I've thought this for a awhile now. If you know someone did something, and you hear it from the witness themselves, but then the witness ends up dead because of the actions of the culprit without revealing their testimony as evidence except last words on paper (which could be deemed inadmissible), where does the justice come from? The police can't do anything, the court won't move forward, and the culprit is let free to do more evil. Possible Answer: citizen's arrest. Should you try to make a citizen's arrest, they could fight back against you, resulting in a self-defense claim. This can then go one of two ways; they push back enough to result in incapacitation, or they surrender and offer a confession. How that plays out is up to the culprit. A lawyer could say the confession was done under duress, but a smart lawyer who wants justice done will get the job done.
Citizens arrest is not a legal thing... Stop saying that shit. Citizens arrest is nothing more than u lawful detainment and can cause the loss of evidence as well.
I heard about it from a war veteran (not american, portuguese in the Colonial War). He said that the face of the people he killed haunted him for years, almost like a curse.
