those whom speak broken English are usually the older generation who did not learn it in school. I'm 44 and my whole life (UK) English was a mandatory subject at school, but yeah I can imagine that was not the case 50+ yrs ago....
Also she's a tourist, she needs a (work)visa if she's non-EU citizen to work like nearly every other country in the world doesn't like tourists stealing jobs

It's hard for me to believe she actually travelled to this country. There is no footage with her in it that has anything Dutch in the background. For someone that has been here for 2 months and makes youtube videos, it is a little bit strange. Most of the footage seen, looks like stock footage gathered from the web. There are some dashboard cam views (which a visitor without a car is unlikely to have) and that view from the canal boat is contradictive with the hate she has for canals. You see views from summertime and then views from a snowy winter.. We do not get that much snow here. Rain would have been more likely :) If she stayed for 2 months.. i doubt she would have experienced winter AND summer (as seen in some shots).. Employees at the airport speak multiple languages, and if you happen to speak to one that doesn't speak yours they would probably have a colleague that does if you request this and can't find a secondary language that works for both. Dutch, English, German, French and probably Spanish are languages that "somebody" at the airport will be able to speak (If you request for that), It's an international airport after all and considered the entry point to Europe. What is more likely is that she (or someone else, because i just can't see this woman doing editing work) just made a hate video from material she found online. Disregard anything she has to say. And because this video is completely contradictive to what this country is in reality, her other videos should not be trusted either.
Anyway, thnx for the review. I subbed when i saw your last video and hope to see more. Appreciate it ! (edit- By the way, there is another channel with American expats called "Buncharted" these two have been exploring the country in depth. If you need information on anything, they would be an excellent recourse and i am sure that if you have any questions you could contact them to help you on your way regarding life here but it seems you've got everything under control !.)

Do they ride bicycles , because it is so expensive/high cost of living in the Netherlands? That is because the Netherlands is so expensive you wouldn't be unable to afford to buy a car ? In the US, everyone has a car , some at 16 years old, usually a used car . Unless you have rich parents and they buy you a brand new car . As for bikes , those are mostly for mountain biking or trail ridding, not daily transportation. 🤔

    • @Wall3Wapter
      @Wall3Wapter Місяць тому

@@Kim-J312 no, we ride bicycles because it safe and often very convenient to do. most shops etc are close by so we can walk or cycle there. most people here have a car aswell. cost of living is high, but not so high that we can't afford a car. think we have 1 of the highest car ownerships per capita of Europe. this lady is just complaining about everything because she came here as a badly prepared tourist expecting to be treated as a dutch citizen, and it didn't work out. she exaggerates everything.

3:49 I just had to pause here! I think this person is the penultimate "Ugly Tourist". and I haven't even watched four minutes. I'm British and lived in Belgium for four years, and we took a lot of visitors to the Netherlands. (This was in the late 70s). When I had moved to the States, my Irish Grandparents moved from England to Holland. The day after they moved in, a doctor stopped by to introduce himself as their new GP. I flew over and stayed for a week, and loved it.
I love the fact that so many people use bikes, that there are head shops that sell 'shrooms (I was sober, but that it was available, instead of pretending a War On Drugs would work impressed me) and the kindness of the people, along with great museums, fabulous houseboats and wonderful PT and services, made it a country I would be thrilled to visit again, or even move to.
I think this woman lacks the concept of foreign countries, and should probably only go to Spanish speaking countries going forward. Even so, it seems like she's just a joy killer, so maybe that won't work either! I found most Europeans speak English, or will find a way to communicate if they can't. I only speak French and some Spanish and Dutch, but I hardly expect others to speak my language in their own country! If they do, well I am very lucky and certainly wouldn't complain if their English is broken, if I haven't bothered to learn their mother tongue!
Yes, Europe is expensive and between the war in Ukraine and the inflation globally, to expect otherwise is dilly. Apparently in her research online, she didn't look at the cost projections that one can find before one visits. Ugh. I'll shut up now....Sorry, but this approach to other countries drives me round the bend! Happily, I know Jiles will be sharing how fantastic the Netherlands are. Cheers.

