You have a sweet voice. I don’t know why anyone would try to play a song that complex as a solo piece. There’s probably 50 instruments and 10 voices on the record. Yeah you pulled it off❤️🥰
Tripped down! It's like arranging in reverse. In my book songs come down to lyrics, melody, and harmony. This talented woman's rendition works because the tune is well written.
You turned a Steely Dan pop tune into folk/jazz/lounge. I felt like I was listening to a mixture of Joni Mitchell and Frank Sinatra. You are extremely talented. Loved it!
Some of the most difficult vocals in Rock and to adjust the vocal range to be able to make it an acoustic song is simply amazing. WELL DONE. So many SD covers fail because the vocals don’t come close but this is a really COOL spin on a truly classic song!!!
Sitting in your room with only an acoustic guitar and a microphone !!! You sound better than most of the stuff recorded today. You are truly awesome. Well done.
👏🏻 I’m not only impressed by your performance, but also impressed that you’re even aware of this song! I’m 55 years old, and I don’t know anyone younger than me who’s familiar with SD’s catalog.
WOW, Colette... That is a great rendition of a fairly dificult song to convey effectively... As a composer (not yet recognised lol), I've listened to all the top artists and you are worth subscribing to... For those days when I like to discover new Artists/music ☕🍷🎯🎸😃
That's highly ambitious of you to tackle the complexity of Steely Dan and, especially that particular song. The original is an all time favourite of mine and it holds a special place in my heart & memory...so the fact that your rendition impressed and connected with me in the way it did says a hell of a lot. You're a super-talented force... though you make it sound effortless. Keep on doing what you do!
I've watched his a number of times now, each time I notice some special detail. Right hand technique is fantastic. Percussive yet melodic while vamping.
Been an SD fan since the 70’s and I thoroughly enjoyed your take on a classic. You crushed it with a great vocal and great chord choices, on an acoustic no less. Love your talent!
Your voice is stunningly sparkling. I agree with everyone else you took on a difficult task and made it smooth and silky. I am excited to check out the other tunes you have done.
The bare essential parts, but with a great vocal, done so sweetly. I bet Fagen would appreciate the interpretation. Thanks for letting us in on your cover!
One the coolest thing about this is that they way this song places the melody in the comfortable crooning range of your voice, giving a totally different laid back tone and groove. ROCK ON! Hope to catch up soon Ms. Etelle.
I'm going to stay up a while and learn how to play and sing this, and then play it tomorrow at lunch. I'm an ardent steely Dan fan, guess I'm telling my age. Anyway, awesome cover!!! Babe, you are totally badass and wicked cool!!!
Thank you for your beautiful interpretation of this Steely Dan’s tune. Soul groove and musicality are natural ingredients for you ✨ 🙏 and what a beautiful voice 👏👏👏✨✨✨🎶
Wow!!! SD is one of my fav bands. I've never seen someone do these song accoustic and you SLAYED IT!! Great vocalist and player. Donald Fagan would f*cking love this💜💙
So Inspiring! You make it look so easy and it’s not!. Never would have dreamed to try this song. you lit a fire and gonna be watching this 1000 times! 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
I loved this, thank you! My dad had every Steely Dan record, some Donald Fagen solo stuff; Doobie Brothers too. I grew up with this jazzy kinda funk rock existential beatnik-type stuff. Steely Dan is so cool. I loved your indie coffee house lil’ charmer rendition. You are so cute and cool, a great singer and talented guitarist - cool guitar too. You did this song justice because you got into the spirit of the lyrics and music and you let your soul be expressed beautifully with it. Rock on!
If done with the works, studio, sound systems etc i really believe your voice, tone and style would make this song bridge many more gaps across the music generations, help a younger generation really hear this tune. Besides that i think i personally would prefer your play/voice of this song. I never disliked it but also never really went out of my way to hear it but hearing your take sounded so natural so intended to be.
My favorite lyrics on planet Earth: "Is there gas in the car? Yes, there's gas in the car." Would have loved to have heard this with a full band behind you. Very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing.
I grew up a steely Dan fan. It used to play in the jukebox at my beach as a kid. Once in a trip to Fiji I met Walter Becker and his wife (and his wife who was charging some big waves surfing) and got to talk story over the week we were both there. Fond memory. Haven’t heard many people play acoustic SD covers. Really enjoyed that version and your take on it.
Very tasty, thank you. I was able to attend a Steely Dan show a few years ago, before we lost Mr. Becker. They closed the show with Kid Charlemagne. What a great number-
