The river 3 warranty is 2 years, not 5 years. All of these reviews keep assuming the warranty is still 5 years, but if you look at EcoFlow website under warranty policy, it says 2 years. Although the river 3 has nice upgrades, the one way usb-c and the downgraded warranty make the river 2 seem like a better buy. I do like how the river 3 is smaller though.
@joshreynolds7781 Big issue with EcoFlow They use to state it under specs and or in the manual, now you have to search for FAQ to find it. Yes you are correct, my mistake but EcoFlow doesn’t do a good job communicating specifics and they aren’t consistent.
USB in/out is a hit and miss. It’s not compatible with my INIU power banks. It’s such a hassle to test each one. Unlike the Delta 2 and R600 which is 100w output only. That warrant is important
Got my River 2 earlier this year and the 12v had the cover. I've used my River 2 for camping this summer and it worked great. Got a 100w Renogy Flexible solar panel as well. Love the fact I can AC charge it in an hour.
usb c charging is great...I can use my iphone charger in my car to charge the device. You can buy a 5V 1A 5W small table fan that will run a long time.
I wanna thank you for that information. I've purchased both of them and love both products. I'm alsogoing to purchase Ecoflow max. And I'm gonna be upgrading that to the Delta 2 next year.😊
I recently purchased the River 3 last night. I will primarily use it for a UPS of my IceCo cooler while grocery shopping. I like the Ip54 rating as during bad weather I won’t have to worry about this thing getting wet. Currently I am using a Bluetti EB3A, but it’s a bit clunky, I’m not a fan of the handle, and I’d rather use it indoors for other things in the house during a power outage. The EB3A is way more capable than the River 3, but the River 3 seems more durable and ergonomic, to do what I need it to do.
@@TechMadeEzy yeah I know right? EcoFlow got real bold by releasing videos of the River 3 getting dropped off a mountain slope, hitting rocks and magically turning up unscathed. lol
1:45: The third pin in the XT60i is used to increase the current limiter. If the 3 pin is not connected it will reduce the current draw to a level that is safe for cigarette lighter outlets. Without this it would melt the cigarette lighter outlet in your car. There is no point of using a XT60i connector on a "car charging cable" when the 3 pin is not connected. So they were NOT giving you a better cable, they were throwing money out the window...
So xt60 and xt60i works, but the i special data line is ignored by both river 2 and 3. Something tells me xt60i is more versatile and more expensive. And the solar generator will automatically use the i if present when capable.
@@hcho8164 they use the 3 pin to indicate that that charger can draw a higher current. On larger units the current limiter is by default set low in order not to melt cigarette lighter outlets in cars and RVs. So a cigarette lighter contact cable will never have a xt60i, or if it has one the third pin will not be connected.
It’s adjustable, if you have a home or a cabin that has an outlet that’s an older outlet. You can actually lower the wattage for charging, but you have to use the app.
Great review! Probably going to pull the trigger; I just keep wondering if I'll regret it when the River 3 Plus is available. Double the output, but curious what the price will be. And I'm thinking more for phones and to run a modem/router, since I already have a Delta 2, and will probably grab a Delta 3, so I really don't need the extra output (but isn't more always better?!) Also a quick note, the MSRP on the River 3 is $239; the $159 is the presale price. Still a lesser MSRP though!
Thanks brother yeah I realize that a little late but hopefully they'll keep the sales price. Also just keep in mind the warranty on the river 3 went down to two years something they told me last minute the river to has a 5-year warranty
@@TechMadeEzy Good info! Honestly not super worried about the warranty to be honest...just don't know if I should hold out for River 3 Plus pricing, but then may miss the sale price on this! First world problems!
I’ve never seen that type of cable, but as long as you have the right cable and as long as the solar panel voltage meets the power station voltage requirements and you should be fine
@@TechMadeEzyI was trying to avoid that. Since Tesla or any electric car needs a steady 12V low current (compare what you posted is quick high current burst for a starter. Electric cars do not have starters so they just new low currents for long periods. So I believe this unit would be ok (maybe be able to lower current si 10A is overkill). I just wish somebody who has a tesla or any other el. car tried it
I agree with you sorry about sending that link you are right but I don't know a solution I think there is a small 12-volt battery in the front maybe you can buy a second one as a backup just in case
I have never had my Tesla 12v die but I used something like this on my Nissan leaf and it worked. I did try a standard jump starter on my Nissan leaf and it would not work. The computer would start booting up then at 15 seconds the jumpstart would cut out and the computer would try again. Which is annoying because that is not how my Prius worked. In the Prius I could give it 5 seconds of 12v through the cigarette lighter. That would enable the 12v inverter first so the 12v is then coming from the huge battery pack. Then the computer would start up, working every time.
The new River 3 is quicker for that But keep in mind it depends on what you’re doing. If you’re gonna be doing video editing and all of a sudden you lose your power you might lose some of your work because it’s still not as fast as a true UPS.
Hey in ups mode, if power goes out long enough to drain the battery, when the power comes back will it automatically power on and work again? Or does it need you to turn the ac output on again?
@@TechMadeEzy do you still have the unit, anyway you can find out? I plan to just put it inside a server rack and never touch it again strictly running AC pass through and UPS mode, but I needed to fire back up in the event of being completely drained.
Wonder if you could they make and if you could use a cigarette usb bidirectional charging. I know you can use in some instances solar panels with cigarette port to charge auto batt. I wonder if you could in theory charge the battery in unit via cigarette port using a USB C Bidirectional cigarette charger. I am also seeing usb c PD cig plugs pushing 140watts out now. Imagine a socket adapter that can be passthrough birectional taking power from smaller usb power banks to extend the bigger battery. I saw the new Anker product is able to do this Use little power banks to extend the bigger unit. This would be great,
for the people who are in Florida who are loosing power for a few days due to the hurricane, mannn these two battery units would be more than enough to run a appliance like a tv and charge phones and could power a starlink satilite internet modem
Not for long!!!!! A large tv, which most people have would use up the charge in 2 to 4 hours on one of these. You'd be better off getting something more in the 1000watt range for that usage.
Usb C charging makes the river 2 actually superior to the 3. Since if there was a power outage and the grid is out i can still charge the 2 with all the random battery packs i have laying around.

@story1234 my apologies on the warranty the info I was provided. The River 3 only has a 2 year, don’t know why it went down.
The River 1 is still even better as it has all the 12v out… assuming you are ok with the top handle.

Same, but it’s not really a cover, but more of a removal plug. When pulled out, it does not hinge or attach back to the unit like the newer design.
@@dave-xe6pc Ya, wish it was attached so it doesn't get lost. I try to place it in the bag I have for all of the solar and charging cables.

The 100w USB-C output is a huge upgrade as it will greatly increase it's usable capacity for it's primary use case, charging a laptop.

To my knowledge, they do make the same model for other countries, but this one is 110 120 V
