Tony Hawk can do whatever the hell he wants these days. There is 0 to prove. I shamefully admit that I was a hardcore street skater in the 90's and really hated on him. I think the turning point was when he did the 900 and I got to see how many times he broke himself off on live TV to make a trick. Some of those slams were really hard. I have nothing but immense respect for him now. The idea that he considers lip tricks on vert to be mellow and low impact is pretty rad.
I totally agree with everything you say because I was the same. With skateboarding always having an anti-establishment vibe, I feel younger skaters often hate on the best of the best; because naturally they receive the most coverage and attract the best sponsors. No can outdo Tony, but it's kind of what's happening to Nyjah currently. I didn't even realize the hate he gets until some young kid told me why I should, but I wasn't surprised. I don't really pay attention as much as I did as a teenager. I'm sure they really care as they are manifesting their destiny to the fullest and keep doing their thing.
@ 1:35 + that front foot impossible was absolutely beautiful. I swear it's probably the best I've ever seen. I'm not saying it's the cleanest or nicest front foot impossible ever done, but I'm saying it's truly the best I've seen and definitely my all time favorite. I love how skaters like Tony Hawk and Bob Burnquist (even though I don't like how Bob makes every event into this massive drama surrounding him) spend the time and money to build these amazing skate spots that help young and old skaters alike truly progress the best known way possible. Especially for young skaters. Never thought about how the perfect ramp let's the skaters worry only about the trick and not the ramps. Can't remember if it was mitchie or Tom Schaar who went to Bob's mega ramp and absolutely killed it at such a young age. Wasn't there another really young kid who cleared the mega gap and hit the quarter at like 7 or 8?
Btw, I had no idea Tony struggled so much during the skateboarding great depression in the 90s. Selling your California mcmansion for what you owed on it really shows how badly your struggling. Such an insane and inspiring story. Dude rockets to the top, making huge bucks, then everything crashes. You lose almost everything but then you work your ass off to get through it and back on top
Such a down to earth humble guy that still skates daily doing tricks I can only dream of doing. Its mindboggling to think about how much he has seen and done in his career and still leaving a mark. Cant imagine where the sport would be without his immense influence and continues to. Just the number of skateparks alone that he's had a part in getting built is crazy, always giving back. Thank you Tony
I joke about tony having a mini cooper, but it built by BMW and really is a killer car,no joke I talked with a lot of mini owners and they all loved the mini, watch the movie the French connection that's what made them famous, its the original like the Italian job, which was good too and also used the minis as well to pay respect to the car,and glote for BMW...it cool...Tonys tall if he hated the cooper he would not drive it but I'll bet he fits in their fine, unlike the real minis they were really small compared to modern mini...piece out, good stuff thanks for sharing, banned in your own back yard that blows,I want a supercross track in my back yard how far out of town would I have to move to not bother my neighbors,or how big a piece of property would I need to not get noise complaints or any crap for that matter...I guess I just need my own country,ah next life ok....
Yeah that was cool stuff, but I know the giant half pipe I got to skate did that same thing to me it was 85% of vert so u had your board stuck to your feet and the German ship builder,in Nanuet New York was perfect and I was able to just focus like Tony said on skating and I go else where and its more focus on adapting to the non perfect stuff that takes away confidence and reliability of where the ramp is under tony would have loved our park we built some of 8 foot quarter pipes to slow us down coming out of the 14 foot pipe on to freestyle area, insurance killed the place I don't understand u sign the waiver to skate you fall its on u but it not really how's that happen if u don't sign it u can't skate...that was some killer ramps leave it to dear old dad to get it done nice going pop...

Tony Hawk is forever the OG
Imagine tony hawk just showing up to your house out of no where
he would get a slap in the face
That was clearly staged no matter what they said.
Tony is the GOAT
Tony is so genuine
The greatest days in skateboarding, no one liked you no money and you did it for the love of skateboarding not to be cool or for the cash.
