I went through chemotherapy and radiation treatments with Lyle. He doesn't know it, but this beautiful man with compassion in his soul has brought me through many a trying time. Thank you Lyle - Heck I even named my dog Lyle and he's a sexy little guy just like the man. Love you Lyle, thank you darlin.
HOW TOTALLY KEWL MAN...GLAD YOU MADE IT THROUGH HELL.. I FOUND OUT CANCER WILL NOT LIVE IN AN OXYGEN ENVIRONMENT...A HYPERBARIC CHAMBER WOULD HAVE CURED YOU...BUT NO MONEY IN OXYGEN CHAMBERS...SICK HUH...IT WAS DISCOVERED IN EARLY 20'S BY A GERMAN SCIENTIST...YUP. .
I had only heard the Beach Boy's version years ago when I was a kid. So cool to have discovered Lyle's excellent Blues version. Apparently the interwebs are good for something other than cat videos.
LONG TALL TEXAN was written by Henry P Strzelecki. bass player for Jerry Woodard. He went on to perform with Chet Atkins. Originally recorded by Jerry Woodard in 1960, Murry Kellum had a big hit with it in 1963. It has been covered by The Beach Boys, Les Black, The Kingsmen, Sleepy LaBeef, Lyle Lovett, The Chad Mitchell Trio, The Pyramids, Conway Twitty, and several others.
OH MY....remember doing this one years ago in our band and I had a beauty of a sax solo in it...oh ya about 55 years ago.....OUCH!!! but I sure loved the days....yes I DID!! Ride on all you musicians out there and keep riding until the end!!
@@notbraindead7298 hi, thank you for your comments! This is one of my favorite Lyle Lovett songs and videos. They did it really soulful and blusey. Big band performance and great humor. Great elements for great music for sure! You take care. 🙏💜🤠🥂
Easily, the best version of this great song! Lyle, you are as smooth and cool as Texas honey. Very cool brother. Always doing thangs yo own way. Makes me proud as a dog with two tails to be a long tall Texan.
Thank God people like you still exsist. We would be lost without your guidance and your music critism .I keep searching for your music work and can't find any but i will continue to keep looking. Keep sharing your our good music work and we will keep looking
This is great musical satire. Gilbert & Sullivan couldn't have done it better. The choreography and Lovett's timing make this stupid song better than it is.
Lyle Lovett fits some music style of his own. He doesn't fit Folk or Country music. I went to a folk concert and he was there with cellos, violins and so forth. I figured either he was in the wrong place or I was. If his jokes and monolouge was funny, I never knew, Couldn't understand his mumbling. After suffering through a couple songs of undescribable origin and dubious clarity, I left. Whoever picked him for this show made a big mistake.
Man, those four singers have a lot of class.
Yep. I want the one in the middles hat :)
Dripping with it.
@@lennywhisenant8100 one sweet ass fedora.
they are the Golden Gate Quartett

Lyle Lovett's Large Band is the tightest band I've ever heard. It doesn't get any better than this folks.
Agreed!!
What a fantastic upbeat version of this classic song from my youth.
The best version of long tall Texan!
Nobody has done better with this song. He's fantastic. They all are.

The Beach Boys did this song in 1964. Who wrote it?
Dedicated Janet M. a Texas babe.
how big is that band
He Rides for Texas like Captain Skull on his big white/grey draft horse in McMurty's Comanche Moon, the prequel to Lonesome Dove. LMAO
Where is the one with Randy Newman? Can't seem to find it on here.
Dr. Hook brought me here
Master of self depreciating irony
It is a Merle Kilgore Song!
He may have sung it but he didn't write it.
Nowhere near Busk Owen's version!
I am a Long Tall Texan people describe me as 5.8 and most of it is legs!!!
🍒🥂🇨🇱
Bred in Texas and Taylor Made!

Not bad. Not bad at all.
Wear your clothes: that's a classical, but only you can be in.
Holy smoke. Is that the PIPS singing with him.
Lyle has always been sexy. Think about "Cowboy Man"... one of his first!!

Texas ain't Texas any more.
It is if you have a big white horse.
No. These lyrics dont go with the music.
Too slow.
flagged for sexual content
Too soporific this version, listen rather that of a real countryman named Sleepy Labeef
