Seems like the grass touches your polywire. That reduces the voltage right? Is that ok that it touches the grass? I think its grounded and probably will drain the battery fast.

I don't know if that is "sage grass" like what we have over here in the ohio valley region? Just curious if goats will eat it? It is tough to get rid of here. My soil isn't great but we have had plenty of rain. The spring pastures present some good grazing, then it just seems to transition to a hot wet summer and an explosion of the "most healthy sage grass LOL" you have ever seen. If I can find a critter that thrives on sage grass I will be a millionaire in a short time! I run sheep and cattle and getting ready to fence another 60 acres of scrub woods and take the timber. Most timber is low grade and invasive kind of stuff like beech. Around here if an area is not in grass or production, there is a reason.... they left it because it was poor or it just got farmed away 50 or 75 years ago maybe. Folks back then just had to survive and did not have any resources to work with. As bad I hate to, I may try some goats again when the prices come back to earth. I do believe the person that figures out the goats will be the one that consistently makes the most money. Looks like you are doing a great job with yours. I know there are many answers to sage grass, but you have to look at the type of land I am dealing with here. My best tool is going to be keeping heavy stocking rates in tight groups and try to trample it all in to get there.

Hey Alan, not familiar with that name sage grass. Do you know it by any other name? I assume you are referring to the tall grass in the back ground, that is little bluestem. Goats don’t eat it much for me, but I have pretty low stocking densities. Higher stocking density is usually the answer to most of these problems, so I bet that would at least improve your situation.

I am surprised how large the paddocks are. Do you sometimes do smaller to clear a fence line or target an area? Or is that more for other times of year?

Smallest paddock is probably 8 acres. For the lease I’m on, paddock size is a function of stock water availability and path of least resistance for building temporary fence.

@@benhabig5346 I thought they use electric fence to make it smaller, moving it on a regular basis. At least rotational grazing they do. Are these more once a year kind of thing?

You really should get some good reels instead of those extension cord ones.