So good on so many levels. Chord voicing, amazing voice, real feel, and you are an all natural woman just relaxed and casual on a funky couch next to a refrigerator. Awesome cut right here!❤
The guitar was well done, but the vocals were exceptional. Liked the unexpected nuance making it a more personal song. This is a performer I'd go out of my way to see live.
And that's how we do that! What a great surprise. Love that you chose a song like this in the first place. Your style is very personal and true. I'm sure it's all part of a great set of music talks about who you are.
This is probably my favorite Steely Dan song. I couldn't imagine someone doing it solo on an acoustic. I really enjoyed your arrangement and phrasing. You gave it a smooth and relaxing tone.
I Love It! A great performance of a complicated Steely Dan masterpiece. You've transformed this composition beautifully into a well played acoustic rendition.
Not many”bands” cover Steely Dan, don’t think I’ve ever heard solo version of one. As a guitar player, I had to stop and lister, and was surprised. I love a singer that also play more the 4 or 5 chords. Well done.
Anyone that does SD solo acoustic gets my vote....applause.....got a soulful swing to this great tune.....play on
Unplugged and sounding awesome, great job from one of my favourite bands but you made it your own 👏👏👏🙏😎
Unplugged and no gimmicks. Fantastic performance.
Seriously not easy! big props
Highly recommend Jake Reichbart
Girl got soul!! And the way you own it! Cheers to you.
Wow what a great cover. 1 By yourself, 2 playing Steely Dan, 3 awesome chord voicing, 4 great vocals! Outstanding ❤
…I think you covered everything
One of the best covers I've heard anywhere.
I'm a big Steely Dan fan and your cover was wonderful Colette!
You have a sweet voice. I don’t know why anyone would try to play a song that complex as a solo piece. There’s probably 50 instruments and 10 voices on the record.
Yeah you pulled it off❤️🥰
My thoughts, exactly. Cool interpretation and performance.
Tripped down! It's like arranging in reverse. In my book songs come down to lyrics, melody, and harmony. This talented woman's rendition works because the tune is well written.
Distilled down to the bare bone essential.
It was well done... not necessarily a solo performance, but it was rad. 😊
You said it better than me. 100%
You're a brave soul to try this complex masterpiece solo on on an acoustic. You killed it!!
Really challenging song to cover with just acoustic guitar and vocals, you've managed to maintain the vibe of the original. Excellent!
You turned a Steely Dan pop tune into folk/jazz/lounge. I felt like I was listening to a mixture of Joni Mitchell and Frank Sinatra. You are extremely talented. Loved it!
sorta flamenco quasi bossa nova? Joni + Frank is a perfect comment!
Steely Dan was never pop.
Pop tune?! Bet the royalty drips off your ass like the sweat you've never experienced
Love this song and you did really well with this arrangement thanks 😊
@@tangledivermaybe not this song she's covering. But they we're in the popular music genre.
That was fabulous!! .. Great to finally hear a deconstructed, acoustic version of a classic .. great chord changes, terrific vocals .. More please!!!
I love SD. Thier intricate instrumentation is hard to cover yet you found the core essence of the song with your vocals and guitar. A++
Some of the most difficult vocals in Rock and to adjust the vocal range to be able to make it an acoustic song is simply amazing. WELL DONE. So many SD covers fail because the vocals don’t come close but this is a really COOL spin on a truly classic song!!!
Sitting in your room with only an acoustic guitar and a microphone !!! You sound better than most of the stuff recorded today. You are truly awesome. Well done.
That was awesome. I was getting ready for you to scat Carlton’s lead. Bravo.
Wow,She's very talented..Doing the middle eight and on acoustic lines of Larry Carlton lead work on my favorite Steely Dan song. 👍👏
Really nice interpretation of a really great song. This is, for me, the essence of true romance...
As a 77yo practicing musician, you nailed this piece. Nice guitar, wonderful voice.
No way she's 77!
@@letMeSayThatInIrish
Thanks. Dangling modifiers drive me crazy.
Wow, she looks WAY younger than 77 years!
Thank you UA-cam algorithm for suggesting this great performance! Bravo Colette!
Really nice cover. Surprised I got this in my recommended and I’m glad I did. 👍🏻
Holy Crow. Do it again. Super talent.
👏🏻 I’m not only impressed by your performance, but also impressed that you’re even aware of this song! I’m 55 years old, and I don’t know anyone younger than me who’s familiar with SD’s catalog.
What!?!?
@@MrEss-ld3sw Yes, really! I know some younger people who might recognize one or two SD singles, but that’s about the extent of it.
Well it was sampled by Kanye, so…
Sampled? So?
Im the same age. I raised my kids on this stuff and my daughter is now a songwriter. She's about to release her first album.
There is hope!
That was awesome! Don’t ever stop!
Not easy to cover an iconic song from legendary writers and performers and make it completely your own. Bravo!

