- Is the Snap Focus on the Ricoh GR IIIx difficult to use? @bigheadtaco and I did a little Snap Focus Challenge in Berlin to find out.

Snap focus is easily my favorite feature of all time. High or low contrast back lit scene? Multiple subjects going in and out of frame? Fast moving subject? It doesn't matter. The camera will fire at the distance you set. It's like a shotgun. Only thing I wish is if we could change the zone focus distance on the fly with the toggle switch. Default setting exposure comp, press in, snap distance meter setting adjustment without a menu to look at. Just make it no different than ie. the exposure comp adjustments. This would also over-ride the quick menu ability but this is a small sacrifice for fastest shooting operation. Would almost be rangefinder level control. Almost 🙃
That would be so great! What I do is I have the U modes in MF so it is by default focusing at less than 1m for super close shots, and a longer distance in Snap focus. By switching back to U1, I have access to that super close distance again. This way I have always three focusing options, depending on whether I full press/touch the screen, half press first for pre set MF, or AF.
I wished that if you are in MF and use snap, the original preset distance were kept after taking the shot, so I don't need to switch between modes.
@@PsilocybeAntuanensis Wow great work around!
This is beautiful content. Much admiration for SenpaiTako, he got me into fujifilm with his X-T10 review back in the day, and I always read his fujilove articles.
Snap focus jousting seems like the best way to practice. I just bought my dog a 3m leash for zone focus practice, so I can get a subconscious feel for the distance.
Haha that is a good practise tip!
Great video! I'm curious - what the strap you're using for your GR iiix in the video?
Fun topic, definitely a favorite channel. Happy GR III shooter, still debating on the x personally. Good points made here in environmental shooting with more space and how the long focal length helps.
That was great fun & very informative. I just got my first GRiIII which happens to be the X. Can't wait to get out & about with it. Thanks for the videos. Cheers.... 👍
"My GR senpai", love it!
He really is :)
did you check shutter speed on the F8 and F5.6 shots? I think the difference may just have been a little camera shake as a result of lower shutter speed.
Nice to see you legends together. Loved my GR… until it broke. The new ones are a little too pricey to buy again. But that’s subjective of course. Great video!
I can't believe it took me 1 year to find this collab. Love both of your channels!
loveeeee your channel! love this camera OMG!
What is the new thing about snap focus? Isnt it just manual focus with the focus on 5m? Or is there a difference?
came here to see camera action. ended up watching a camera western ... entertaining collab! thanks
Hehe thanks! It was fun making it.
@@SamuelStreetlife it always shows when ppl are actually having fun at what they're doing. weiter so (:
Great to see a collab between you two!
Yeah glad we were able to meet :)
So good. Great to see 2 legends together! I learned alot too -- just got the new GRIIIX so excited to practice this.
Love the fun factor you bring to everything 😂👍🏼
Ha, this made me smile! What fun! Love the dueling snap focus showdown. Reminds me of an old Western movie where the good guy and bad guy have a showdown in the street. So who is the cowboy bad guy in this video? ;)
Great video Samuel.
Snap focus is my favourite.
I also wanted to know the name of the hand gloves that @bigheadtaco is using. That's such a convenient thing to be able to use a touchscreen during winters.(+ an elegant looking gloves).
I just hope I get to know what its called.
You guys work great together!
This was a lot of fun and also very informative!! Well done 👍
Hey Samuel where can I get the camera strap for the GR? Thanks!
That was a fun one ☝️ 😀😎 Because of Take I bought a Leica Q…he’s guilty.😬
Alô Samuel
A minha GR III Street edition tem uma pequena avaria vivo em Portugal, tens oportunidade de me indicar para onde posso enviar a GR III Street edition para reparação e manutenção, cumprimentos Júlio Oliveira
Hello Samuel
My GR III Street edition has a small breakdown . Live in Portugal, you have the opportunity to tell me where I can send the GR III Street edition for repair and maintenance, regards Júlio Oliveira
5m and f5.6 gives you everything in focus between 3M - Infinity. Why should we use that all the time for street light permitting of course?
