So, after a few years of this video being online, I've gotten quite a few views. Just to clarify, the swallowing sound that you're hearing came from me chewing gum while recording. I had to compress the audio really hard because I was using a terrible mic, so it brought out that sound. I made this video for a few people that I know personally, so I didn't feel like editing out all of those sounds. Other than that, there have been a few people saying that the master fader is clipping. That's not true. Also, my CPU is fine. For the purpose of making this video, I downloaded a free screen recorder. Playback was fine as I was making the video, but the screen recorder had problems recording. Again, take and use what you want from this video. It was an attempt to help some people with this very specific problem that people have when mixing.
Lol good question. I originally made this video for a small group of people that had requested it from me. It wasn't intended for UA-cam, so I wasn't too serious about the quality. I had never even made YT videos before, so lesson learned.
No problem bro.. I've been really busy here lately with the record label I'm with, but I'll upload more in-depth videos here soon. Thanks for watching.
Explaining the technique was on point, idk why so many people are complaining about Unrelated a** sh*t, keep it up man i enjoyed an learned what i already know, it was a good refresher!.
Yeah, I always use mastering software, which contains a limiter, as well as pre and post EQ, stereo imaging, and multiband compression. I'll do a tutorial over limiting and mastering, because it's very important. Thanks for the input.
Yeah.. That's actually my screen recorder.. I had to record on an older laptop, so with all the software running it was too much to handle. It wouldn't overload until I played it back after recording.. Thanks though!
The Parametric EQ 2 settings you really opened my eyes to mixing! To be honest, all this seems so logical, but I end up forgetting. Also, biting through the mix ? Yeah it happens to me a lot of times.
Bra that was real talk and helped me a lot! And great job on getting paid in your craft and love for music! When I heard the beat I knew you was the real deal! keep grinding. And ignore dem haters instead of paying attention to your lesson they were listening to other dumb shit. them haters every where. But the beat your and mixing skillz is fire!!!! . Get your money man you done more than a whole shit load of haters ever will do. Make room for me I'm in your class and I'm paying attention to every word. Much respect bra! thank you so much!!
hey man, thanks 😀that is awesome to hear, and I really appreciate the support! I'm actually bringing the channel back after all these years, so feel free to come check out some more beats, mixing tutorials, live streams, etc
What about cutting some high end off the kick and 808?? Wouldnt that clean it up a bit also since those frequencies arent being used in those instruments anyway...? Thanks for the vid and the help!
Absolutely.. You could do that for sure. It all depends on the type of 808 and kick that you're using. Sometimes, the little bit of high end that you get from your kick can give it some "pop", but the super high frequencies can definitely be cut if you want.
I think I gotchya... So, pretty much up to discretion with how you want the track to sound... Thanks a lot for your vids man! A lot of people on here have vids that I really dont trust all the time, but yours I really enjoy because I believe you know what you are doing and it actually works when I apply, lol. Cant wait for the rest of the vids to come out! Thanks again!
You can always sidechain the bass to the kick, which works great. However, this video was meant to be very basic so new producers could start to understand why things sound muddy. First step is identifying why it's muddy. Then the solution, which in this case, for educational purposes, I chose EQ. Sidechain would be the better solution in my opinion, but I wanted everybody to be able to understand. Thanks for the input though.
Damn they hating on you hard on this video. I learned not to boost my bass so much. So fuck the sounds of chewing and all that other stuff. Your point got across brah! Good Shit bro
Hi mate, I seem to be getting a bit of clipping coming through, not too sure if that's from the Shockwave player or what, but I get what you're doing, some good tips here so thanks for doing this.
Thanks alot for the video man! Quick question; I saw you had some custom stuff on Nexus which I dont have and I'm guessing its somewhat of an expansion to the original Nexus. As I produce alot of hip hop tracks I'm wondering what expansions you would recommend, and where I could get them? Again, thanks alot and keep up the good work!
Lmao guys i don't see the problem in him swallowing every once in a while. This tutorial was extremely helpful and helped me a lot. Thank you a lot for this, I appreciate it. I'll be watching the entire series thanks man.
It's not a latency issue. Playback is perfectly fine, but for some reason, when I run the screen recorder, the rendered video has playback issues. Thanks for the advice though. And I'm not using WinXP Lord Enoch. Not to be rude, but how would you even come to that conclusion?
nice vid. The sound clips or twitches in the video and it makes it kinda difficult to spot the difference. Any way of uploading again without the clicks? Great vid once again, keep it up! :)
I'm making new videos now and have learned a lot about video editing since then. This video was actually intended for just a few friends that asked for help but it really took off. Hope you'll come back and check out the new content 🙏🙂
Just saw this 😂🙏 Check out my new beats and let me know what you think. Will be putting out a new tutorial about compression in the near future also. If there are any topics you're specifically interested in, let me know 🤓
