Ah what a ray of sunshine. Another funny, lovely, thought-provoking video. Loved ALL of this week's colours.... Watching you paint is therapeutic for me! Looking forward to your next instalment already. 💗
Funny you should be talking about sketchbook cover. I made two concertina books, one medium size, and a mini one! You are right about the covers. I started working on the mini and realized that I was starting at the wrong end. So you see, if I had made a cover, I would not goofed up right away. I’m taking your advice though and moving on. I am allowed to have glitches! Thank you for your cheerfulness! Much appreciated.
Only just watched this one totally loved how your sketchbook cover turned out, you’re right it’s far better to make our own and it’s unique! You do work really hard, I’m amazed at how much you get done, and all on top of running a house and family and husband…oops I don’t mean she runs you too Mr Craig! ☺️😂 You so cheered me up watching you after a fraught week, thanks so so much Lovely Gaynor! 💫✨✨✨✨
Wow! You've been incredibly productive in moving multiple things along. So lovely to watch someone else's progress Gaynor! Another wonderful video and I look forward to seeing your perspective on using the Art Journal / Sketchbook. Be well!
Good morning Gaynor, Your enthusiasm is infectious, your use of colour, your playfulness with the paint. I've been trying to master oils and I love oil paint but I haven't been happy with anything I've done, it's a long learning curve for me I need to loosen up. I am however so enthused by you I am going straight to my studio getting my acrylics out and painting my teapot! 😀 have a lovely day X.
SO PLEASED....have fun 🥰 A big help for me in loosening up was just learning to enjoy the layers....and to give the painting time by working on other things.
I love watching your process, Gaynor! (How many times have I told you this? LOL.) I love your sketchbook covers and I enjoyed you talking about your various sketchbooks, and the paper, style, etc. It's always funny for us in North America hearing you talk about A4, or A5, or all your A's, because it's not a term we use here, so if I want to find out what size it is I always have to look it up. The terms never seem to "stick" - have to look it up every time! Oh goodness - I'm definitely getting old! Sending great thoughts from Canada.
This video is so lovely Gaynor 😊for me it conjures up the title of the book by Brene Brown ‘Daring Greatly’ it’s so brave and bold and gorgeous! I love that you paint your sketchbook covers - it seems to me another act of self care, it says that our art matters 😊 I have heard good things about the Stillman and Birn sketchbooks there seem to be several to choose from at Amazon, a little bit more expensive but good reviews and a couple of other artists here recommend them. Thanks again, every Thursday I make a coffee and watch your videos and feel so inspired by them all 😊
Hello Donna, I feel really blessed to have such great support 🙏such a lovely comment and I will look at Stillman and Birn....thank you. Have a great week 🥰
Wow Gay or....I love your work! I love your willingness to share your process! I just love your free spirit... You are my new daily watch!!! Thank you so much❤
I just received an Ohuhu 9x12, 120lb heavy paper. It's described as marker sketchbook but reading reviews its can handle all media. I'm giving it a try today. Appreciate your generosity with sharing.
Thanks for another inspiring video Gaynor. I’ve been in a painting slump since about October last year (burned out I expect) so your joy and infectious enthusiasm helps me regain some of my own joy. Thanks again xx (btw in Brisbane Australia it’s 39°C a million % humidity so your cozy jumpers are making me a tad uncomfortable 😅)
Hi Giovanna, so pleased to know you are reconnecting with your creativity and I laughed out loud at your jumper comment - sorry about that ! Thank you for taking time to comment, I love knowing where people are from.......my husband spent a few years in south Australia....so your message sparked up a conversation 🥰
I an't believe I never thought of this - I usually glue some kind of image onto the cover but from now on I'll have a go at painting. I've been caught on leaves v pages too. Just discovered your channel today, I watch a lot of art videos and yours are so good, you come across as authentic and genuine, it's as if we are in the studio with you. Oh and the charcoal drawing is fabulous!
