    Well, this conversation has opened more clearly what the delusion is that I have lived all my life until this past year. I have been asking God to show me if there were others on this path in my state of North Carolina. I am thrilled to have this podcast show up in my UA-cam feed this week. I will be watching to see when Baxter comes to Charlotte. I live in the Triangle, so I am not too far to participate in meetings. Thank you, guys, for making this GOOD NEWS available. For the first time in my life of 70-plus years, I can call the Gospel GOOD NEWS!

    BAXTER. This man is a poet! His books "Jesus & the Undoing of Adam", "The Great Dance", & "The Shack Revisited" were incredible life changing books. His writing style is so poetic & full of life. I think he is a great speaker but an even BETTER writer. He communicates with power & love through written word.

    For me, Eastern Orthodox Theology holds all of the Cosmic Wonder that the early Fathers articulated.
    I've never, in my personal Christian life, been "under" Augustinian and Calvinistic thinking though, but I can see how people like Torrence are a breath of fresh air for people who have been; but still, deterministically minded Reformed are working from a very different premise than the Greek Fathers were. They, through their view of divine and human freedom, held to - synergism - and not something similar to reformed compatibilism... and also a very different view of Predestination and Providence in general that Augustine introduced.
    We must be careful to see that universalism is the opposite side of the same coin as exhaustive divine determinism... i. e, God gets what He wants done (in the end) regardless of human freedom (which is ultimately illusory from our perspective within the Calvinistic paradigm).
    Yes of course we can never be separate from Christ who upholds all reality, but we very definitely can be relationally separated from Him through sinful acts born from an unregenerate nature which affects our state of being... and yes it is His incarnation which defied our collective human nature... But it now deifies our humanity through cooperation X But we must - individually - personally - as unique "Persons" apply what He achieved within Himself, as we abide in Him, and He in us.
    "enter by the narrow gate"
    Glory!

    • @JasonClarkIS-youtube
      @JasonClarkIS-youtube  7 місяців тому

      Ha, good thoughts here!
      I love how Jesus walks us through union and how the delusion of separation works.
      “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!" Matthew 6:23-24
      The light is always within you, it's the lens we see/think through that is the problem.
      Thankful Jesus' cruciform greater love is the "healthy" lens that sets us free to discover the light within :)

      @@JasonClarkIS-youtube
      Bless ya ✌️ Greetings from the U.K
      (just my thoughts, I'm not Orthodox myself but I'm greatly nourished by that tradition)
      Yes, the eye of the Soul, the Heart, the "Nous" is where Christ desires to "dwell" ("known" as Lord, as brother, friend and King)... so we "set Him apart" there "through faith". And so Paul "tested himself" often to see if he was "in" it, in the flow of it.: "Be transformed by the renewing of Your mind" (nous).
      So we "fix our eyes" (our centres) upon Him - where He Who IS Grace - through His Baptismal, Regenerative Activity - may be found "today", that we may be receiving the goal of our faith - "the salvation of our souls" , and through cooperation, be working out our salvation ("working out" what He has worked, and is "working, in") with fear and trembling"... because, for classical non Augustinians, Hebrew 6 warnings etc, are to believers, and therefore "it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of The Living God", and to disdain the Blood of Christ which once bought us.
      "Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds (quite agree that there is no separation of proximity) because of your evil behaviour; but now he has reconciled you - by Christ's physical body - through death - to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation, if (and there's the "condition" of cooperation with the unconditional love) you continue in your faith - not moved from the hope held out in the gospel'
      To the Orthodox, who do not work from underlying Augustinian presupps etc, and therefore hold to a differing view of both divine and human freedom, there ever remains this side of "the Jordan", a beautiful, but risky freedom... i.e, we can "lose" the relationship with Life and Love Himself - through our wrong use of our central "will".
      The point is, is that when the universe shakes (Heb 12), are we - as individuals - Who "actualise" the Corporate Human Nature - "on that day" relationally reconciled to Him Who has "once for all" deified that Nature in Himself? ... For if not, and His corrective loving discipline has not born the fruit of repentance, then "such branches are thrown into the fire and consumed".
      The incorporation of man (individually) into Christ and his Union with God require the cooperation of two unequal, but equally necessary forces : Divine Grace and human will"
      (Lev Gillet)
      (from "Orthodox Spirituality" by "a monk of the Eastern church")....
      Will - and not intellect or feeling - is the chief human instruments of the Union with God. There can be no intimate Union with God if our own will is not surrendered and conformed to the Divine will: "Sacrifice and offering Though wouldest not... Lo, I come to do Thy Will O God" (Heb 10:5,9)... but our weak human will remains powerless if it is not anticipated and upheld by the grace of God.
      "Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved" (Acts 25:11). It is Grace that achieves in us both the willing and the doing (but not via a Monergistic Determinism). The Christian East did not experience the controversies which raged in the West around the notions of Grace and Predestination (Augustianism, Pelagianism and semi - Pelagianism, Thomism, Calvinism, Jansenism, Molinism). In the Orthodox Church the idea of grace has kept something of the vernal freshness which the word "charis" evoked to the Greek minds: the idea of Luminous beauty, Free gift, Condescension and Harmony.
      (page 24)) great book!
      Blessings in Christ! : )

    In my opinion, we have no need to wonder if we’re under a delusion. Paul confirmed that we definitely are in 1 Corinthians 13:12: “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” It’s my understanding that the Hindu concept “Maya” means illusion, i.e., what we see in the material world is an illusion. For that reason, I have often questioned if what I am perceiving is the way things really are-or to what degree is what I am seeing/perceiving accurate? It can be paralyzing, but I guess that’s better than leaning the ladder against the wrong wall and beginning to climb.

    • @JasonClarkIS-youtube
      @JasonClarkIS-youtube  9 місяців тому +1

      I've climbed the wrong ladder on the right wall and the right ladder on the wrong wall haha - love the 'illusion' insight. Our perception is just a part of the story. Kinda like all those fellas trying to describe the elephant.
