Nice 3NT bid on B5, I just bid the no play 4S. B6 though I read West for Qx of hearts, went up with the ace and got out for down 1 which was worth 89%!
I also bid 3nt rather than 4s made +1. Ion board 1 I decided to x 3h as I felt p would leave it in he bid 4c worked out well albeit on optimal defense 3hx can go for 300 need to get 2 club tricks 1st then spade spade ruff afterwards.
On board 5, you bid 3NT to play (nice bid btw). Would 3NT also be to play if you played with an expert partner? If so, how would you distinguish it from serious 3NT?
My understanding is that Serious 3NT (or non-Serious 3NT) apply when you already in a game force and have a known 4-4 or better fit. Here the known fit was 5-3. North can still pull 3NT with shape.
@@YCLP 1. All of this is subject to partnership agreement. There is no "single way" to play this convention. 2. On second thought, it can probably be on in a GF auction like 1M-2X;any-#M. 3. Because of the possibility of 3NT being the only viable game in this auction, I would be reluctant to agree to allow S3NT/NS3NT here. Responder still may cue bid with a good hand.

Very nice round, Pete.
Brilliant bid on #5.
Thank you.

On board six @12:52 , 1NT - 2C - 2D - 2S why is 2S invitational here? I thought this showed (54) in the majors and a weak hand?
That's how I like to play it but others play differently.
Board 6 I got to 3NT but West led a spade for me, so I managed to just go down 1 for 89%.
As a beginner, how do I know if you playing Standard bridge, 5 card majors.?
You can ask your opponents. I am playing 2/1 with 5 card majors which is extremely close to standard with 5 card majors

@@jyutzler Here there was neither a GF nor a 4-4 fit. Is serious 3NT never on in a 5-3 fit? Or can it still be on after a GF has been set?

Very clear! Thanks for all the help!
In general I don't like jumps to 3NT to be serious 3NT.
