19:54 ok that's definitely a take on PLASMOs 1/48 ground maintenance diorama
I'm a simple man, I see PLASMO, I upvote.
Certainly seems so; a great tutorial. They could have a "Copy the Masters" category, lol.
EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHTT
I'm surprised to see that scale modelling is so popular. And the talent - wow.
The I really like the A7V the painting of the tank and the figures are excellent! Fantastic to see some of the Australian modellers displaying their art. Thank you Davo.
That A7V was well impressive, agreed.
Thanks for sharing your expo experience for those of us that weren't able to get down to Melbourne to see it. So many great models.....loved the WW1 German tank....an absolute favourite (and one I have in my stash to build some time in the future).
That A7V was a fave of mine. But like I mentioned in the caption at the very end, I had no idea it was based on a real photo until after the event. Once I found that out, it was even more impressive to me.
Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull once said that he gave up trying to be a lead guitarist when he heard Eric Clapton play because he knew that he'd never be that good. I get a similar feeling about model building when I look at some of these models! Oh, well...
I know the feeling.
No way! It should inspire you, not daunt you! Forget techniques, my take away is what cool models did I see that I want to try building myself, or what cool unexpected things do I want to try, like the UV light effect. Don't be too hard on yourself.
I had that feeling about getting into 3D animation about 20 years ago... now after doing a multitude of jobs I've hated, I'm finally having a crack at doing creative work that I love AND I regret being scared off and now realize that with a little effort I could probably have created the art that I feared!!
Wow, what a show. Absolutely awesome. The detail that went into some of those models was mind blowing. Thanks Dave.
Thanks Val - it was impressive.
Nice! I saw a few of Eric's aircraft kits there 😉 That Piaggio you like was built by Eric. He has a Facebook page called 'Manscale Models' with heaps of really well done photos of his models, it's definitely worth a look 😃
Thanks Luke. Eric always does well at the Expo, I've seen him head up to collect trophies quite a few times now! P.S. Your streetlights build recently was very cool, amazing stuff sir. Dave
Cheers for noticing my Hangman mini Dio, yes it’s very bleak!!
But cool! It definitely caught my eye!
War is hell right?
Thank you for the tour Dave. =)
My pleasure Mojo :)
Woooo I saw my T-800 Arnold, wish I put more stuff in different categories.
Hi Daniel, that was a cool paint job on the Terminator bust!
Mind Boggling Talent, Thanks So Much for Sharing Dave n God Bless All
Yeah, lots of effort went into these. Thanks Gary!
Fabulous presentation Dave, enjoyed every minute of It. Fully appreciate the editing and what goes into it ..............Thanks Mate.........Cheers
Ron Dyson cheers Ron. Yes, a lot of editing time indeed!
Which is nerdier?? Filming a model expo for an hour?...
OR...returned viewing visits to watch this footage of the expo??
Short answer. Who cares!! UA-cam/the net allows us all to nerd out to the max!!
Meanwhile...have possibly had more wine than I should have...
I spent 10 hours on a B 17 1/48 scale and I was finally done when my 16-year-old daughter sat on it, speaking with her boyfriend on the phone.
That would be heartbreaking!
Couldn't agree more about the lighting. You need a flash half the time for photos.
That F-14 Tomcat at 08:02 is really something. Anyone know about any further info on that project?
Truly a world class show! Camera equipment is just that equipment; but your videography was excellent you made me feel like I was at the show even though Iam thousands of Kilometres away here in Toronto Canada. The models speak for themselves they were all works of art and the imagination that went into displaying them was brilliant. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Kerry David Adams (oh boy another David)
Thanks Kerry - much appreciated :)
Thanks for sharing mate. I couldn't get down there but feel as if I have now.
Thanks Leigh.
24:51 yeah mate, getting that wire right was a pain in the bum!
I can imagine, Flynnburger, I can imagine. Nice build mate. I think I also saw it in an issue of ModelArt Australia?
@@DavesModelWorkshop yeah it made it in to the Jan edition I believe. Shot was taken at the Scifi Fantasy Model Comp in Melton last October.
Really impressive display of modelling skills there. Really enjoyed it. Thanks Dave
Thanks bugler :)
Most impressive show, the aircraft collection is stunning!
Yep, there were a lot of impressive birds there this year.
Thanks for sharing.
That Piaggio...OOOOH DEAR!!!!!!
Totally agree, could see the pain staking amount of work that had gone into that Tomcat model that somehow came second??? The first place model was nice but quite bland in comparison and how long the build took compared to the Tomcat??? Poor choice I think.
