs where you did SOME KIND of BK type of work and highlight those tasks.

    Hey man! Your videos are incredibly helpful. I'm about to start a 5-year career as a public accountant in Argentina. I'm 28 now, so sometimes I feel like I'm a bit late to enter this field, but I've developed a strong interest in it over the past year. Right now, I'm looking to switch jobs as soon as possible to something related to accounting or bookkeeping. I was thinking that maybe the best move for me would be to find a part-time job as a bookkeeper while attending university. What do you think? Thanks again for explaining the differences so clearly!

    Thanks for the Video. I am a qualified Accounting Technician in the UK with 5 years of corporate work experience. I work as an AP and AR for corporates. I would like to move to US as a bookkeeper. Do you think it's worth it? If so how to find these jobs? Thanks.

      Hi, it's hard to answer this on limited info. But I know in the UK, many accountants are happy to use the free health care to set up their own shop as contractors and make higher rates per hour (contractor/company rate vs. employee)

    To become a well-paid controller you need a bachelor degree (4) then master degree (2), then a cpa (2) and some ERP certification (1). And we are taking about 9 years. Almost as long as it takes for a doctor to study. A lot of ppl don’t wanna waste their time and prefer to work in IT where a barrier is lower. That’s why about 75% of CPA are past or closer to the retirement age.

      @@MegaTimPim OK funny, because in Germany "CPA" is a Title Like a Medical doctor, means you need to do exams and actually do auditing. Once you left public auditing you loose the Title..therefore in Germany there is not a single controller with a CPA, rather a Ex-CPA

      I’ll reframe this: I did 4 year college BA Accounting, cost me $28k (vs. $250k medical school). Then I started working in audit. I made progressively higher income from $55k to $200k by year 9/10. The cpa and erp experience came while I worked. Now my second 10 years should be $200k - $350k. I’d say it’s a good path.

    I want to know whether doing CPA worth it or not . I just started studying CPA and one article said that accountants and auditors will be automated by AI . Should I Quit or continue studying ? Please answer

    • @TheFinancialController
      @TheFinancialController  2 дні тому +2

      AI is going to disrupt ALL professions (Law, Acctg, Engineering, etc). So is the answer to just give up and sit on the sidelines? Rather, pursue the profession of your choice and learn how to use AI to make you better at it. It's the advice I am giving my teenage kids.

      Currently interning at PwC, and the use of AI has its limits. AI can only choose a right or wrong response, and completely removing human skepticism will not happen. Just make sure to embrace AI and go for the cpa. I will start studying in April and begin the testing process by September.
