It's so odd how people think that you could buy a shirt for 20 euros while the people who made the shirt are also being fairly paid. I would estimate that it takes a skilled seamstress or tailor at least 2-4 hours to cut the pattern pieces and to sew a button up shirt, or more depending on the level of detail of the shirt (correct me if I'm wrong). Take the cost of the designer, the cost of the fabric, online marketing and possible the space for a physical store, cost of fabric sampling and pattern making and potentially renting a factory with equipment/ buying equipment, very little money is left.
Let's say the money the seamstress is making is 5 euros (5.5. dollars, 4 pounds) of the 20 euro shirt - this person is then making less than 1.5 euros per hour. Even if it would be a more automated process, a shirt would still take at least 1.5 hours depending on the finishing. How would you as a consumer then expect that a person can be paid fairly when you're paying 20 euros for a shirt?
I think a fair price for a good quality shirt is 100-200 euros. This doesn't mean that I can currently afford buying a shirt that expensive, but I will only thrift clothing and sew my own clothing until I'm sure that I can buy clothes that have been produced by people who get living wages. I've changed my mindset from "that shirt is way too overpriced" to "that shirt is not in my price class", because I feel like fast fashion has completely changed the way we see the pricing of clothing. I think people who can afford to do so, should stop buying fast fashion, for example if you're able to afford 10 shirts which are 50 euros each, you for sure could replace that with a few shirts of high quality. I'm not talking about people who cannot afford ethical clothing and people who buy fast fashion pieces that they wear and repair for a longer time, because they cant afford something else. I only mean people for example on social media that make big hauls of clothing for hundreds of euros that they will wear a few times/ not at all and then throw away the pieces. Our view on reasonable prices needs to change!
I like clothes that hold up for at least a decade of wear but i don't like paying a ton of money because i would be too scared to wear them out. I'd probably spend between 30 and 50€ on a basic cotton shirt.
Quality fabrics and finishes are more durable, in the long run its more affordable to have an item for 10yrs than 5 months.
I keep my clothes for a really long time so i dont mind spending more for longevity, but its become so hard to tell the quality based on price, merchant, etc that ive gotten jaded about spending more. 20 is probably the most i would pay for a shirt like this.

@@KimDave I know right! And that's probably why fast fashion exists and might not really stop at all... Coz something fast fashion over there is kind of luxury for us. And if people stopped buying fast fashion my country will be the first to go bankrupt.
But as a designer since I know what it really takes to produce clothes and how terrible fast fashion actually is, I do want to encourage everyone to shop locally as much as possible. Or at least not to buy stuff in bulk and throw them just as fast. 😮💨
I love the first shirt but I wouldn’t spend a £100 on that shirt. That said, I will go for the 3rd shirt. It’s good value for my money.

that's totally fair, makes alot of sense if you know how to make the same design yourself.
