  • Here is another rare treat for my fellow Broadway fans. This is the "King Of Broadway" number from the Broadway Smash Hit THE PRODUCERS that was filmed in 2001 in Chicago before the show came to Broadway in New York City!
    This number introduced Nathan Lane's character Max Bialystock in the show and I have no idea why idea why it was cut from the movie version of the show.
    It set up his character and the number shouldn't of been cut.
    For those who missed the oppurtunity to see the Original Cast On Broadway, here you go. Enjoy this rare clip. : )

    My mom waited in line two hours to get tickets for this tryout and time well spent to see the genius before Broadway.

    Thanks for posting this! Always interesting to spot any changes between the out-of-town tryouts and the final production on Broadway. For example, the middle section beginning at 2:40 (talking about his transportation, and how Max now takes the I.R.T) was changed in the final version talking about how he used to "wear the finest clothes/His shoes were always new/Now, I wear a rented tux/That's two weeks overdue!"

    just my opinion... i think they cut this song from the film because of the "who do you have to fuck to get a break in this stinking town!!" but for real, esrb needs to calm down... at least its in the deleted scenes.

    • @senorPachuChay
      @senorPachuChay 8 років тому +10

      actually, they said they deleted the scene because not only did it add to the length of the film, it also didn't contribute much to Max's character, as his personality and intentions are clearly revealed during his first meeting with Leo...but i have a feeling the curses also had something to do with it >_

    Why was the best, funniest song in the show cut from the musical film? My guess is that since the number has klezmer-like elements, includes a hora dance and has a few Yiddish-sounding nonsense phrases, the studio deemed it "too Jewish." and cut it. What a stupid, insulting and ignorant move.

    • @romansohor6568
      @romansohor6568 9 років тому +24

      +EllenFD I feel like something being deemed "too Jewish" in a Mel Brooks movie...is...well, not likely.
      The director's commentary on the DVD says they cut it for time, they wanted to get right into the story, and I take them at their word.

    • @katecastreviews4639
      @katecastreviews4639 6 років тому +6

      Yeah, most likely it was for the sake of time, and as much as I love the song too, for a movie adaptation, it flows a lot better and makes more sense to have the reveal of Bialystock be in his office. Why they kept the shot in the opening number of him buying a paper is anyone's guess, but what can you do? At least they filmed the song before deciding to cut it so we could see it preserved.

    • @bruiserbuk
      @bruiserbuk 6 років тому +4

      The film had a PG-13 rating. If Max had said, "Who do you have to fuck to get a break in this town?", it would have had an R rating, and no movie of this ilk wants that kind of rating. They knew it was the best thing, that's why they included it in the extras on the DVD.
