As a kid, I didn’t recognize that the man at the end was Shang only with his hair down. So I was always dumbfounded at first that Mulan not only moved on quick, but married some random.
Don't worry, when I was a kid and Mulan was writing ideal qualities on her arm before seeing the matchmaker, I didn't know what punctual meant and I thought it was a Chinese word 😅
Even though the movie was pretty poorly received, I think it has a pretty important underlying message that just because you get your "happily ever after" with someone, it doesn't mean that there isn't more room for you both to grow in your relationship
1:52-2:36 - Bitter experiences drove Mulan and Mushu’s friendship apart. Mulan is angered and disappointed in Mushu for sneakily sabatoging her relationship with Shang and is heartbroken over the fake death of Shang that she blamed on Mushu for indirectly causing to happen. Mushu, on the other hand, was really supporting their upcoming marriage, but he allowed his determination to keep his job to blind him in being selfish due to the ancestors bullying him.
@@paulosm7070ut even when Mushu redeems himself, or at least tries to, to me it still felt like he would never be good enough for them. After all, he did help save China.
0:55-1:16 As a child, Mulan's crying in the rain tore me up a lot, plus seeing Shang's reflection in the sword, It felt so real the grief in her heart overflowing from her chest.
Maybe a piece of rock fell off the cliff side before him and broke the water tension for him and then he was a champ and consciously swam to the surface
Oddly, there are versions of the original tale where she does become miserable. In some tales, she ends up comitting suicide. I know that's dark to share, but it happened.
Ming Na Wen actually cried when doing this part I’m surprised she didn’t win an award for that scene cuz DisneyToon Studios made Mulan 2 very badly to make a death scene out of place
Shang looked up at her and whispers: “Mulan. I’m sorry.” Mulan gazed into the abyss, tear streaks on her face. She stood alone, holding her sword, looking at the blade. As lightning flashed behind her, her reflection changed to Shang’s. She shouted his name, her voice full of heart-aching sorrow. I love the music as she thrust her sword into the ground, & fell to her knees, breaking down in tears. She rose: “Losing Shang will not be meaningless.” She opens her eyes, & told them, with a fiercely determined look, & a quiet voice: “No matter what it takes, I’m finishing this mission.”
Mushu now completely feels guilty for his actions and is even willing to sacrifice his job for Mulan’s sake, and Mulan on the other hand is too depressed over the loss of Shang to even still be mad at him. Talk about sad.
Considering he was originally going to have a girlfriend in this film and the matchmaker was originally going to have a much bigger part in this sequel.
that is the same hair comb that mulan's mom put it on her for the matchmaker and also at the qui kong palace to wed prince jeekie, but i got interrupt by shang's weapon to stop the wedding
This scene. I've watched this movie a thousand times and this scene gets to me every time! So heartbreaking. The way Mulan cried as she was standing in the rain with Shang's sword. My heart just shatters 😭😭😭😭😭😭
At least with Mulan and Shang marriage unity it’s got the two kingdoms to unite a temporary way just to prevent the Mongols from invading the kingdoms right right guys and that’s very good news for the time being right guys!
There was water below, but he would have to land in a very perfect way, because falling from any height close to that, water will legit feel like concrete when you hit it and would likely kill you on impact
This sequel did Mulan and Shang so freaking dirty!! But the death scene followed up by Mulan's mourning is one of the very few saving graces. Heck, Ming Na Wen cried during this scene because it so effective. I just wish a much better story was attached to this.
Just watched this and my God I forgot how awful it really is. But if they did anything right, it's the animation of Mulan's split-second expression right after losing Shang's grip (0:16). Holy shit is that a powerful expression.
I've watched this movie so many times in the school hall when something comes up but it still took me 5 years to realize how bad the plot was and that Shang was the man in the end 😂
I prefer the first film over this but here a few pros I have about this scene: * In a behind-the-scenes commentary, Mulan’s actor Ming-Na said she actually sobbed while recording the scene. * When Mulan is grieving over her boyfriend’s presumed death, I love how it is raining during the whole scene. A good example of Empathic Environment. * Qin’s voice actor is the basically same actor who voiced Gwen’s Dad in the Mighty B! and Kaz in HiHi Puffy AmiYumi * His son is also voiced by Rob Paulsen, notably for voicing Carl in Jimmy Neutron, Coop in Barnyard and Mark in the Fairly OddParents
The one main thing that all Disney princess have other from all of them having pets every single one of them has a really sad moment when they cry which is okay because they know how to rise up again and fight for what is right and save the day
