100 year old vacuum restoration

- I picked this up well over a year ago off Facebook Marketplace the seller had no idea what it really was but was gonna make it into a sculpture .
Thankfully couldn't get a design that was going to work for him and I bought it for $50
I soon realised it was missing a major part of it and I didn't have the necessary tools to make this part
So I purchased a 3D printer then I discovered I had to learn how to use CAD to design the missing parts
buy a Propane Furnace to sandcast the parts, with lots of failures and a big learning process
I chose the Devil Forge because of its reputation and could melt up to 10 kgs big shout out to @chrispyskiwiadventures3583 and @bigstackD for helping set up the forge
Then I had trouble breaking up the aluminium parts so I bought a bandsaw to make things safer.
Then I had to buy A printer and Cricut maker then I spent about a month trying to learn how to use everything to get this one video done.
I purchased all these tools out of my own money none of this is sponsored.
I have walked away from some restoration projects because of missing parts now I have all this equipment I can confidently restore a lot more intricate things.
In my research of this vacuum sweeper, there doesn't seem to be many about.
Thanks to www.ferrymead.... for letting me film the Doty Manufacturing Company Vacuum Sweeper in Curragh cottage
Now the Restoration is complete the video is done any museums in New Zealand would like this please get in touch.
(ps just picked up another restoration project weighs 200 pounds mostly made of brass, 600k round trip. look forward to showing you guys when it's finished and delivering it back to Museum to see their response).
#restoration#relaxing #satisfying
The antiques you find are so freaking cool and unique, and you are a truly awesome craftsman. I can't believe you have so few subscribers, and all the fake restorers out there have 10 times more followers, although they are full of BS.
You're so underrated it's insane
Thanks I 100% agree with you trying to get in front of the audience on UA-cam is a mission
I like this guy. Not a fake restorer. Smart, talented, and seems like the kind of guy I’d like to sit and have a beer with.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate your support and I'm glad you enjoy my content. Cheers!😀
I’m just blown away by these restorations of relics of time gone by the craftsmanship and determation to do this kind of work takes a really special person and that’s you
Thanks mike for the encouragement means a lot, Cheers Richard 😊
Fantastic the renovation work you did ! You have all the necessary tools to resuscitate the object in perfect condition. A rebirth indeed ! Bravo 👏🏼
Thanks Eric, but I will never have enough tools 🔧 🙂
Brilhante trabalho, adorei, parabéns

Wow - fantastic job Richard. I admire all the skills involved in this project 🙌 👏

The casting part was so hardcore! Hats off to you Sir! You deserve all the subs!
Thanks, i will have some more coming up soon, thanks for watching
Awesome job. I'm still amazed at the engineering from the past and how advanced some of these things are considering the technology of the day.
same I,m, doing something way more Complicated and older
Great work. Such a great restoration 👍👍
Glad you like it
It looks great, looks new again and you did a masterful job restoring it as well!!!!
I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thank you very much!
Amazing! I still couldn't get my head around how you didn't give up on trying to cast a whole part and ended up replicating it almost perfectly
Very good one, sir. Such an elegant tool, although not as effective as its modern counterparts
Thanks DX it's all a learning curve
And don't forget these was one of the first vacuums that only needed one person to operate ,Thanks for watching 😊
The magnet for the nuts... brilliant.
I was intrigued from the get-go as I had never seen a vacuum cleaner this old. And it just got better from there! You demonstrated so many cool skills (save for the gas pipe bit🤔) - aluminium casting, metal fabrication, label making, 3D printing (but my mind was officially blown by the 3D printer PRINTER!!!🤯). Plus the shot of your sweet ride was bonus joy (very cherry!). Thank you for taking the time to film this restoration - it was so enjoyable all the way through. Onya Mate👍
Thanks a lot @patientorlando1306 and glad you enjoyed! Thanks again for these kind words 👍👍👍
VERY GOOD!!!!! nice outcome, Richard.
Glad you liked it!

Thanks better than watching a 3d printer for 2 hours 😉
Great job! I can really see your commitment to your craft and your patience and determination shows through after 10 attempts to perfect your casting! And congratulations on the weight loss you’re going to notice a difference in how you feel and how your joints feel, I lost 35kg this year and I feel like I’m 20 years younger
Thank you so much !yes i have notice a improvement already ,I look younger by not looking in the mirror😊

Thanks Pablo greetings from New Zealand
Incroyable !
Brilliant! your best to date, the money you spent was about a thousand times more than what it is worth and the man hours were probably about 100 times the hours when it was factory made.🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
thanks Kevin You're probably right but I've been working towards doing this for quite a while, thanks for watching
It...kind of works. Still best all mechanical vacuum cleaner I've seen
thanks more to come
So cool how you make the molds with the sand.

My mom found that same vacuum in the attic of her house. It was pretty complete and worked okay. No idea where it is now.

Под кроватью должен стоять винтажный ночной горшок. :-)

I'm from Americana SP Brasil.

Wow! Another fabulous restoration by you. Did you restore your car too? It's a beauty too.
Yes I did

Congratulations on the weight loss. It's taken me 2 years to go from 223lb to 156lb.
Good on you , thanks for watching
The cast turned out perfect... how many attempts? Lol it'd take a lot for me. 😊
Thanks James
Very nice restoration. It would be handy though if you did not obscure the screen with your name. How about the top corner?
Thanks Mark I have done that in the past lots of my videos have been posted on Facebook without my consent .Facebook won't take them down unless I can prove it is mine
Thanks for watching, I'm working on a way to fix this
When I was 17 me and my older brother would help out at this guys 30 car storage unit where he kept a collection of his vintage American cars and some UK cars he went on holiday to Spain and came back with a 1965 Lincoln continental short wheelbase limo he bought over there , he seen parked up and waited at a nearby cafe for 3 days to see if he could buy it , he was told it was something called a Whitehouse protocol and was used by US embassy's .
Thanks for your feed back cheers Richard 😀
Is that a Lincoln Continental in the background?
1966 lincoln continental cheers Richard
You put tires in different direction.
Thanks for your feed back cheers Richard 😀
I guess a 100 years ago this was high tech and sped up cleaning. In a 100 years from now people will look back at our WIFI connected robovacs and say "how primitive". Good video, thanks.
thanks for watching ,wish i could speed up ?
If a vacuum sucks...is that a good thing?
Thanks, worked better than i thought it would
In wich country f the commowealth do you live, asking cause I notice that you drive a Lincoln 66/67 and drive on the left side, by the way I love those Lincolns they are like boats but super confortable.
thanks for watching😀I'm in New Zealand
I'm Sorry I didn't watch the whole video, I had my answer at the end, keep posting please I enjoy and learn a lot on each single one of your post.

Çok teşekkür ederim umarım daha fazlasını alırız
Thanks for your feed back cheers Richard 😀
I thought that Doty’s was supposed to vacuum going in either direction.
The axle is too tight, you saw how much trouble he had getting it in.
no it wasn't that did you see me turning the axle by hand i didn't have the wheels lined up properly so the cam was slightly off set 24:28 thanks for noticing
