THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! What was the most intriguing music genre? PALATE CLEANSER TIME: ua-cam.com/video/l4opxxafiiE/v-deo.html Well, I’m definitely in a lot of lists after making this video. All music featured can be found in the link at the description. I would like to thank, again, the Reddit and 4chan users who have created the icebergs I have used to craft my own. If you’re interested in my graphic, you can find it on the Sets and the CD Medium Blog, along with a couple of reflections on this video that were a little too personal to include here. A few amazing creators have made video deep-dives in some of the genres I mentioned in this video. Continue your journey in the description and make sure to check them out. PS: If you think something is missing, I highly encourage you go out there and make your own iceberg. It’s fascinating and terrifying. I’ll be making Minecraft videos forever now. Bye.
Here's what I like from the iceberg. Level 1 Surface Curiosities -House -Dubstep -Futurebass Level 2 Interesting tidbits -Wonky -IDM -Bitpop and chiptune Level 3 Oddly Pacific -Artcore Level 4 Acquired taste -Glitch -Happy-hardcore -Makina - Experimental -Deathstep -Industrial -EBM Level 5 Decade ears only -Black Midi -Digital hardcore -Lolicore - Early electronic - Cosmic noise -Speedcore Extratone Level 6 Abyss of degeneration -Flashcore -Harsh noise -Japan noise -Power electronics -Danger music (and yes I like them all on ironically I'm a weirdo) So, the styles I like are mostly EDM and noise. I love a lot of level 4. I listen to a lot of industrial, dark ambient, experimental, and advent-folk. Really loved hearing you describe the genres. Especially since you see these genres and can be like "Yeah this feels different" but it's hard to explain exactly why without looking it up.
Wow, your voice is amazing. Both beautiful and a bit creepy, great for narrating iceberg videos. Not just that but I also appreciate how you go straight from one topic to the other without wasting time with irrelevant stuff. Wish you all the attention you deserve.
I was pretty sure there was gonna be a mention to PseudoScorpion when she said "a genre you haven't heard yet". Actually I went into this video expecting some reference to lost music more broad than this, but hey i discovered Hello Kitty's screechy music so win win
As a fan of the msuical depths, I personally feel some genres were forgotten! such as stochastic music, sonorism, spectralism, serialism, european free jazz, free improvisation and microtonalism.
We are considering doing more niche deep dives in the future! There is so much more that we wanted to incorporate but had to cut short... let's say this is in a very basic intro to icebergs.
I talked about this on the Medium blog post. Shoegaze is my all time favorite and it sucked that it didn’t make the cut, but I wanted to focus on newer internet sub genres and micro niches. We have a lot more coming up to do with noise/shoegaze and psychedelic music (I could literally make a shoegaze iceberg alone lol)
Okay but your voice is like, perfect for these kind of videos and narration in general?? :O I learned a lot of genres from this one and am definitely doing some research in the very specific kinds of music that I didn't even know had a name attached to them (like Denpa for example)!
I love your 'Is it really that disturbing?'' because none of it really is. Its pretty much a list of everything but pop music with a couple band-specific made up genre. But I think it takes a lot to an artist to be ''disturbing''. I love your 8bit stereolab ending as well!
Some of the shit on level 6 can be genuinely disturbing for moral reasons (if you have a moral, that is). However, I find it the most disturbing that whoever made the iceberg chart (or was it AI that did it?) thinks listening to animal sounds or most field recordings is somehow as bad as digging "music of suffering".
Clicked immediately after seeing merzbow on the thumbnail lolll, great video btw. And congrats, I feel like this video is starting to get recommended to a lot of people by the algorithm!
I just finished listening the whole way through. I can tell there was a lot of research and effort put into this! I may come back here in the future and use the video as an index for creative inspiration, and the like.
If I had to add to this list, breakcore and shulkcore and two songs I'd add two represent them, Softxoxo's - The hellish carnival for breakcore and aloner - television hypnosis for shulkcore. Edit: you got a new sub btw.
