We had a set of Childcraft encyclopedias like these but they were red and black when I was little (60s-70s). My daughter then had a set from the 80s. I love them all. I still have a few of hers the rest were lost in a roof leakage. I love your video's very much, very inspiring! Thanks for sharing your talents with us!
😱!!!! It's huge 😂 no one else would do this massive book as much justice and as much love as you though! It's looking beautiful and I can't wait to see how it evolves as you use it 😍❤
Thanks for doing a process video of your journal. I find them much more interesting than just a flip through. You have an incredible ephemera in your journals-I love them all!
I love huge chunky journals with all sorts of different paper. So happy to see that you have made one. The inside cover is beautiful, my favorite part. I will definitely enjoy watching you work on this. Can't wait to see more. Have a wonderful day/night!
Ahhh. Child craft by World Book Encyclopedia. I read them as a child, 60 yrs ago, bought a set for my kids when we got the World Book set in 1982, the only way you could buy them was as an add on to the adult set. My grandkids are now using them. I don't know if they are being made anymore since with the arrival of the internet it is no longer imperative for a family to own a set of encyclopedias, which we were led to believe was vital when I was growing up. Loving your videos, thanks for sharing your talent with us.
These bring back so many awesome memories. I had a complete set as a little girl. I could sit and read them for hours. I’m def. going to be looking for a set at yard sales and estate sales, GW, etc.
Love this little journal lol it speaks to me with its eclectic beauty, i now know what im going to do with all my children's books and annuals from the 50s 60 and 70's thank you for your inspiration
Hooray Tracey! I am so glad you've gained some inspiration! Thank you for you love and kindness. Good luck on your creations. Keep me posted on your progress. xoxo- gina
Just found your channel today! Your journal is amazing!!! I'm trying to make myself a junk journal....slow going but I'm having fun! You are a inspiration! tfs!!
I love the giant book you made! I've been planning on making a journal to use as a collage journal, and now that project has been moved to the top of my list! I'll put a video of it on my channel when it's done! Thanks for sharing.
The 'little journal' is fantastic! I think I might call it the 'big ass journal' though! But hey that's me! Four inches of paper is mammoth! You're off to a great start with it and look forward to seeing more! xx
Gina, you are just so amazing and full of ideas!! I have some of those Childcraft books and I love them!! I use them for my kits. The illustrations are so beautiful and need to be loved in a different context. Your little-big journal is pure FUN!! I was hoping you'd slow down the flip through so I could savor every page : )))) They are so fascinating --- all the different textures and pieces sewn together and IMAGES (my fave). Really fun video, beautiful journal - love love love!!!! LOVE!!! xRenee
Hello My Love, thank you so much. Yes, I worried that the flip-through was too fast. I am always afraid of boring my viewers if it is too slow. I really appreciate your feedback and I'll use it in future flip-throughs. I went a little overboard on the textures and extras for this journal. You can never have too much! Have a creative and happy week, my friend. xoxo- gina
Hi Cindy, I didn't do a tutorial on this journal. Johanna Clough does and amazing job of teaching how to put together and bind books. You should check out her channel. ua-cam.com/video/dLx7kO1dvQg/v-deo.html xoxo- gina
THAT is one BIG little book! Lol! I think I like this one best of all the ones I have seen you do. Lots of room. I think you will have a ton of fun with this one. I luv it! TFS.
You have so inspired me, but I have a question? Using what looks to be quite a variation of multi media products, how do the pages from books hold up? I have a cloth bound book with heavy pages but I am not sure they will hold up without rippling.
I just love ❤️ your little book! I need to get thicker books to alter, mine get so chunky that I have to stop journaling in them. Great ideas thanks for sharing Gina 😊
Love these big journals! I have already watched your video twice it's so full of inspiration. Cant wait for the next one. I feel so lucky to have a few of your books. Thanks for sharing.
LOVELOVELOVE....everything about this!!!....Just when I was getting ready to get rid of...and sell my fodder & do-dads...you have reignited my passions....Thank you so much for your awesome videos and inspiration. Thank you for sharing!!!...Thumbs UP!!...subscribed...and cannot wait to see what the future holds!!...creative blessings
Hooray! I am thrilled that you have regained your creative mojo! Thank you so much for your amazingly kind comments. So glad you are a new subscriber. Keep me posted on your newly-ignited creative passion. I'd love to hear about what you create. xoxo- gina
Wow Childcraft what a memory flashback for me! we had the whole set growing up! One of the set a from the 70s. If I had only seen into the future right!
Oh goodness...ME TOO! If I had known then what I know now, I'd have an endless supply of vintage goodness from my childhood - like my wallpaper!!!! Oh well, guess that what estate sales are for. xoxo- gina
I enjoyed seeing your journal with a 4 inch spine. Lovely page types and sizes. I altered a comp book and made a 3.5 inch spine. She is "Big Bertha". I love the size and flexibility and fun factor. Down sides: 1) I don't really take her places as often. 2) I have to watch how I lift her up (puts a strain on my wrist if I use one hand). 3) Limited snuggle factor. 4) Expensive shipping. You would laugh at some of the positions I've gotten into to journal (like in the car) 😂 Anyway, enjoyable and worth it. This size might be a good option for custom orders.
Hi Lisa, thank you for sharing about Bertha. I am looking forward to spending lots of awkward times with Little. You are right...could be good for custom orders. Thank you for your kind words. Happy creating. xoxo- gina
They are just to die for, I'm always on the lookout when I go to thrift stores for little treasures like that, the not knowing if your going to find something super awesome!!
I love your videos. I find them very inspiring and always look forward to what you have next. I only wish this flip was a bit slower... keep up the good work.
