There needs to be an overhaul of the entire USA organization. We could have at least sent a team of D2 players with a few FCS guys mixed in.
Yeah - no University is going to let someone who has a scholarship play in this tourney just to prevent injuries on their investment. It's also just not in the spirit of level of play.

USA Football knows the importance of growing the game globally and ensuring parity in the tournament. Hence, you guys are sending a team of nobodies.
Countries like Austria and Japan probably have the strongest football programmes outside the USA and Canada. So let's give credit where it's due to these nations for their dedication and hard work.
There are plenty of players from those states...but the first step in the selection process is for the players to send in film. So those players you want to participate would rather dress up like SpongeBob and play 7 on 7.

Wow. Never thought the US would finish 4th in American Football. Even though the US has D3 and High School kids in no way they should finish 4th. Canada just won and most of their players are High School players as well.
Our best high school players are not allowed to play neither or are D1 or D2 players. Canada‘s best were allowed to play and that is the difference, bro

I saw the shellacking ran down our throats by Japan. This is the best U20 team the U.S. could offer? Do not confuse. I totally love this U20 World League Football. That advances football’s future. From what little I saw from Japan & Austria was great football. Japan especially was well practiced. Their O-line was crushing, I wouldn’t be surprised if we gave up 200+ yards on the ground. Congratulations to all the teams that participated. That said. Whoever runs the U.S. Team should vacate the position immediately. From a report I heard on ESPN. They stated recruited players were required to pay a fee to play. A player stated to having paid 3 payments of $1500.00 for a spot on this team. Not for nothing but if this is true. No wonder there weren’t any D4 prospects dominating the World. But who knows maybe our best was on the field. If so we are screwed boys..Screwed!

They have the best American football youth academy in Europe, and always do well in the junior tournament. It's usually the US and Canada fighting for 1st and Mexico, Japan and Austria competing for 3rd, but the last two tournaments the US fell to the third place game, while Mexico didn't even show up for this one.

If you watched the highlights, the commentator said it's mostly high school kids for the US. Pretty sure most players in college with scholarships aren't willing to risk an injury in a competition like this.
I’m not from the USA but an enquiry needs to be held here. Who is picking the team and on what criteria. We all know there are better players out there. Can’t they send the 3rd string from d1 and d2 schools like guys that would be redshirted

It's very telling in these comments that no one knew about IFAF until a week ago. We send scrubs to these tournaments at every level because doing otherwise would kill IFAF. If we sent top-tier guys, we'd blowout every other country by 250 and no one else would want to play.
Thank you!!! I've been saying this since the Japan game. This tournament is not new and the US team is never very good. People are only now paying attention because some major media caught wind of it. You are exactly right, none of the actually skilled US players are going to play in it and risk their recuitment...plus...we don't even really want them too...this tournament is really for the foreign teams to participate in. The US team is basically just the host. If we sent a bunch of 4-5 star players it would be a blood bath for no reason.
I'm American n I've gotta say that this American team looked like a bunch of "it's all about me" guys... Seemed like every time they made a play they were acting like they were up by 4 tds when in fact they only led for a very short time in the 1st quarter... To me it's the ultimate embarrassment... Not losing cuz u can lose n still b classy about it... The embarrassment is in how they handled themselves...
American team should practice way more on football & way less on their personal celebration dances.

Games were played at Commonwealth Stadium and Clarke Stadium. (They're right beside each other.)
Both stadiums are used for Canadian Football, that's why American Football field looked so small as Canadian Football fields are both longer and wider.
I feel bad for the team. Not their fault. Would Ohio State, Alabama or Texas let anyone under 20 play in this game with the August a month away?

That being said, The major majority of coaches and players in the NFL r just a tad over the age limit... God is it ever frustrating when i have to draw the picture, and then color it in for people to understand...
At this level, your QB1 should at least know how to run the Read Option. EMOLOS read should've been a pull on a lot of those inside zone/read option runs from usa offense. Goodness gracious...

thats not whats happening...you are just new to the party. This tournament has been going on for years and the US team is always mediocre or bad. The whole point of the tournament is for the foreign teams to participate and be competitive. There is no reason to send out an actual elite US team as the US team is basically just there as hosts.

@@Bones12x2 this is somewhat false, the first 4 tournaments the US and Canada went 2-2 across the 4 finals, the US has been on a steady decline since. Definitely mediocre but the team is getting worse in comparison to the others now, maybe time to start sending out stronger players

I feel like all the top prospects and players that are under 20, they are dedicated to their high school teams or colleges. I’m not saying these can’t be talented players, but I feel like those top 10 high schools that get ESPN coverage, they would make for medal teams. But they are too busy prepping for the school year or their college life as that’s almost likely their career focus.
I’ll happily be corrected if wrong and they weren’t deemed good enough for the team. But I just think they didn’t care to join this tournament over their upcoming seasons.

There are too many high schools from multiple states that could run this for decades. The US could send third string freshmen and sophmores from Alabama,LSU,Ole Miss,Clemson,USC and some others.

Sorry if I'm not aware. Who or what is the American roster comprised of? Are they D1 college prospects? Any top flight recruits? I'm not seeing a high level of talent on the American team.
I ran the roster thru the 247Sports College Recruits database...these are 90% no-names. One or two players with 3 stars but mostly not even 1 star recruits. These are high school players trying to make a DIII roster.

Austria is one of the best European Countrys in American Football. Vienna Vikings (since 1983), Tyrol Raiders (1992) are real European Powerhouses. They produced People like
Bernhard Seikovits (TE Cardinals), Bernhard Raimann ( OT Colts), and others. Austria has won the European Champions 9 times in a row now
Austria - together with Germany - has had a well established Football program for decades.
Austria won 7(!) Junior European Championships in a row and sent several players to the NFL International program or the CFL