Wow, this was super informative and intriguing to listen, the mysterious and deadpan voice really helps with the atmosphere of the iceberg, I didn't even know about hauntology as a music genre and phenomena despite me being very into obscure and lost media (Also it only being level 2 lmao) Good job on the iceberg if it reaches a lot more views lol

This is a pretty cool video, I'm deffinitely subscribing, but I think you should give more artists as an example. Also, the "Genghis Tron" video on the sascore section is actually "The Blood Brothers".
I'm not surprised lowercase is Level 6, animal sounds and field recordings are surprising. Also drone at level 5 - there are a whole lot of people who use some drone music (the ambient end of it) for going to sleep, but not whoever made this iceberg (unless it's an AI)

38:50 had a few ideas about indeterminacy. Main 2 are “take video of driving on a back road during a trip and put a beat to whenever a car is passed” and “translate something into morsecode and put beats to it”
I enjoy these videos but 27:17 Picky Picnic isn't an internet project. It's a Japanese duo that produced a few experimental albums throughout the 80s and were even signed with German post-punk label Ata Tak.
A bit of a nitpick but one that is important to me as a decade-long Vocaloid enthusiast: I own multiple Vocaloids, and when you browse Vocaloid voice banks either on the fan wiki or any of the shops that has them, you will see a lot of anime but that's mostly the ones produced for the common person interested in Vocaloid (those who want to produce J-pop, J-rock or popular music that use similar aesthetics). It's mostly the Japanese Vocaloids and most of the ones produced after Miku's popularity blew up where the anime aesthetic became associated with Vocaloid. In fact two Spanish Vocaloids, Bruno and Clara, were redesigned after the company got complaints that their designs were "not anime enough" and their sales suffered because of it, which as an owner of both I think that's a shame because they have two of the richer voices in the Vocaloid catalogue. Similarly the Japanese Vocaloids VY1 and VY2 are represented by items instead of people (YV1 by floral hair ornaments and YV2 by a samurai sword), but the fanbase represent them with people consistently (I want YV2 at some point, for me it's about the voice). It's an interesting example of people wanting a voice to have a face, but Vocaloid at the end of the day is a MIDI voicebank program. TL;DR: I think it's more accurate to say "many people associate the program and music produced using Vocaloid with an anime aesthetic due to many popular voices being marketed in said aesthetic". Vocaloid was made by Yamaha in the early 2000s and the first voicebanks were English, no anime designs until the creation of KAITO and MEIKO in Vocaloid 1 and it wasn't until Miku became popular where anime designs was associated with the program. Miku technically isn't a Vocaloid anymore and so many Vocaloid voicebanks still are designed using the anime aesthetic for marketing. I appreciate many of the other entries though. I thought some were a bit too sparse but I appreciate you focused on the later tiers for explaining.
Wouldn't call anything about this as smth particularly degenerate (outside of certain Danger Music instances) but wow, what a great and underrated video! Earned my music-loving sub : D
Metal Machine Music could go under all of these imo. Also it's kind of funny how vaporwave was somewhat of a joke when it was pioneered and people took it so serious and made dark forms of it so quickly.
Not only a great video but rich in history and where music is heading .. Huge thanks and love the videos .. All those " wave " music genres sound about the same.
The most disturbing thing about this iceberg is that someone out there classified animal sounds and field recordings somehow as disturbing as that so-called "music of suffering" and "danger music". How is it "degenerate" to listen to recordings of birdsongs, for example? There needs to be a sociological analysis of the awfulness of these music icebergs.
I remember seeing this one animated music video by MC BushPig (i believe that was the name) with another collaberated name that i can't remember. It was pretty disgusting and vile when i watched it at the time, both the music and the video. It was described as shitcore from what i can remember. I found it on a subreddit r/eyeblech if I remember correctly. kinda freaked me out since I was up at 3am alone in my room with all the lights off. but that's probably the most disturbing piece my music I've experienced so far. Not sure if shitcore is a legit subgenre itself but i can only imagine it is.
Your commitment to having a "smooth" transition from one genre to the other kinda deteriorates the video. You end up forcing some facts that aren't necessarily true, like calling glo-fi an offshoot of vaporwave, while it's the other way around, or saying that acid house has "glitch sounds" Also, the list is WAY too focused on vaporwave. There's so many more disturbing genres outside of what vaporwave has to offer
there should be another tier underneath abyss of degeneracy, JUST for the album "Pseudoscorpion" by Zenjin. that album actually *IS* degeneracy... it's so fucked up, it's illegal to even listen to.
