Nice setup and work flow. It's like a home made versioni of Kiwitech fencing systems. Look 'em up, if you don't know them already. I think you'll appreciate what they have developed. I'm just managing a small herd of 20 goats here in Australia, but move them pretty quickly in small paddocks using electric fencing. I like your vids cheers
Pretty nice reel idea. Cheaper And easier than the gear driven reels. Maybe add some bolts thru your “tin” and use as studs into the reel with holes and that should stop the slipping. Unless that’s what you were wanting. Goo$ stuff. Happy goating!
I have considered this idea, and believe it would work well. Have not got around to building it yet, but the next one will be a design similar to what you are suggesting.
This looks great. Do you have a perimeter fence other the two strands poly. Do you have enough confidence the Hotwire too leave for a day or two and not worry about them getting out on the Highway. Thanks
Blake, I do have other perimeter fences, but they are not goat proof, so if they get out of poly wire they could get off the place. Only incident I have had was deer feeder went off on other side of fence and goats went through poly wire to get to the deer feeder. Certainly start by subdividing inside of goat proof pasture and see how you get along. Need broke goats and feed in your pasture to be successful.
How many joules do I need for goats? I’m doing a small portable fence. Gallagher says I only need 0.2 joules. Some people say a minimum of 3 joules for goats because they are tough. I don’t want to buy a way overpowered charger but I also don’t want an underpowered one.
Been pretty happy with my 6 joule stafix. It is the smallest one they make with a remote. The remote is a fault finder and will turn your fence on and off. Wouldn’t do polywire without one.
Sadly my goats have become very accomplished jumpers & that's what they do when they aren't darting between strands of fencing. As a last resort before simply taking them to a sale I've put shock collars on the ringleaders in an attempt to convince them that the fence can reach out & bite them from a couple of feet away. We'll see how this works but a couple of days in it's looking promising.
Nice video, but please focus the camera on what you’re demonstrating without trying to be in the video. Viewers will get a much better understanding of what it is you’re trying to explain.
Thanks Tricia, you might get more detail from the Fencing Rig video in this playlist about electric fence. ua-cam.com/play/PLheSmkYI97WjC1IMRulYZVGaC8L6GNB8a.html
I’m thinking of something like this so our goats can browse an area that I can’t fence. Excellent video. Thank you
That is the slickest way I have seen to use that style of reel. 👍
I really like the idea of the rope in the box. I will start that today.
I was thinking maybe some ratchet straps might work well might be around to keep them a little tighter together that way but rope definitely cheeper

I love how simple your real design is.
Def glad I found your channel
Good video, you got it figured out!
I really like your way of doing things! Subscribed!

You’re efficient, thanks!
How did you make the axle/arbor attachment for reeling with your drill? Could you provide a close-up in another video? Thanks!
Brilliant, thankyou for sharing.
Great ideas
Really educational, but my situation is different, the corners, have jumpers/climbers in the corners.
thank you for the tips!

Energizer! I never did hear what size of charger you are powering this fence with. Any idea on the joule output?
Use a stafix 6 joule charger
Would really like to see a video on the drill setup specifically.

@@benhabig5346 ok thanks! How many feet are you running on it?
I’ve ran as little as 600ft of two strand fence and as much as 1 mile of two strand fence.
Great video Ben.What brand step in post are you using.
O’Brien’s

What brand/style of poly wire are you using? What is your spacing between your step in posts?
Powerflex powerbraid, the one with 9 strands of wire. Spacing averages 30 ft.
I really dig the set up! How do guardian dogs work with it? They get under it?
It depends on the guard dog and if they got trained to wire as a young dog. Some of them respect it some of them run through it or jump it.
@@benhabig5346 thanks buddy, how long does your wire last reeling it up like that?
Had some turbo wire for over two years still holding up. I’m sure it will shorten the life of it, but not too worried about it.
Why poly wire over regular wire the poly cost more for the same length is it because of weight or ?
Easier to move poly wire than hi tensile
What is your spacing for your wire
11 and 25”
Do you use a shelter for you goats on pasture?
No sir
@@benhabig5346 thanks
@@benhabig5346 Have read you should always give oats shelter, but you get by without.
Is there natural shelter from the rain?
If power cut means what happen???