..yeah.. you should invest in a wave editor. EQing bass and kick removes... well... the bass and the kick. Use adobe audition and paste the kick in to the bass line. It is hard, takes a hundred years compared to what you just did, but very few major producers do it and you will stand out. Place the kick over the line and drag the line so that the sine doesnt see any quick changes. Quick changes in the wave form creates blips.. Drakes producer does this.. you can see it if you remove everything above 120Hz and zoom in to the transitions between kick and line.. Kicks are basically heavily distorted line bursts and will never work together with a clean sine using an EQ. Its science.
Hey man, thanks for the info. I'm commenting on this... well... a little late. Lol I stopped making videos due to my work with the label and then my dad was sick with cancer, so I took some time off. But I'm back now, and I'm going to give this a shot. Maybe even make a video about it. If I do, I'll definitely shout you out. Thanks for watching!
Sorry about that.. Playback was fine when recording, but for some reason the screen recorder had playback issues after the video was rendered. Thanks for watching though.
This is really helpful man, thank you. So since you lowered the 808's frequency to match the raised kick's frequency does that mean you don't have to sidechain, or do you still do that as well?
modernbeats.com has a beat submit section. Lots of opportunities on there. Just a bunch of music execs for reality shows and shit in seek of generic beats that are well produced.
+officialdoublebarrel Get in contact with managers. Once you're able to connect with them, tell them that you have beats that their artist might be interested in. Shoot your tagged beats to their manager and follow up within a few days. Find as many contacts as you can. It's a lot of work, but once you start communicating with them, you will be able to expand to work with other people. Also, it goes without saying that your beats need to be good. Hope that helps.
hey does that track you made come with a fuller finalised song? or was it just 8 measures long? that kick gets{the leveling is great} , boring, bro, just the overuse, mistiming. at the end. and thats not really hard piano roll work, don't get me wrong. It's a strenuous path to get everything perfect, talkin 10 years of practice , of mary jane. I have put my work in times a billion, well way times that, I'm a guitarist, rapper, producer.
+Nick Jordan Of course there's more to the beat than the 8 measures that were used for the purpose of the tutorial. The video wasn't made to showcase the beat itself, or even my work as a producer. I don't need validation from people online. This video was made to help a couple of people that were having trouble with their low end on their initial mix. I ended up just making it to put it on UA-cam, and haven't uploaded much since. I don't work as an online producer anymore. All of my clients are artists that I've had long-term relationships with. Either way, best of luck in your future endeavors.
Well the kick wasn't hitting a certain note.. I just took a look at what frequencies the kick was coming through the hardest in.. If you use the Parametric EQ 2, the brighter it shines orange, the more active that frequency is. I don't usually use that eq, but I figured it would help since you can see what frequencies to look for.
so I've followed this tutorial and many others when it comes to mixing my 808s.. I've tried tons of methods but I always have this problem, my 808s always sounds decent on my monitors, speakers, and car speakers after the mix, but when I listen to them on my ipod headphones (I do this b/c I know how a properly mixed beat should sound on them bc I listened to music on them for years) I can barely ever hear/feel my 808s.. I know theyre not the best headphones to hear low frequencies but I can always hear the bass somewhat with them in other songs (even the bass in this video I can hear nicely) do you know what I'm doing wrong.. I doubt that its bc I have low quality 808's, this shit is so frustrating, I can mix everything else fine but I just can't figure out 808s
Yeah man that could be a couple of things.. It's probably not the fact that you're using low quality 808's.. It could be the type of 808's that you're using. Earbuds have a cutoff range for low frequencies that could be cutting off the majority of the sound for your 808's.. You've gotta remember, all 808's aren't the same frequency-wise.. You've got some that shine low and some that shine high, so take that into consideration.. If it's a deep, rumbling 808, it won't come through the same on earbuds as a tight, higher pitched 808. It could also be the fact that you are/aren't compressing the 808. When in doubt, trust your monitors. Hope that helps..
Hit the nail on the head bro lol thanks, yeah I agree I think I'm using the lower deeper 808's which tend to fool me bc the higher notes sound kind of tighter so I figure that there would be a way for me to make the lower heavy notes sound tighter through mixing which I can't seem to do. So would you say that my problem is more a matter of compression than eq'ing? Or should I just abandon those heavy 808's and just use like the shawty redd 808's which are always tight and kind of higher pitched. Thanks again for replying man
+LisaLisa i wouldnt do that bro i did that once years ago tryna cut corners and it destroyed my mix... this video should help u quite a bit... but email me motivbeats@gmail.com with exactly what ur having trouble with in the mix and i could help..
+LisaLisa if u need some help with ur mixing and how to mix u can hit me up at jasonthomas2090@gmail. com ive been doing this a long time. i do mixing and mastering and producing for my friend's studio in Jersey called polygon and we also have a label called Tazmania Records. we do mostly Freestyle (Club music). anyway i would be glad to help out if u want.