Great video, very extensive! Well done.
Thank you - it was a big effort by a lot of people this year!
Dave's Model Workshop yes huge number of entries!
Thanks for sharing Dave, some great builds on those tables!...Bill
Cheers Bill :)
That F-14 under construction was robbed. Only reason I can think of is that it was "too clean". The current "Meta" is all about them panel lines, pre-shading, dot filters, pigments...
Dave, next time please bring a banana so everytime you say "it's biiiggg" we can get a sense of scale?
Heh heh, I'll do the banana effect in 2020! Agreed about the F-14 - I can only guess that maybe its reference paperwork was somehow lacking, because it was a damn fine model...
Have to agree.. the TOMCAT was a fantastic build and I would often like to see model represented as a STRAIGHT OUT OF FACTORY build..I like both formats. Would like to know who built the TOMCAT?
Have I missed a prior gag or just have a bad mind?? Why a 'Banana' as reference?
Brad Houston “banana for scale” is an internet meme. I think it started when someone on Craigslist was selling a TV but didn’t have a tape measure to get the size, so he included a banana in the photo for scale. This went viral and was copied shamelessly and profusely. Ever since, bananas have been a healthy, renewable, nutritious and carbon neutral unit of measurement.
Otherwise it would be an hour long...56 minutes. Your good.
I freed up 4 minutes of your day ;)
Stunning Tomcat at 08:03!
I loved it. Like I said, I don't know how it came 2nd...
I love the detail some models have, Cheers for this video :-)
A lot of people put a lot of effort into this show. It's nice to see something positive on the internet for a change, isn't it? Cheers, Dave
Great video
Bloody awesome Dave thanks for sharing mate
Glad you enjoyed Bilge Rat :)
The TOMCAT is amazing. Would appreciate more info. Think it was a TRUMPETER 1/32 Model but there must have been extensive scratch building to achieve the structural detail. Would like to know more. I was there for the last day and this model would surely have been best in show.
It was definitely a Trumpeter kit, I remember seeing that on the entry display card. But yes, as you say, SO much scratch building for that cutaway effect. It impressed the hell out of me too...
@@DavesModelWorkshop If I am correct, I spoke to you at your stand, you had a Typhoon 1/24 Airfix model on display?
@@rustykilt Nah, sorry mate, that wasn't me. I didn't have any aircraft in it this year. Some other Dave (there are a lot of Daves around the place...)
@@DavesModelWorkshop No worries.. have subscribed and will follow with interest your work and tips.
Nice model show 👍
Great looking video. Presume you did a great deal of your very own video coding.
No surfdiorama's again this year?..Bugger..Great video again, Dave..Ian
No, the dioramas were very light this year - much less entries than previous years...
I thought you would have had your beauties there..but that's on a whole different level entirely..Looking forward to seeing more of your unique masterpieces Dave..Ian
Please can you get a decent camera that focuses properly
I know, I know... it frustrated me on the day too. I don't think the lighting at the venue helps, but point taken Chris. Thanks mate.
Très beau char B1 français bravo
Merci beaucoup!
Camera work needs work..kind of a missed opportunity to capture the details of the models..
Agree that the camera work isn't my strength. It seemed to struggle with the focus, but the lighting at that venue is abysmal. But I think I need a new one for next year...
Unless It’s Canadian , American or British Then Don’t Show It . Why Give Notoriety To Our Enemies ???
Seriously?
3 rusty cars and you managed to skip them all .....
Oh no, I don't remember seeing rusty cars - they would have caught my eye, I promise!
They were right behind the Paper Ships display , there was a selection of cars (about 13 ) from showroom/Modified to rusty/weathered , category 1/20 to 1/31 Cars Medium ;-) The Blue Shelby Cobra got first .
To much military stuff including aircraft not enough of anything else didn't like it at all.☹
Not impressed.............no trucks.
bad camera leading, missing more cuts, too many moves, many unclear pics, dull senseless bla bla bla in background, sit down ,,F,,
Fair point, but at least it doesn't have a massive "filmora 9" watermark covering a quarter of the screen. Nobody is forcing you to watch my hour of free content Bodo, if you dislike it so much do please move on.
@@DavesModelWorkshop but to judge you, i have to watch first your video right? How can i judge if i dont watch your video?
@@DavesModelWorkshop filmora9 set automatically the banner into my video, i didnt know it before, there was no warning, its not my fault