Sheila, thank you for the feedback. I always worry that I will bore viewers when flipping through. I really appreciate you letting me know for next time. Thank you for your kindness. xoxo- gina
I will! I have seen only one version of this book and it was the one that was sectioned and ring bound but not all of them were there. I will continue the search!
This is a project I'm starting too, my book a huge old dictionary. Has over 1000 pages. But to buy a blank book that big, I found on Aliexpress was $70-100, but I already had this big old dictionary. So I have been watching altered books today to figure it out. This is the first video I found on altered books on something this size.
My next journal for myself is going to be a combo glue journal/writing one. Thank you for your inspiration and HAVE A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR! Target has composition books for 50 cents each and their spiral notebooks should be on sale either this week or next...I used to buy them when they were 10 cents each!!!
Oh composition books... I am hopelessly addicted to them. I love back to school time, when I can wander around the school supplies and take in the sights and smells. Thanks for the memories. Good luck on your new journal. xoxo- gina
Hey Gina, your little book is absolutely fabulous, girl!!! love it!! I've considered making a "little" one for myself too, but haven't yet, for similar reasons...although I love large art journal & sketching pages...hmmm... I look forward to seeing you continue to work in yours. thank u for sharing this ❤☺
Oh Faydra, you must make one! I am so happy you were inspired. Keep me posted. I would definitely love to hear your thoughts and insights as you work in a 'little' one. thank you for your sweet words. xoxo- gina
Gina... I love love love your "little journal"!!! LOL You did an amazing job, & I can't wait to see many more process videos. So cool! Take care, Kim :)
Before I finish watching I've GOT to find that volume 1 book lol!! I've been searching online and it's my mission now! The illustrations are just beyond adorable and I've got to use them! Thank you for sharing and telling us about them. Ok off to finish 😬😁
I keep coming back to this one! I really want to make my own little big book and am going to practice on a smaller book (not as wide but still large). I've said this before, but I love how you sew paper together to make larger pages! So brilliant. So, ummmm, any chance of maybe showing us a little more of this journal on your next process video?? :)
Eclectic is my jam!! This is beyond awesome. Seriously! I would so snatch up one of your big journals in a heartbeat. Maybe I could give it a try making a smaller version for myself first lol! Do you have binding videos on your channel? Thanks so much for sharing! Marisa
Thank you Marisa, I am so happy that you are loving this. I haven't done any binding videos but perhaps I will in the future. Have a beautiful day, sweet love. xoxo- gina
This is just fascinating to me because my brain so does not work in this way. I am a fairly neat and orderly scrapper and overthink everything. But trying to make one anyways-keep all the old stuff and so fun to see it all together. Product question: would like to use a medium to cover up some text/background so I can clearly journal on top using a pen. Don't like the feel of regular gesso or acrylic paint, very grating my hand as I write. Is there something else with a smoother texture that can be written on? TFS
Thank you Tracy! Great Question - I don't know of any other medium. I'm not the biggest fan of Gesso either - it ruins my markers when I try to write over it. Sounds like a great question for a Art Store; they would surely know. xoxo- gina
Maybe I'm just realizing this about your work, but seems like the pieces you use are all more substantial than magazine pages, which I tend to bog myself down with. If I'm right, pulling from other old books, combining with fabric pieces and other notions, result in your special style...
Aww...honestly, the minute I see a new video from you, I almost yell "Whoo hoo!!" ......oh who am I kidding..I do yell it out..ha! LOVE your videos and your style!! xo
I LOVE this journal. Huge, eclectic, and fun. My internet went out this morning just as I was sitting down to watch your video.... the horror. Thankfully it's up and running again. I enjoyed this video so much. You mentioned you use a sealer on the cover of your book, what kind of sealer?
"the horror"...I love that! So glad you got to finish it. I am thrilled that you are enjoying my videos. Thank you for your kindness. The sealer is in the spray can section of Wal-Mart. Rustoleum or Krylon Matte Sealer both work well for me. I just do a quick spray once I'm finished decorating the cover. xoxo- gina
Um, I don't know about water resistant. I'm assuming yes. It says 'seals, protects, revitalizes, and UV resistant" I use it because I want to protect the ink/paint I have on the cover. xoxo- gina
Thank you and great question JoAnn. I put whatever is on my mind into my journal. Sometimes my layouts are about an adventure or memory I want to remember. Sometimes its a story from when my kids were little. Sometimes its just random thoughts or "brain dump" of thoughts I need to get out of my head. Have a beautiful day. xoxo- gina
That's really a huge book! Love it. What is the measurement of this giant journal? I am working on a bigger size journal too and it's intimidating to work on a larger space.
This book is huge. A four inch spine and I believe the pages are about 8.5 x 11. I thought I would be intimidated but I actually love the extra space. xoxo- gina
Hello, thank you! I have a vast amount of old papers to choose from. Mostly finds from estate sales. But, I did sew many of them together to make them bigger. xoxo- gina
I love your books! Im a scrapbooker and a junk journaler and I just can't seem to get past things matching or coordinating in some way. How do you decide what goes in? Are they things that mean something to you or you just like the way they look? I'm often afraid I'm gonna wish I hadn't glued something down in the spot I did. How do I get past this? 😩
Hi. I am a new junk journaler and I love this new style of journaling that I doesn't have to think and plan before doing my page. There's a reason why it's being call junk journal. Every bits and pieces seems to fits in together just find. I dont think and just let lose.