Why would you chew gum when you're making a commentary?
The video sent me on my way to learning more about EQing and frequencies so thanks not trying to hate
Lol good question. I originally made this video for a small group of people that had requested it from me. It wasn't intended for UA-cam, so I wasn't too serious about the quality. I had never even made YT videos before, so lesson learned.
Thank you bro,you didn't have to do this for us
No problem bro..
Couldn't hear the difference due to the clipping...
elliottsound lol yeah
elliottsound thats a Big BS story mate. U can't sell to those artist, beats made out of a fucked up computer.
+VINNY WALKER ur an idiot... every producer thats been poppin in the last 4 years have made their shit happen in fl studio on a fucking computer.
I noticed that too. Like the CPU was struggling to keep up with the oomph
Yeah, I always use mastering software, which contains a limiter, as well as pre and post EQ, stereo imaging, and multiband compression. I'll do a tutorial over limiting and mastering, because it's very important. Thanks for the input.

I don't know what you did, but I did the same and it just made my kick more clear and punchy. This is magic man!
Great and clear tutorial hope to see some more vids from you!
Hey Christian, u gotta change the Buffer in your FL Studio because I hear alot of Clicks and Pops!
Thanks man.. Sorry about the quality.. I need a better screen recorder.

Wow your really talented! I like your videos. Nice work man
Thanks Joshua!
Dope bro! Thabnks for the quick detailed lesson
🙏🙏🙏
To sum it up in one sentence:
"Whatever frequency you bring up in you kick.. your going to want to bring down in your 808." : 6:19
That's a pretty good summary, tbh :)
Very nice tutorial. Thank you!!!
Interesting comments and demo Thanks
perfect tutorial bruv
They really help me on my production

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm making new videos now. Hope you'll check them out 😁
I really appreciated this tutorial. Thanks
🙏😁
Thanks for the tutorial. Definitely work on that sound popping if you're going to put out what was otherwise a quality video for the world. Good work.
The Parametric EQ 2 settings you really opened my eyes to mixing! To be honest, all this seems so logical, but I end up forgetting. Also, biting through the mix ? Yeah it happens to me a lot of times.
great tips man thank you
excellent tutorial bro
Good stuff Vargo got starting point for mixing
Excellent tutorials dude. Thanx.
Extremely good tutorial i new mixing was like this minimal But alot of producers make the mistakes of putting too much eq
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS HERE!!! BIG UPS TO YOU FAM

Just subbed
perfect sound bro
thank you that's quite cool., I need that fine tune help.
Hey vargo thanks for these tuts. quick question: are u using a limiter and how? could your next tutorial explain using compression. thanks!

