it's hard to pick a favourite, but i love Myrmecia Urens, they're so cute
Yeah Urens are cute, so small.
My nigrocincta is in the mail to me this week. Super excited. I used to trailbike out at Menai, in Sydney in the 1980's when I was a youth. The area was filled with nigrocinta nests. The orange on their bodies looked so amazing in the sunshine. Like orange gems.
Yes Nigrocincta are special. One of my favourites species of Myrmecia. The colour is amazing. Unfortunately this colony died out but I plan on getting them again one day.
@@NovoAnts I know where they are located in Sydney. But I don't know where anywhere else.
Colony’s going well
Yeah they are, thanks for watching
Yessss the update that I was waiting for 😄😄😄😄
Hope you enjoyed! It’s was worth it. 😃👍🏼
I loved it!!!
Beautiful 😻
Thanks 😊
So cool!!! Can’t wait see them as a fully established colony
Thanks for watching. Yeah it’s great colony and I can’t wait to have it fully established, I have some great ideas for it.
Absolute beautiful colony very cool to see the workers. My aphaenogaster longiceps queen has almost had her first workers 😁. My favourite species of myrmecia has to be myrmecia nigreceps since they are very common around my area but I do like jack jumpers 👍🏽
Yeah the species are fantastic. Nigriceps are very big, I love them as well, unfortunately my queen died.
I think they may have changed the Bull ant den because mine doesn't have the refill hole that yours has but it works just fine for my Pilosula colony.
Oh really...I’ll find out for you. Thanks for watching
Myrmecia Fulvipes are my fav
Yeah they are beautiful ☺️
@@NovoAnts Sure are!! mine just got her first worker :D also your nigrocincta colony are looking great!!!
Awwww! A nanitic! And cocoons! And eggs?! Holy moly Novo calm down! Congrats man! Hopefully this colony goes well for you :D
Cheers mate! I’m super happy! So good to have a colony going now...hopefully the good start keeps going. 🤞🏼👍🏼
@@NovoAnts yeah that would be awesome!
I got a trap jaw ant queen and am hoping to get workers by the end of the year
Wow that’s awesome! Well done...they are on my list still...super keen to see how you go.
i think that myrmecia nigrocincta are a really nice species, one of my favorites that i keep, but there are so many other species out there that look so cool!
Yeah I agree, they are beautiful but there are lots of others that I would love. I’m on the hunt for a trap jaw queen.
Awesome!
Thanks 😊
awsome
Thanks 😊
Nice video!
Thanks 😊
Stunning!! Envy ;)
Thanks 😊
i'm looking to try to find a bull ant queen and was wondering when their nuptials were?
Nuptials for bull ants go for quite a while and depend on the species. They start around November and go to March (can get them at other times though) The best idea is to find local colonies and see if there is any movement. They will make their entrances wider for nuptials. Also if you see drone or virgin alates near the nest entrance then they will fly soon, don’t catch them though as they haven’t mated.
@@NovoAnts thank You! i'll look out for them when I can.
Great video mate, and just one question do you feed the colony protein when the eggs turn in larvae? because one of my queen ant isn't taking any food
Yea once the eggs hatch and are larvae you will need to supply protein. Sometimes the queen will feed trophic (infertile eggs) to her larvae so she might not need protein. Bit always offer it. Small crickets are good
@@NovoAnts thanks
Do I need to add any water to their substrate or do they like the outworld part dry?
No you don’t need to add water to the substrate. Just keep the outworld dry with a water source and a sweet source, being honey or sugar water. If you have larvae you will need a protein source. Let me know if you need anything else 😊👍🏼
Looking great! I just yesterday watched the first video of her when she was still alone 😁
May i ask what video equipment you use for those close up views?
Thanks that’s great. I only use my iPhone 11 at the moment and for the close ups I use a macro lens. It’s pretty good, but I’m working on upgrading to a better one again.
Hey novo Ants I always ask u this question and always forget but what seasons do bull ant queens and kings go out to mate? And we’re should I go to find a queen bull ant for myself?
That’s a good question. Bull ant species fly at different times, they generally start around November and end around April. Just need to keep an eye on nests around your area. The nests can be a little hard to find but they will be around. Where are you located?
Hiya, I found a M. nigrocincta queen about two weeks ago (start of October, north east NSW) and she had nine eggs last time I checked. Beautiful species ❤️
Hi
May i ask, what size of test tube are you using?
I think they are 16mm glass tubes.
What is the temperature where you have the Ants?
I keep them in an area of my garage so it’s around the ambient outside temp, it’s probably a little warmer than outside. I would say at the moment between 25-35 during the day.
@@NovoAnts Thanks .... do thet “go slow” in winter or are they aktive as in summer?
They generally go slower during winter, some warm the nest with a heat pad or cable to keep them growing, I’m unsure but it might have adverse effects on the life of the queen, naturally they would rest a bit which would make them live longer but I don’t have firm evidence of this yet.
A few more Bull ants and change your name to BullAntDen 😂
Oh wait someone has the name!
Yeah I can use that name as it’s a product but the bull ants are very popular for ant keepers. Thanks for watching
Is that the queen I gave u?
No it’s the one from Badboy Ants, your one is doing well and has eggs now
👍🐜🇪🇸
