I’ve had my sisterlocs for 16 YEARS going on 17 this year. I only had the urge to comb out my locs ONCE due to hair loss. But instead of combining them out or taking them out, I just got them cut into a really cute loc Bob and I’m so happy with that decision. As a professional hairdresser I have to mention, you can go back to black after bleaching hair, you need to dye your hair red first before you apply the black dye. The reason for this is because all hair has 2 melanins called eumelanin (Blue, purple, cold pigments) and pheomelanin (red, orange, yellow, warm pigments) and so when you do have bleached hair and then go straight for dying it black you're missing a lot of warm pigment in black hair so it ends up coming off as blue or green. I can get more into detail about it but that's essentially the gist of it, sometimes this method is called "prepping" the hair. This doesn't just apply to black dyes, whenever you want to go darker, always add varying degrees of red, if you want to go from blonde to medium brown, add some less intense red pigment like a pastel red (heavily diluted), if you wanna go black, add straight up red dye before the black.

My big sister picked out her locks with a thumbtack. She's claims she used a thumbtack only, but we think a comb was involved.
Anyway I think it took her a few days to do. She didn't show us the final result until it was done & she washed it up and stuff.
The locs did her justice though, because her hair was long ASF.
But over time she got over it and chopped it off, she's the type to never keep a style for more than a month.
She is now a licensed Cosmetologist with her own business. 🤷🏾‍♀️
So it can be done. Just gotta have time and patience

If the job has a uniform then obviously you have to wear it, but you can still do whatever you want with your hair and face (for example, if you have facial piercings you can leave them in and your job can't say anything about it as long as you're in your uniform). If it's a job where you have to wear a helmet, hard hat or other protective equipment, all you have to worry about is that your hairstyle comfortably fits under the hat/helmet/whatever... There's a technique for taking blonde hair back to light brown, med brown, and dark brown, etc. The trick is filling the hair shaft with another color first. It sounds crazy, but it prevents your hair from turning greenish or blueish brown. When you bleach hair, you're leaving the shaft hollow from pulling the pigment out. You need to refill the shaft with a base color before going brown. At least that's how it was explained to me when I made that exact mistake and ended up with greenish brown hair. It was heartbreaking to see my hair like that. Lesson learned. Years later when I decided to go from blonde back to light brown I did it correctly. The color was a beautiful light brown.
The process of going dark brown from blonde requires that you dye the blonde hair RED first.
    Yes, red.
If you're going light brown use a golden or light auburn color.
It fills the shaft with a base color for the brown to lay on.
First you dye with the filler color, rinse, and dry. Second you apply the brown color of your choice over the red/golden/auburn color.
    I promise, it works.
    Anyone who needed this information..
You're welcome and happy hair coloring!
Ps: Brad Mondo has some great videos explaining the mechanics in detail on his UA-cam. There's also great articles online by searching Google.

@@karmakameleon113 Unfortunately I'm one of those hair disaster stories. Lesson learned a little late, but better late than never. I don't wish my hair disaster on anyone. It looked brown in low light, but in the sun in looked this sickly, nasty, greenish color. What a nightmare! I paid big $$ to a colorist to get it fixed. Thankfully this wonderful professional explained everything I did wrong & how to avoid this happening in the future. It worked beautifully too when I finally felt comfortable doing my own hair years & years later. Best of luck to those brave enough to experiment on their hair. Sometimes it's a wonderful experience, sometimes you end up with muddy, green, ugly, splotchy hair. If you are left with any hair at all! Oh boy, I've seen that too. Watched a close friend ignore my advice & TRIPLE PROCESSED her already damaged hair. Total ramen noodles for hair. Falling out everywhere. It's a science & an art. Sometimes ppl forget that.

I had locs for 9 years then I combed them out. I had 120 locs it took me a month. PROCESS: I cut the ends off. I used a conditioner and water mix. I dipped my loc into the water mixture, squeezed out the excess water and used a rat tail comb (the one with the metal at the end) and took my time to detangle my hair. My hair was bra strap length after I was finished. Just take your time. I still have my hair so if I decide to loc it back I will use my own hair to do it.

I ended up with hip length hair, but I cut it back to armpit length. I nourashed it back to health, and now it's waist length again.
I was shocked at the state of my hair after combing them out. My hair just didn't want to hold a curl. I had crazy shrinkage and frizzy hair. It took a few months before it behaved like normal again.

Then over the pandemic I was doing foolishness with adding extensions onto my already long locs which made the heavier. So when my stylist said my loc was starting to thin at the root I told her to cut off the extensions. But then I went home and cut more off into a bob.
Then I combine them to make then thicker so it’s growing out now and I’m happier with the results. I never have a thought jump in my head that I want to pick out or cut all my locs off…I love them…I had enough of dealing with my natural hair out and I got sick of doing it. Never want to go back

I remember being at a burger restaurant directly after my wash and set. And the young lady who served me admired my hair. I told her about my journey and she said ‘I was thinking about getting locs to comb them out for the hair growth.’ And I was like 😵‍💫🙅🏾‍♀️ nah chill. I told her that I was blessed to not have damaged my hair too much and retained my length. But I was like don’t go into with that mindset. You’ll hate them. And then there’s no guarantee that once combed out it will be the ‘hair you dreamed it would.’ Combing them out is a difficult decision…at least it was with me.
It took me 3 weeks to comb out my 77 locs. I liked my locs A LOT. But I didn’t love them. I didn’t really get the style I wanted, so I figured I should comb them out and try again. I've combed out one or two locs and then was like no, no way, not doing this! 😂 That's one of the great thing about locs is there is so many opportunities to change your mind and go back. Also I think dry is better imo, when hair is wet I think it's more fragile, more susceptible to damage, especially if it's bleached, but I see why people think it's better to do wet, because it's like lubrication for the hairs to slip past each other easier.
