My buddies and I have been shooting this over last summer lots of fun needless to say I won’t be going to your class anytime soon still got some practice to do
Good Day John. Happy New Year. Hope you had a splendid festive season and good luck for the new year. Wanted to ask.. I downloaded the dot torture from the link, how far should i stand from the target? Thanks
John, I'm starting in on this to gain entry into your instructor program, and I'm not quite understanding the 9&10 totally. Does the first shot have to slidelock, or just rack the slide between mags?
It should be a slide lock reload, but if it's a speed reload (draw, 1 shot on 9, drop magazine, insert new magazine, run the slide, 1 shot on 10) that's fine too. :)
The download looks different then the targets you were shooting. My annual qualification for work is coming up. This would be great practice. But I did shoot a 98% with a 10mm. Where can I get that target at?
Part of going to look at the target is to read your hits and mark misses. I’m not sure what your concern is about being down range when we are on a private range alone. Is there something I’m missing?
@@ASPextra I'm not one to turn down a challenge. I'll post Sunday evening with my best. Keep in mind nowhere in my post did I say it was easy. 7 yards will be challenging!
@@alexduke5402 I'll run one at 7 yards next range day but I doubt I'd be excited to post it up for the world to see. I've only ever made a 45 on the DT once. Isn't it called torture for a reason? I think the problem might be that the dang thing seems to shoot high and right. ;)
@@matthewellisor5835 I haven't ran this particular drill before but I really enjoy challenging myself with small targets. I don't run a suped up pistol either. Out of the box gen5 19. I thoroughly enjoy shooting and blessed to live on the family farm so I can shoot till I'm poor if I wanted! Killed a few ground hogs with my gen3 that is challenging lol
You can run a clean DT at 7? You just failed at 3 🤔 I'm gonna hit it with my Iron sighted P30L V1 and a gopro on the weekend, but I doubt it will get seen when I post it.
@@ASPextra Because for a trained RO or instructor the correct phrasing is "cease fire, range is cold" and then " All clear, range is hot". And you say it every time you go down range(towards the targets). Doesn't matter how the targets are set up or what drill your running. Secondly after saying cease fire, range is cold, you do not move until everyone has their firearms holstered AND have backed off the firing line. And you went "down range" 4 times. and only 1 of those times said anything. And you were halfway to the target before you finished saying "down range" I understand it was only a few steps. But that doesn't matter. You dont cut corners with firearm or range safety. So based on those actions that's a red flag for someone who hasn't trained enough or practiced enough safety in an open pit. Now that's just my opinion. But remember Your channel is all about firearms, including how to be safe. And you teach me new things everyday off your channel. This time let a viewer teach you., I my self am not an RO or instructor. I do have several certs and train outside and inside open pit. Although my wife is certified RO through NRA, USPSA and USSCA as she is a competition shooter. So I have the same info and training she does.. I hope that explains it. No hard feelings i hope.
You're no idiot, John. I'm at a 37/50 at 5 yards. This drill can be very humbling.
My buddies and I have been shooting this over last summer lots of fun needless to say I won’t be going to your class anytime soon still got some practice to do
Is that from 3 yards? I ask because I usually run from 5 yards.
Hey John, after the failure to lock back, was that an anticipation flinch I saw? I'd like to think I'm not the only one that does that!
Little post-ignition push is all.

3 yards.
I need to practice this just for the sake of mastering the fundamentals
That's what DT is all about. :)
I put a dot with a marker in the middle of each ring. It helps me to aim small, miss small.
I may have missed it, but for consideration for the instructor certification program, what distance should we shoot the dot torture drill from?
3 yards.
@@ASPextra THX!

Thank you
Great training tool. Thanks for sharing!

Where can I get that target at?
Link in description. It's the same target.
@@ASPextra Thanks for the clarification. Rewatched it. I see it now.
Good marksmanship guys.
Dave seems to handle the recoil better when shooting single handed than you John. Is he gripping it differently?
I am not trying to control recoil particularly well in these shots, since there is no time component.
What targets are those? Not the dot torture but the ones under. I can’t find them any where.

I love Dot Torture..... and I hate Dot Torture. 😜👍
It covers pretty much all the "basic" skills.
Thanks for sharing and keep yourselves safe!

We jokingly call it Aww dammit. :)
@@ASPextra I am definitely stealing that nickname.
How many yards bro ? Did I miss it ?
3.
I miss living in AZ, I’d be in man. Good training, hope you get some good people.
Most of the cohort is at distance wherever you are!
Active Self Protection Extra ooooohhh 👀 ok ok ok ok!
Man, just watching that made me anxious!!! LOL! Awesome shooting!
Haha thanks.
Really good and I love it but it just looks funny watching you guys take your time haha but great way to train
What’s this certification for?
aspinstructors.com has all the info.
Are the ears on your hat or your ear protection? 🤣

I realize this was years ago. I suggest having another copy of the target in hand or at your feet so you don’t have to go down range.

@@ASPextra I am quite lazy.
It’s three steps to the target man! :)
What is the second shooting test ? Assume you’ll put out a video on it ? Thanks for all you do. Peace.
Yep it'll post next week.
3 yards??
Yep.
didn't hear you specify distance. Looks like about 10ft
sorry I missed it at the very end
3 yards! :)
Damn make it challenging do it at 7 yards
I can run a clean DT at 7. That's not what this was about. Let's see yours.

Did you just say "wait a minute, down range"? If i heard that from an instructor on a range. It would throw up some red flags for me.
Why?

WTH, I think I see a wizard, the holes appear by magic 8:01-8:06 and i don't think that's the first touch of magic in this video
If you carry TDA do you want the video to be of the TDA dot torture?
That's acceptable. I don't really care either way. :)