Nice video man
THANX MAN VERY GREAT TIPS!!
great video....keep doing it
why dont you just sidechain you bass to your kick? and what about rolling off the highs? like at 5 , 6 or 7 on the parametric
You can always sidechain the bass to the kick, which works great. However, this video was meant to be very basic so new producers could start to understand why things sound muddy. haha matt luty your music is shit. How dare you try and correct him.
+Christian V. i make this with this tutorial.
thx dude :)
soundcloud.com/cross-dubz-2012/origins-of-the-past-beat
This beat eats little kids!!!!! Great job, great tutorial!!
why didnt you cut off the high frequency off your sub? even tho it leaks a little it still makes a difference
nice vid man, but it does sound as if you're getting overruns (skips) my need to increase your buffer length?
Damn they hating on you hard on this video. I learned not to boost my bass so much. So fuck the sounds of chewing and all that other stuff. Your point got across brah! Good Shit bro
hey man I live in Vegas too, would love to get together and see how it's done hands on, i need help on my mixing and hands on is a better way I learn.

If you're still around, I'll try to put this on the docket!
yo, subscribed to your channel !
But how did you get the Young Hitmakers Nexus Extension ?
Is there any chance to get it ?
thanks for tutorial. awesome beat
Thank you very much......
We need you back !
I'm back 🤘
thank you dude you are amazing!
That beat is nasty bruh nice
Can you give me the exact hz numbers for EQ parametric? That would be a big help!
It`s cliping change your latency on soundcard or something... I would really want to hear the difference.
I don't think it'll make a difference. You see how many VSTs are loaded. Looked like he was using WinXP
It's not a latency issue. Playback is perfectly fine, but for some reason, when I run the screen recorder, the rendered video has playback issues. Thanks for the advice though. And I'm not using WinXP Lord Enoch. Not to be rude, but how would you even come to that conclusion?

thanks
my mouth watered.
Just saw this 😂🙏
Check out my new beats and let me know what you think. Will be putting out a new tutorial about compression in the near future also. If there are any topics you're specifically interested in, let me know 🤓
how do I get that wavy, ambient whooshing noise in the background?
Sick, Where did you get your araabmuzik soundkit from?
Just me or did the sub Freq of the kick overlap the bass Freq ? does feel a bit muddy ?
..yeah.. you should invest in a wave editor. EQing bass and kick removes... well... the bass and the kick. Use adobe audition and paste the kick in to the bass line. Do you have a drumkit or a link for some of the kicks and 808s u use? also, where did u get that nexus subwoofer? expansion?
dude thank you so much man
Hey, Folks! Trying to get some vst plugins Nexus, Gladiator etcs... Anyone?
piratebay nigga
same shit
so what Vst do you use to produce your bass?
damn that lag is killing whole video, i dont think i noticed a difference
Sorry about that.. Playback was fine when recording, but for some reason the screen recorder had playback issues after the video was rendered. Thanks for watching though.
when you say in your notes?? how did u kno the hertz??
whered u get those araab muzik drums?
+Dude Sativ google
This is really helpful man, thank you. So since you lowered the 808's frequency to match the raised kick's frequency does that mean you don't have to sidechain, or do you still do that as well?
were you eating while you doing this??
Lol I was chewing gum while recording. It was supposed to just be for some friends of mine, but then I decided to put it on UA-cam. My bad haha
hey bro how do you get placements thats what i need
modernbeats.com has a beat submit section. Lots of opportunities on there. Just a bunch of music execs for reality shows and shit in seek of generic beats that are well produced.

helped alot
hey does that track you made come with a fuller finalised song? or was it just 8 measures long? that kick gets{the leveling is great} , boring, bro, just the overuse, mistiming. at the end.
and thats not really hard piano roll work, don't get me wrong.

wait. how did you know what note your kick was hitting in the eq?
Just go on google and search "Note Frequency Chart"...whatever key the song is in, that the frequencies u search for that note...
Well the kick wasn't hitting a certain note.. I just took a look at what frequencies the kick was coming through the hardest in.. If you use the Parametric EQ 2, the brighter it shines orange, the more active that frequency is. I don't usually use that eq, but I figured it would help since you can see what frequencies to look for.
dude u should do more
What notes were you referring to?
anyone know any good videos using this same concept but with ableton?
so I've followed this tutorial and many others when it comes to mixing my 808s.. You better use Camtasia Studio 8 for recoeding...
Anyways Thanks Man.
Or cam studio for free.
i be putting low passes on my kcks and 808's, it kinda takes the life away from all of my drums. i'm guessing i shouldn't do that. any advice?
+LisaLisa i wouldnt do that bro i did that once years ago tryna cut corners and it destroyed my mix... this video should help u quite a bit... but email me motivbeats@gmail.com with exactly what ur having trouble with in the mix and i could help..
