Jeep Liberty gear shifter lights out! Replacing the bulb for $6, looks easy but replacing holder.

I changed my gear shifter a while ago to fix the key being stocked all the time but didn't realized that the replacement gear shifter has an old bulb. It died and I have to turn on the map lights to just verify what gear I'm in. I bought the sylvannia 2721 bulb at autozone for $5.99. Taking the bulb out is easy but replacing the holder back blindly is a challenge.

Your video was a huge help! Thank you!!!! I did mine today. If I can make a suggestion. Needle nose pliers help to remove the bulb socket and reinstall it once the bulb has been changed rather than using your fingers. There is not much room for your fingers to remove and reinstall the socket. Whole process took me about 15 minutes to complete. I now have gear shifter selection lights.

The bulb holder is rectangular and sits perpendicular to the road. To remove it, spin it clockwise 90 degrees so it is parralell to the road and pull downward where it should come out easily. To increase access and visibility I squated down with the drivers door open. Good luck!