Love that you seem to use found and existing things as opposed to so many that purchase pristine things. Awesome.
😱!!!! It's huge 😂 no one else would do this massive book as much justice and as much love as you though! It's looking beautiful and I can't wait to see how it evolves as you use it 😍❤
You are a doll!

I love the way u frankenstiened the papers together!

Maybe I'm just realizing this about your work, but seems like the pieces you use are all more substantial than magazine pages, which I tend to bog myself down with. If I'm right, pulling from other old books, combining with fabric pieces and other notions, result in your special style...
You are correct, I don't use magazines. I used to when I first started but soon decided to use my own photos along with old books.

I love this big beautiful book. Where do you get you paper for this is it mostly junk mail? Do you have a video on picking your paper?
I don't have a video currently about my paper resources. But possibly in the future.

Is it a water sealer spray you use?
Um, I don't know about water resistant. I'm assuming yes. It says 'seals, protects, revitalizes, and UV resistant" I use it because I want to protect the ink/paint I have on the cover.

Amazing! Love it and can't wait to see it evolve! How do you decide what to put on a spread, they're always so interesting! 💕

Wow!!!!😍❤😍
I love this journal! Where did you find paper wide enough for it? I noticed you did sew some papers together.
Hello, thank you! I have a vast amount of old papers to choose from. Mostly finds from estate sales. But, I did sew many of them together to make them bigger.

Awesome
I love your books! Im a scrapbooker and a junk journaler and I just can't seem to get past things matching or coordinating in some way. How do you decide what goes in? Are they things that mean something to you or you just like the way they look? I'm often afraid I'm gonna wish I hadn't glued something down in the spot I did. How do I get past this? 😩
Hi. I am a new junk journaler and I love this new style of journaling that I doesn't have to think and plan before doing my page. There's a reason why it's being call junk journal. Every bits and pieces seems to fits in together just find. I dont think and just let lose.