First off, love the reaction videos, definitely do more. This video you are reacting to comes across as super duper fake. The dubbed-over voice isn't a direct translation of the woman who it implies is talking. They have a couple 3-5 second clips of her [red/blue sweater lady] they just keep cycling through. There aren't any selfies or realistic descriptions of specific personal experiences. All the videos of the "Netherlands" are likely stock video clips or ripped off from somewhere else. The voice used is AI generated, pretty much the same one temu uses in their obnoxious commercials, and I'm fairly certain the script is as well (I train AI models, this is exactly the kind of random nonsense it would produce with the right prompt). There is actually a good chance it was completely created with AI, with the intention of sowing anger and unrest, and I feel you are giving it far more thought and attention than it deserves. That might be a good topic for another video.
The Netherlands looks beautiful, though. Now that I have learned of its existence on the internet, I shall have to plan a holiday there. I'm on a budget, but luckily the Netherlands is famous for its hostels and friendly people.

Having had to deal with the US legal system through work, having a friend there that lost nearly everything because he had the nerve to lose his job while sick (Health insurance was through his job) the chances of me ever wanting to live there are non-existent.

I'm watching the original in Spanish. the lady is Chilean, apparently. The English dub you're reacting to is not perfect but captures the essence of her entitlement. Sadly, some people will migrate without a plan and expect things to "work themselves out". Some employers in many countries are actually flexible about hiring people without the appropriate paperwork, but as we both know (I'm taking the long "student to skilled migrant" path in my late 30s, btw) this is not the case for the Netherlands and most of the EU (as far as I know).
"The worst country in Europe" to make it irregularly and improvise along the way. I got this sentiment from another Latin American on UA-cam who ranted about needing to have a postal address to get official communications, instead of squatting it with roommates indefinitely. That guy was definitely not as entitled as this lady, but his problems were mostly related to formality and an apparent obsession to live in Amsterdam, as though there aren't other cities in the country.

Notice how she makes many accusations (racism, being ripped off etc) but NEVER gives the examples of HOW they were racist or HOW tey ripped her off. This video has been "a thing" within the Dutch UA-cam viewing community for a while now and at first most of us thought she was just making a "troll video" but appearantly she is dead serious. She originated from Chile btw but lives in Spain and hardly knows any Englsih herself (unlike 90% of people over 15 in the Netherlands)
As someone that has both been homeless in the Netherlands AND has worked with them for decades... nothing what she said about "being homeless" is true. No the police does not "hunt you", you can "exist" just fine, homelessness is not aa crime, police will only arrest you if you ACTUALLY BREAK THE LAW. There are multiple projects in Amsterdam (and any other Dutch city) that do NOT care who you are or where you come from. Not even when you would be an illegal alien. They won't deny you help, they won't report you to the police for being illegal, all they do is feed you and give you shelter for the night. "a German girl" having issues in the Netherlands? As a EU citizen she actually has many rights INCLUDING that of being able to work in the Netherlands, if she is struggling she is doing something wrong and should travel the 90 minutes by train to go back to mama.

To everyone foreign who wants to travel to Amsterdam, do NOT book an hotel in Amsterdam, Find a small city outside Amsterdam with a train station nearby.
Trains are scheduled every 10 to 20 minutes, prices are a lot cheaper. Examples are Haarlem or Zaandam, find a hotel there nearby a trainstation.

I had to laugh because I don't even live there and am impressed by the people. I have been researching (specific) vintage items in England, Germany and the Netherlands. The place I contacted in the Netherlands was the only company to respond with a comprehensive answer and explained how the items are labeled and sold there. 2 companies in the UK didn't respond and the company in Germany responded but the language barrier made it a non sequitur. I think the Netherlands is internationally minded in general. The websites have choices for languages as well as translate into USD and other currencies. This woman sounds like she had some difficulties but really they were of her own making.