Hello Frankie and a big welcome to the channel. I really like to hear from new viewers, it's good to read what other artists are up to. There is something really special about the painted covers ..... they keep the memory of time and place as much as the work inside the sketchbook. Thank you for watching and taking time to leave a very lovely comment. XX
I loved it all today especially the snake painting love it, thank you so much for the joy you spread with your work. When I’m not able to play it’s so good to watch you, good luck for your hunt for your sketch book, have you tried cass art shop probably you have. Best wishes xx
Thank you again Gaynor for a great video. Your one of reasons I am using sketchbooks more and had never seen a concertina till your channel. I immediately went out and have bought two. Loved the cover painting and the snake plant painting you changed.
Hi Claire, so pleased to know that you've discovered the lovely concertina and having more than one is a great idea, especially if you want to have different themes for them. I am really grateful for your feedback and thank you for taking time to message 🥰
Hello Joanne, all the way away in Canada ! Lovely to hear from you and thank you for a very kind comment. It makes my day to read that you are inspired to paint more - fantastic 🥰

I enjoy seeing all the different mediums you work with Gaynor! Painting your sketchbook cover is such a great idea! I can't help you with where to find the A4 Canson sketchbook but I can help you with wanting to use rice paper with the gel plate as I mentioned last week. I tried it for the first time today and put a video about it up here on UA-cam if you want to see the results! I hope you have a lovely creative week.😊
Hello Gaynor. Have tried 3 times to leave a comment and for some reason it’s not showing up. I can’t wait for the sketchbook video(thank you for mentioning me. I’m really shy in person🤦🏻♀️😂) You asked about help with a new sketchbook though. I personally asked Cheryl Taves (I’m doing the course you have done previously and mentioned) and she suggested a Jacksons lay-flat hardcover sketchbook. 100gsm, 72 sheets, A4, portrait. I painted my cover and like it immensely, although I haven’t had the pleasure of trying a Canson to compare. Really looking forward to delving into yours in next weeks video. Hope it’s a long one 😂😂💐 Have a good week
Hello Fiona....the tech side of things drives me nuts !!! Sometimes messages come in that were written days ago and I hate to imagine that people think I've ignored them. Thank you for the Jacksons recommendation, I will take a look. Please bear in mind that a lot of the writing is personal and I feel embarrassed to share everything but I hope you will see how the A4 works for me. Cheryl Taves gave me a way in and it has developed to suit my style - I am sure this will be the same for you. I particularly enjoyed her prompts and the importance of asking yourself questions. Have a lovely week and thank you for persisting with sending a comment ..... I will probably receive all three in a months time 😂🥰
Ha ha, you are probably right although I now suspect it was because I included the Jackson art link. Apparently comments don’t like those which I hadn’t realised. Don’t share anything you don’t want to. That wouldn’t feel right. I love everything you do so I am sure it will be an inspiring video non the less. Thank you. 💐
What a lovely start to my day as I procrastinate. Your enthusiasm and joy is infectious and I want to go and play rather than proceed with my Van Gogh master study. Re sketchbook you could try the Fabriano Venezia. It's a little posh but not too precious. 200g/m2 48 sheets, 96 pages.
Oh Thank you Gardenia in bloom - I will seek out a Fabriano 🙏Why not do a bit of both - set a timer - some play - some Van Gogh ? Enjoy your week and thank you for a lovely message🥰

I just found your channel the other day and have been binging your whole back catalogue!! Loving loving loving your videos. They are just what I needed to move on from my funk. Just wondering, do you do something to seal your charcoal drawings? And do you find your acrylic paint sticks in your sketchbook or do you do something to prevent this? Thank you so much, wishing you well from New Zealand.
Hello and Welcome Andrea, I'm sending you a virtual Medal for watching all those videos - especially the early ones where I try just about every editing effect 🤣 I use a charcoal fixative for the charcoal work, and the pages only stick if I haven't left them to dry really well. I will work elsewhere while waiting to pages to feel bone dry. Heartfelt thanks for watching and leaving a great message 🥰
Another Thursday and so much to enjoy watching you Gaynor! Just so damn inspiring.....what tape did you put over the back covers...can you show what you did please...love it! 💞
