Hi Phil, thanks for doing the timestamps right after the show. Can end my night with some good content, so "just so you know (your catchphrase)," you're appreciated
Hey Phil, I love your channel. Your content over the years has inspired me to build a strat from Warwick/Stewmac parts. Excellent result! I just finished installing PRails with triple shots into a 2000-ish epi Les Paul. I love the results! Thank you for your detailed, thoughtful demonstrations. You are a wonderful information resource. 😊
For the somnium guitar you should write a track for your album called insomnium, you just use that guitar switching out pickups for every part or change
Philip! I was a bit "late to the party" this time; but it looks like Yr. technical difficulties helped a little with that! 😅 I spend a fair amount of time in activities that are potentially BRUTAL to my hands (up here in "High Country"). I first make it a point to avoid "expedient shortcuts" which often result in injury and damage. I've also got my diet REALLY dialed-in; and proper hydration is critical. Nu-Skin works well on cuts; and Pure Glycerin heals skin FAST! Salud!! 🤘
I do construction off and on- I find a satin or nitro finish easier- and a slim c shape neck. Those are my general preferences regardless, but I'm usually pretty flexible with those things. But it definitely seems to help when my hands are hurting.
Long time (90s-10s era) metal/punk/hardcore bass player here. I'm a sucker For p basses. My fave is a PJ with a fairly hot p pickup and a noiseless but pretty classic sounding jazz blended in to taste essentially as a tone control. Jazzes can pretty much do anything - but can't quite nail the warmth of a p imo. For years my main instrument were soapbars (Thunderbird/ripper). They always sounded great. Thick solid bottom end. just not quite as musical as a PJ though. Stingrays- sometimes they are awesome. Sometimes they are horrible. Limited experience with emg/more modern stuff
Get the superglue that comes with a brush in the cap. It’s the best for playing with a sore finger tip. By the way, great show as usual! I’ve been here since show number one
1:10:24 Literally have 1 hard shell generic guitar case just so I have a place to put my stickers. And for patches on gig bags, you gotta sew, not iron!
I love my Boss Katana amp but then again I'm running a PRS compressor in front of it that stays on all the time. Like you said, you can't tell it's on until you turn it off.
I like a hard case for every guitar, especially acoustics. In Minnesota with low humidity now, I'm placing a Govee hygrometer to several cases so I can track the internal temp and humidity from my phone without opening them. I have Daddario maintain packs in a couple and damp sponges in aerated soap box cases in others. I can watch how long the RH% holds up and use that as a guide for other cased guitars that aren't monitored. So yes cases are a must.
Hey Phil I've been meaning to ask what is the dark greyish green acoustic. It looks like a Godin A6 maybe but the headstock looks to be slightly different and not say Godin. In the frame it's the 3rd to the right. I have a '98 Godin LGX and absolutely love it. Godin's are a great deal on the used market.
I would love to not know whether its going to be 70 degrees or 95 degrees. I don't know whether its gojng to be 25 or 75. In the past week the temperature has been as low as 25 and as high as 80.
A 50% tariff would make a $1000 foreign guitar cost $1500. US-made guitars would have dynamic price increases because the source woods and OEM parts are made overseas. Ebony, for instance, is produced in Africa and Asia. There will be a price increase for this wood. There would be a price increase for maple from Canadian sources. Maple is also grown in the US. Rosewood is grown in Latin America and overseas. We will feel it, because most woods we prefer are not grown in the USA. Carbon fiber guitars, anyone?
I breathe on my hands to get some moisture on them to open a bag. Mine are dry too. A woman told me to spit on my hands at the supermarket. I wouldn't do this in public. ;-)
How often does this show make it to audio podcast format? I've been listening for a while, but the livestreams don't seem to all make it to the audio version.
Hi Phil, Great info about the compressor pedal in front of the Katana. I found it did the exact same thing for the Lime 6 catalyst amp. However I did not like the compressor pedal with my Marshall tube amp.
If you want to put an iron-om patch on a gig bag, iron it on the pocket with a block of wood in the pocket to protect the foam. The outer side of the pocket is not likely to have foam. I love the channel but timing for live doesn't work for me. I watch the recording on Saturday morning with my coffee (or maybe a Second Cup of Coffee - reference to a Gordon Lightfoot song). Thanks and KYG 🤘
Funny you mentioned the giveaways. I enter nearly zero giveaways, because there are so many products that I think, "You'd have to pay me to take that thing off your hands." Then you get a W6 for the value, and you pay taxes on that! There was a guy who won an expensive guitar from Sweetwater who had to sell it a few years ago, because he couldn't afford the taxes on the free item! 😃Last thing I would want to do is win an item I don't really want or need and then have to pay Uncle Sam for the 'pleasure'.
Seconding compressor in front of Katana, noticeable improvement + separate from using the onboard ones. The other one that worked for me was setting master vol to 10 and then using amp volume and gain low/to taste. Makes it sound pushed more naturally imo
I use Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion for my dry hands. I put a little bit of water on my palms and then rub in the Aveeno and it's instant nourishing and relief. Cera Ve was highly recommended to me by my doctor. It costs more and is probably better than aveeno, but I haven't tried it yet. Maybe this winter I will. I do highly recommend the Aveeno but you have to use it two or three times a day.
Great way to unwind after work, watching the podcast I missed live. Out of the 8 guitars I have; 7 have cases; but that's the way they came when bought. Only my 65 Gibson Firebird III non-reverse doesn't have one a case. I don't think I have really given much thought about gig bags v cases. great podcast as always. Tell Jay howdy.
Best thing I found for dry chapped cracking skin is to find a really good lotion, put it on at night and put on cheap white cotton gloves and go to sleep…You can find those gloves in a 2pk for 5 bucks at any drugstore…works like a charm👍

One thought on the Katana / compressor discussion - internally, you can place the compressor after the amp block. This changes the feel, with the benefit of changing settings per patch.
It would be cool if StewMac sent you all their pedal kits and you made a demo video of how they sounded, how to arrange them on a pedal board, and maybe a bit about assembling them.