I have the GRIII, but I am really torn to trade it for a X. 40mm feels better fit to me but 28mm is probably better for travel, what I use my camera the most for🤔
Fine "lessons", Samuel, but I also found your neck strap interesting, it's like the one I had on my GR Digital II. Where did you get yours?
Yes. Nice strap, I’d also like to know.
It was selfmade by my mother in law :)
What's the address of your mother in law? Thanks for taking my question seriously! Happy shooting! @@SamuelStreetlife
Excellent video, Thank you
I don't want to be 'that guy' but... what is that neck strap you've got there?
Don't worry. I got used to replying to this question :) Unfortunately the strap is not for sale! I made it myself (or lets say my mother in law made it for me).
@@SamuelStreetlife does she take orders.... Jk nice strap looking for something similar now!
Why not have her start an Etsy. The simplicity is perfect for this camera.@@SamuelStreetlife
good to see BIGHEADTACO on this one
aww yeahhh - Potato (vlog) vs Big Taco XD
in the end 5 meters will stay 5 meters regardless of which lens is use - only difference is depth of field you get and the framing of subjects at that distance. it seems.
great video showing this feature of this camera
I would like to know how to buy the glove and bag from Kayo.
Nice collab that we never expected! Is like Marvel universe, but in camera world. Both of you can speak Japanese?
Are you using aperture mode for snap focus or M mode to set the shutter speed to get sharper image
I was about to buy the GR III x but i read it still has issues about getting hot, is that still an issue or it depends if your are lucky or not ( manufacturing inconsistencies)?
I have two GRIII's and one GRIIIx. Never had any overheating issues neither did my GR's ever get very warm. But I know someone who had an overheating warning on his GRIII. I think it also depends how you use it. I only turn my camera on when I want to take a picture. I dont review images with the lens open (you can open playback without turning on the camera). Just my experience.
Hi Samuel, I recently purchased the street edition and was horrified when yesterday 5 of my shots evaporated into thin air. Has this ever happened to you? I realize it might be the SD card but I was using a high end and really fast one.
Take a look if the photos weren't saved into the internal memory.
@@ihauyang8699 nothing there
Thanks for the good conent!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching :)
That was fun!
Thanks for watching :)
😂 Der Anfang ist schon zu nice
Hehe
Is there any other brands cameras have similar feature as Snap Focus?
Some brands (like fujifilm) have features to limit the focus range. But don't know of any other camera who has something like snap focus. The XF10 from Fujifilm has something similar but limited to two distances only.
BHT is a photography giant but physically he looks like a dwarf next to you! How tall are you? 2,10??
Because of Its slowly focus
I have no use for that feature with m4/3 cameras but a fun video
Yes, MFT has great autofocus!
I don't understand the difference between snap & zone focusing. They appear to be the same.
Looks like the same but you can’t change it on the fly like in a Leica lens per example.
Zone Focusing in the traditional way is using manual focusing and setting the focus distance manually on the lens. Snap focus does the same but you can always access autofocus at any time while keeping a set distance ready for snap focusing (Snap focusing is activated when full pressing the shutter button. If you half press the shutter, you get autofocus). This is a unique feature in all GR cameras.
@@SamuelStreetlife Ah ok I get it thx! My Sigma Dp1 has a pretty cool manual focus dial I use more often than not. It's kinda my poor man's GR.
Flash plus snap focus = Ricoh simplicity and love
maybe when I go from film to digital, I'll buy the griii
CLE + GR III is a nice setup ;)
Rather see more talking, we learn a lot more!🍻 Let's hope you guys are not taking pictures in street like that!😊
There should be a zone focus distance world championship. Seems like a lot of fun! 😀
That would be so fun! With slow motion replays and points for critical focus.
!!! like like you both
I prefer 18mm
Usable is not good enough. If word usable comes to your mind when you look at a photo, you must delete it immediately :) Because usable actually mean shit.
snap focus = zone focusing :)
Almost correct! Difference is with traditional zone focusing you are in manual focus mode. With Snap Focus you can have both manual focus (zone focus) and autofocus at the same time.
🇨🇦
You didn't go the Ricoh way huh?
I had to have it my way :)
@@SamuelStreetlife i respect that.