She most likely is from South America and probably from the southern hemisphere which is why she was surprised to see snow in February... I would be surprised too but for a different reason as snow is rare these days in the Netherlands. She was probably here in 2021, when indeed we did have quite some snow in February but as I said, it's getting rare. I will always advice people that if they want to visit the Netherlands, don't stay in a hotel in Amsterdam, but go to either Haarlem or Leiden, stay there and take a train to Amsterdam. Trust me: it will be cheaper.
Yes, we have canals. The Netherlands is one big river estuary and you are never far away from water of some sort. A small bit of research could have told her that... But that is her problem... the total lack of research.

I was born and raised in the Netherlands. I live in the south, which has a very different culture than Amsterdam. It's more Burgundian, less straightforward than in the north. I like both and appreciate them. This woman portrays the whole of the Netherlands equally, while there are significant differences. Only with major events like the World Cup, are we all the same. We show this by dressing in orange. Personally, I find Dutch people very approachable. We don't have the culture where you can drop in anytime and join for a meal, but we are very open to outsiders.

I'm really interested in part 2!
She talks about them speaking "broken English," but I can't imagine hers is any better as that's clearly not her voice in the dubbing. If her English were good, she would have over-dubbed her own voice.
Most people don't know what they don't know. Some people put in the work to figure out what they don't know, and either adjust for it or work around it. Other people figure they know everything they need to and jump in, wholly unprepared. She's clearly in the latter category. Frankly, it looks like what's really wrong with Amsterdam is that it's not wherever she came from. My suggestion to her would be to stay where she is, unless she wants to do some research first.

I don’t know why people go to other countries expecting things to be the same as their native country.
I moved to the UK just under 12yrs ago and I’m still getting used to things but I don’t go around saying ‘Why don’t they speak my English? Why are their roads like this? Why this, why that?’ Of course I miss some things from home like food diversity, road signs that make sense, having 4 seasons, but that’s just how it is here. 1 season, 9/10 raining and cold 95% of the time. What it does have though, is free healthcare, like back home, absolutely stunning views when I go on hikes or nature walks, some really weird expressions (that I’m still getting used to) that are really funny. It’ll never be like home was but it’s a new start. That’s the point. 2 months is not enough to judge an entire country/city and if you don’t go there with an open mind and an idea of the culture, why go?

She was not prepared for moving across the world, she didn’t research what she needed in terms of permits, visa etc. Thinking she can move here without any of that, is so strange. There are plenty of jobs in this country, for those with legal work permits. And if Amsterdam is too expensive, which I can totally understand as it is an expensive and touristy place. But then anyone serious about moving here will look into many other cities and towns to live in where prices are more reasonable.

First the airport, the roads, public transportation, sewer system, trash collection, and indirectly police services, traffic management, water management, drinking water, food, government and should she have needed healthcare in an emergency, she would have been helped.
Haven’t even mentioned things like public safety checks on restaurants and shops she visited. Indirectly she used most of the services a country has to offer. Perhaps even the free ferries in Amsterdam or what about walking on one of the 1900 bridges in Amsterdam alone?

02:57 I live in the nl and I am a person of color. Though there is racism in the nl it is not that common to be overtly discriminated against. And the majority of Dutch are not racist people. But to be fair you would not notice it being white so she could very well have experienced it.

    • @xXTheoLinuxXx

I'm white and not a racist. I grew up in a neighbourhood with quite some people from Indonesia and Suriname, and their fathers and mother were my uncles and aunts (we use to say this to be polite). Quite a happy place, and when you're saying something wrong of them because of their colour, well that wasn't a smart move. But later on at late nineties and early zero's there was a neighbourhood were they put asylmseekers from Somalia in and they were aggresive to white people who were walking in 'their' neighbourhood. They throw things like glass to them, so things got a bit different. I'm living not that far from Ter Apel, and I'm pretty sure that you have heared about that place before, and that doesn't make the situation any better. Compared to other places in the world there wasn't a lot of racism here to start with, but in the last decades it is growing, Why? Politics! They should kick out the people who can't behave themselves.
