My mother bought one of these i wasabout 3 or 4 they use to sell them door to door in Westbury Long Island . That thing lasted till i graduated college
I've had the same Electrolux since 1987! I've never had any repairs (I just change the bag before it's full)
I hope to get 5 more years from it.
I have the golden jubilee model. It cost a lot when I bought it, so I should not be surprised it is worth more now. Best vacuum I ever had.
My grandparents bought the Olympia model new from the vacuum guy long before I was born, and it still works phenomenally. I ended up finding the same model for a really great price and love it so much! These are the best vacuums ever imo. I had a Rainbow SRX recently, but I’m not sure why I always kept having to go back to my old Olympia. Maybe good memories using it and just a more fun vacuum to use. The Rainbow is amazing, but this does a great job still too, and I love it!
My grandparents had the same model it lasted her almost 24yrs
1980 Electrolux Olympia One cant beat em
Had one just like it. Though they are good vacuums, the design flaws were one of the reasons I got rid of it. Let alone I don't like tugging a vacuum behind me.
The metal body of the Lux lasted years past this model. The Silverado was the next line after the Olimpia. They also had 3 or 4 more models that came with the metal body. I do own a Ultra Lux. It is a great vac. I also have a Ambassador which is the plastic body. Both machines work well. But I'm willing to bet the metal body model will outlive the plastic one!
This would’ve been 1981-1982 according to the handle and wider trim in the side. These weren’t made until 1978 and the 78-79 models had the carry handle carried over from the Super J.
I would certainly buy it as I love vintage Electrolux vacuums. Just purchased an Electrolux model Z88. An article listed Z models as made for the Italian customers, which might be the reason I am unable to find anything on it in Canada here, or the USA. It's in pretty good shape and love how quiet it is. Does need a front wheel tho and have my fingers crossed I can find it. It came with a plastic moth ball fumigator that took a few video's to find out hat it was. Don't need it but have it at least.
I am in Canada too, but the Z models were only for Canada. They never made them in Italy.
@@roycenimchuk8425 I was watching videos and picked up that info from one of them. Thanks for the info!
Where's the hub caps ?
As a professional, how would you compare this model to the Electrolux Silvererado?
I have one and still use it.
This is a great vacuum cleaner
We had one for decades until it got to be a shock hazard. By the time we tossed it we were hardly using it anymore.
EDUCATE YOURSELF BEFORE POSTING. THIS IS A 1980 OLYMPIA ONE. IT ISN'T THE LAST METAL MACHINE MADE BY ELECTROLUX. THE GRAND MARQUIS WAS MADE UNTIL 1994 THEN THEY WERE MADE FROM LEXAN. AND THOUGH IT'S A GREAT VACUUM, I STILL USE MINE, IT'S NOT WORTH $2000.
BTW THE CHEESY MUSIC DROWNING OUT THE VOICE DOESN'T MAKE THIS ANY MORE WATCHABLE.
Yeah, it's a way to make a few bucks. I have about 8 old Electrolux canisters that I've gone through. None of them perfect, but when they come from the dump you take what you find. I'm always amazed how some folks don't seem to value good old American made products that can easily be fixed. Their loss - my gain!
@@phelmersaid701 “ when they come from the dump you take what you can find“. Kudos to you for saving vacuum cleaners from going to the landfill that can easily be fixed. I have only found one vintage vacuum in the trash (a 1993 vintage rainbow), but I have found probably around 50 or more cheap mostly Upright vacuums (Bissell‘s, Dirt Devil‘s, Hoover’s, eurekas, and sharks) since 2014. I was able to salvage most of these. Then I either give them to friends and relatives, but mostly to the Goodwill
I have one just like that, but the chrome needs some attention. What did you use to get the chrome to shine again?
does this vacuum has filter that can be replaced or just a paper bag?
I have the exact same machine (not as pretty though!).
Does it have an after filter that needs to be replaced? Whenever I buy bags, Amazon tries to get me to buy after filters too. Got the vacuum, broken, from a friend and had a new motor put in-I love it and want to take good care of this machine!
Thanks,
Susan
Thank you!
Not for this model just a 4 layer electrolux bag and voila
These vacuums are 45 going on 50 years old. They do not have any filters period. Use OEM bags. Never use those crappy thin walled aftermarket bags, they leak a lot of dust through which can get into the motor.
Why does mine keep popping open ?? It has a new bag in it and I’ve set the dial at all positions...Also just cleaned and replaced belt on power head. Still runs like new.
Check the suction tubing going to the dirt selection dial, it may have decayed and is leaking and check the bag door latch itself as well for wear
Maybe a worn latch or needs the door to be adjusted? Check the hinge point at the bottom as well.
Not worth 2,000. You are comparing dollars not sales prices from then to now. When you twist facts, it makes you a liar. That said, I do love the vac, but not all original. The white switch and wheels look cheesy, but I am sure they work! Great vac, and will last alot longer than most on the market today. To me, the real ticket on this vacuum is that is a part of history. When new generations want to know what American made means, they only need to look at this steel and chrome vehicle built to go miles and miles. 🇺🇲
Love it! ❤️
He said, If you bought something like this new, not this exact machine
I have one of those never been open nor used
I have one just like it. Same color. Does not have full power anymore. Just taking up space, Got a new Electrolux made out of plastic, not as good.
Came out is 1979 for 1980 olympic games
I bought one at goodwill for $5
Cause its beautiful and better?
Hose and power brush sold seperately?
WHAT the hose was not sold separately the power head was
I have one but it isn't worth shit
Not sure who these people are but they are not collectors and know nothing about vacuums. There is nothing comparable to this vacuum today that costs $2,000. $2,000 is well and above commercial vacuum territory. Not even a brand new NSS Pig costs that. This is not worth nowhere near $400 either. You can get them new in box for $200 or less. Ugly paintjob that doesn't fit the style of the vacuum at all, and mismatched new and old parts with different hues of age discoloration that were not fixed, and various scuffs and scrapes never repaired or replaced from the trim and side molding. Very sloppy job. Should have been painted a color more befitting the vacuum's style, should have retrobrighted the discolored parts, and done some sanding and epoxy work to the trim damage.
Well, we all have to decide how much time, effort and cost to restore most anything old. Perfection and close enough are second cousins. Most people wouldn't know the difference, but yeah, the price is bonkers. But who knows? Some idealistic person in NYC might think they have to have it no matter what.
Dude, you may be right about not worth 2000.00 but have you ever seen and taken one of these apart. Frigging parts are made of solid steel. It will literally survive a nuclear bomb. So yea, it's worth 400.00. The white wheels & switch are cheesy, I agree. 🤣👍
I have several and they all cost me less than $50. So yes I have seen them, and I'd never pay $400 for one. The only reason they cost so much is so the vacuum shop can get triple what they paid for it from a used trade-in. The money goes nowhere. You're not paying for more, it's a 50-60 year old cleaner@@NotForYouever
@@huskyvacsthe motor is warratied
Motors are not made anymore. You are paying for old stock or a used motor that's been cleaned up. Again, not worth $2,000. Just goes to show how much people are brainwashed about money and have no concept of engineering of the value for their dollar. @@chantalfinn6173
You're on drugs if you think this is worth 2 grand. Maybe $200 at the most.