It's lovely to take Steely Dan songs and play them simply like that. What great chord progressions they are.. Wish I could sing them as well as you.
The bare essential parts, but with a great vocal, done so sweetly. I bet Fagen would appreciate the interpretation. Thanks for letting us in on your cover!

I'm not sure why the algorithm took so long to show me this gem. That was fantastically authentic to yourself and SD at the same time.
Absolutely fantastic! I would have said that a faithful solo rendition wouldn't have been possible. Very impressive!
Sweetheart, that is my favorite Steely Dan song. You nailed the phrasing and essence of this classic...well done!!!
Outstanding vocally and instrumentally!
Damn hard to play this so well and sing so beautifully ….subscribing ….must hear more ! Bravo Colette!
This is called making a song your own...done proper.
You nailed it!! What a great surprise to see one of my favorite SD songs covered like this! Brava!
A great rendition of one of my fav SD songs! Bravo!
FN bad ass!!! Great video even I'm commenting three years after posting of video, hope your still jamming,,,, your awesome!
Totally loved your version and I am a major steely Dan fan from the age of 17 years to 65 years ❤
One of the best SD compositions, music and lyrics. Very nice style and performance on solo acoustic! Thank you for sharing it with us!
I'm going to stay up a while and learn how to play and sing this, and then play it tomorrow at lunch. I'm an ardent steely Dan fan, guess I'm telling my age. Anyway, awesome cover!!! Babe, you are totally badass and wicked cool!!!

What amazing vocal control. This is flat-out awesome.
Very impressive! Great rendition of a Dan classic!
Soft soulful jazz vibe. Great!

Beautiful rendition. Great vocals.
Brave to perform this song as a solo acoustic version. That was REALLY good. You have serious musical skills.
Female musicians are still endowed with talent and skills.
Watching and listening to your video is a pleasure for me to experience.

Brilliant take on a very tricky song. Amazing skills, gorgeous voice !

Thank you for that cool performance. Loved the vibe!
Clicked out of curiosity-more than impressed by this lady’s taste & skills.
Wow. Nailed this jazzy difficult song. Soul, precision and a sultry twist!
Incredible cover. You actually made it your own and that is no easy feat with a complex tune. I bet Fagen/Becker would (have) dug it
Loving it!!

First time I have ever heard an acoustic rendition of this brilliant song! Thank You!
So beautiful Colette. Love it.
This real man. Great Joni Mitchel feel and excellent in many ways. Great Dan fan and this takes it to another level.
Didn't think it could be done so simply and elegantly, but look at you, wonderful.
I Love It! A great performance of a complicated Steely Dan masterpiece. You've transformed this composition beautifully into a well played acoustic rendition.
I loved this! You did GREAT, Colette! Thank you!
Not many”bands” cover Steely Dan, don’t think I’ve ever heard solo version of one. As a guitar player, I had to stop and lister, and was surprised. I love a singer that also play more the 4 or 5 chords. Well done.
Great rendition...amazing how a good song lends itself to minimalist instrumentation and...a good, heartfelt vocal. Congrats!
Truly wonderful. Thanks.
Nice! Unique take on a great song! 😎❤
Mad skills!! I love this song and your arrangement!
Nice that you felt free to express yourself in the midst of the challenging phrasing and complex lyrics of the original. Felt really nice!
there's a soft trumpet quality to this beautiful voice. Great phrasing, AND guitar playing!
Beautiful. Lovely voice. Nice strum-plucking with the beat too. Great jam. Thank you. Carry on . . . (-:
Beautiful. Great vocals! wow
ditto what so many have said - great singing and playing this this difficult song on acoustic. absolutely killed it.