I really love this video and will be looking into your channel, thanks for all the new genres to check out. I’m very shocked at the overwhelming amount of vaporwave, or vaporwave-like music, in this video though. Didn’t realize it was as established of a term as it is.
The lines get blurred between all the vaporwave and it all overlaps to a certain extent. That being said, the musical output over the last five years has reach an alarming level of meta. We did a blog post about it.
I think generative music deserves to be on a lower tiers of this list. Lots of generative artists today use elements of aleatoric music. Bohdan Stupak, Mat Ball, Kenneth Kirschner & Joseph Branciforte, Guy Birkin to name a few.
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! What was the most intriguing music genre?

I thought some were a bit too sparse but I appreciate you focused on the later tiers for explaining.
you really got me there with Hello Kitty Suicide Club at the end. I bursted laughing.
your voice is so soothing
Your voice is so relaxing I could just fall asleep while hearing it 💤😴🛏🛌😪😫
Same
So basically nearly every single niche genre is some offshoot of vaporwave
If it's electronic pop yeah pretty much.
Not even close baybeeeee
Wouldn't call anything about this as smth particularly degenerate (outside of certain Danger Music instances) but wow, what a great and underrated video! Earned my music-loving sub : D
Metal Machine Music could go under all of these imo.
Also it's kind of funny how vaporwave was somewhat of a joke when it was pioneered and people took it so serious and made dark forms of it so quickly.
We discuss Metal Machine in the albums iceberg if you wanna check that out. So ahead of its time
>implying the earliest vaporwave releases weren't dark at all
a lot of vaporwave offshots are actually watered-down
Not only a great video but rich in history and where music is heading ..
There needs to be a sociological analysis of the awfulness of these music icebergs.
resident power electronics fan here
my task to anyone reading this: listen to whitehouse and consumer electronics
Haha it is so cool you showed Throbbing Gristle!
Very high quality production, love the visuals.
I used to be super into vaporware and never really put into perspective how many sub-genres there were despite being into almost all of them
42:51 surprised you didnt mention Buyer's Market or even dare bring up Psuedoscorpion, but glad i found more to look into regarding this niche genre
Disturbing albums iceberg in the works and all I can say is both will be making an appearance.
Your commitment to having a "smooth" transition from one genre to the other kinda deteriorates the video. You end up forcing some facts that aren't necessarily true, like calling glo-fi an offshoot of vaporwave, while it's the other way around, or saying that acid house has "glitch sounds"
Also, the list is WAY too focused on vaporwave. There's so many more disturbing genres outside of what vaporwave has to offer
glo-fi was mostly used as an AKA for chillwave
@@SNegrea Well the name also implies lo-fi aesthetics
Also my point still stands
Loved seeing Dead Can Dance and Carpenter Brut here ♥ For Dark Ambient, I think Cryo Chamber is an incredible youtube channel
there should be another tier underneath abyss of degeneracy, JUST for the album "Pseudoscorpion" by Zenjin.
that album actually *IS* degeneracy... it's so fucked up, it's illegal to even listen to.
Interesting.... I might make a follow-up to this video with specific artists
literally fake album created by /mu/ (as a bait/internal joke) inspired by Buyers Market from Peter Sotos

BBBBBBBB...
Wow, I've gone down quite far with this iceberg. I'm quite proud of myself. Oh, and I love the end of this with Cybele's Reverie.
Great video, love your voice :)
i. feel. so INSPIRED!!!! WOW THERE'S SO MUCH MUSIC FOR ME TO EXPLORE YEAAAAAAAH
We did a blog post about it.
wow i’ve learnt that my music taste is even more fuсked and wack than i thought
LOST MUSIC FACT: Milli Vanilli was recording an album using their own voices, but Rob Pilatus died before it could it could be released.
I love this video! Ill show it to every person that comes my way with these questions
I think generative music deserves to be on a lower tiers of this list. Lots of generative artists today use elements of aleatoric music. Bohdan Stupak, Mat Ball, Kenneth Kirschner & Joseph Branciforte, Guy Birkin to name a few.
Finally! Someone acknowledges Vapornoise.
