Definitely the best video out there. I make a loop in the braid and hook it over the reel handle to make a bow and keep tension on the braid which is easy loop and automatically tightens on the leader as you loop it.
when tieing onto light leaders I highly recommend just resting your rod down in a leaning position and using the rod tip action to create tension on your braid as you make the 20x loops. That way there is nothing in your mouth up in your face or using up too much line. I also prefer to tie the rizzuto finish onto the leader as well, cut it just above the rizutto. I then wet the knot, and with a lighter make a small round end on the mono/ fluo leader which has many many times saved the knot from slipping if it ever does.
@@xemagaldon very close to how I tie mine, definitely a practical way too tie. I guess it just comes to playing with the knot a lot and seeing what works best for you and how to finish off the knot.
Thanks, easier to see compared to a film clip. The braid kept slipping from my teeth so I tied it to a clothes peg and put that in my mouth. Worked a treat.
It is important to keep line tension. A guide I know ties an overhand knot to create a loop and then puts the loop around the reel handle to create the line tension to tie the knot. He does it very fast. Just takes practice.
At last, a clear video BUT took me several goes before I understood that the braid needs to 'curl up' with each pass of the leader to form the characteristic cross-hatch pattern. I found tensioning from the rod tip to my knees provided the required tension but also had sufficient give to allow this to happen.
It needs more that 2 half hitches before its trimmed. 5 minimum but use more. Then you can trim it close. The half hitches just are there mainly to keep the tag end flush and even so it can run through the eyes smoothly.
It's because this video doesn't explain when you need to cinch the braid up. The FG only works when the thinner braid bites into the thicker mono or fluoride leader. Also, it's better to use a Risutto finish than those two half hitches.
The old Chinese finger torture device... (remember those, at the old school féte). A clever friction principle, redeployed. Upshot... it lowers your annual swivel expenditure & you only need one knot instead of two, for the same result! Bonus.
Failing at the very start any advice? I can't seem to get the fishing line braid as far into my mouth as the initial diagram suggests. Got my daughter at home to help she seems to be able to manage it fine but she doesn't come fishing with me so need to be able to do it myself, any tips?
The knot started out using a series of hitch knots, then came all kinds of variation, the Rizzuto knot for example, that I use myself. This is also a variation. Thing is, the "lock" of the knot is a limp end, there's no pressure unto it, and so basically just serves to prevent the braid from slipping through the lock and untie the FG part (Firm Grip). As such the variations all work, basically more or less the same. So you want a lock knot, that is thin an continues the shape of the FG, to take advantage of its ease of use going through eyes and such.
Has anyone tried this, successfully, with fly line to braid? I want to cut the shooting head off a skagit line and attach P-Line's yellow floating line to the shooting head... let me know what you mad scientists think.
In lots of tests FG keeps 85 to 90 percent of test lb. Improved Alberto around 80 and double uni about 75. So if using 20 lb braid FG fails around 17-18 lbs.
Think of FG as referring to Friction Grip. BTW, give it Good tug before cutting the tag end. I would also recommend the leader being wrapped wiped with rubbing alcohol for a better grip/bite.
I'm always look for this video to made the fg knot. It's the best and simple video to made it. Thank you
Thank you best fg videos ever
Straight to the point......... no bullshit, easy to understand. One of the best video out there.
True!!!
true!
Agree!!
Yeah I agree..there s no fingers hands head arms of a human in the way and can actually see what is happening!

By far the only video that made sense. Thank you.
I tied my first FG knot with this video, thank you! I used two car stands and clamps to hold my line while I weaved the first 20x.. pretty happy!
Best video of the FG knot. For Dummies. Thanks I finally got it right!!!
Many videos I watched, this is the best and easy to understand.

Awesome and simple to follow. Thanks!

the most simplest explanation for all.
I have a bunch of leaders to do, nice version, thanks 👍

Exactly
Very useful thanks
It looks hard on paper but it’s simple after doing it 3 times
Still can’t do it

I can’t tie this thing for my life 😂
Hahaha stick with uni to uni
Finally something easy
This is a whole new level of knot 0.0

Good one , cool man
number one ,leader knot,
I am going to have to try this out, i always use the double uni but this one looks like it could actually be stronger? What are your thoughts?
This one supposedly stronger. This knot also is a much better option when joining lines of drastically different diameters.
Great, thank you 👍

ready to share fishing experiences

tuged on it a few times after completing step by step. popped right off the leader.

That final knot can slide up the line. Is there one that's a little better?

if anyone is confused just look up the tutorial by briggsy and it should make sense
Can I use this knot to connect multi+mono or this FG knot works only with the braid?
Only works with braid that is a lot thinner than the mono or fluorocarbon leader
@@andrewmorke thx! I thought so! Wasnt able to do this with mono... Plus the same colour... Tragedy... I use double uni mono+multi.

In this form this knot will fail...search on youtube "modified fg knot"...this is the only way to do it.

The hitch knots ALWAYS unravel over time
To stop that end with 2 half hitches with braid to braid
@@bobbybass1944 Doesn't work it ALWAYS unravels, I ditched the half hitches and use a rizutto finish, WAY better.

I would suggest a little glue to hold the knots in place.

It's hard and takes time to do.. The yucatan knot it's more easy to do and much quicker! I recommend the yucatan knot! 😉✌️🎣
But the Yucatan is bulkier if you need to cast the leader through the guides and it's heaps weaker than the FG. Horses for courses.
I agree. The yucatan is too bulky to run through the guides and it doesn't even offer nearly the same amount of strength.
Very hard
Top demais irmão parabéns.
I'm trying to tie this to a leader that is not too thick. 0.45mm, 20.7 kg.
I cannot do it, the leader keeps twisting and curling, very frustrating
instead of using your mouth you can wrap the braid around your pinky. Then you have 9 fingers you can use.
Has anyone tried this, successfully, with fly line to braid? I want to cut the shooting head off a skagit line and attach P-Line's yellow floating line to the shooting head... let me know what you mad scientists think.
How much pound do this knot bear?
Jingyu Ock until the line snaps
In lots of tests FG keeps 85 to 90 percent of test lb. Improved Alberto around 80 and double uni about 75. So if using 20 lb braid FG fails around 17-18 lbs.

I’ll stick with my Crazy Alberto knot
The crazy Alberto is at best a 75% knot. The FG is 100% and really not that hard to do on the water.
