I learned the Hustle from champions in the late 70s and ended up teaching it for many years and still do. It was the first dance I learned and fostered my love of ballroom dancing. My closest favorite is WCS❤️❤️
That is awesome! Hustle was one of my first dances too but it quickly took a back seat to the others I was learning. (I was getting confused as a new dancer) but it's a great dance! Thanks for sharing your story! -Brian

@@SocialDanceOnline Nice thing about the syncopated hustle - it's impossible to be on the wrong beat! later on I was corrupted an wife and I started competing in international modern. Never made it terribly far. Kids got in the way and we weren't willing to sell our souls for the necessary coaching. We did belong to the same club is the current usa amatuer champs. She had a nifty T-shirt. It said "Shut up and Dance!"
I'm watching Hustle instruction videos, and all of them don't show dance with music. I wonder how does Hustle step fit four beat music because Hustle step is three beats.
Great question,. it's tricky to answer via text but I'll give it a shot. Hustle is a 3 beat dance (&1,2,3). Sometimes dance studio (and dancers) simply walk out the basic and make it fit in 4 beats of music (1,2,3,4) It actually 'fits' the music better as a 4 beat dance and it's easier but unfortunately that's not what true hustle is. I cover the timing at :28 of this video. I hope that helps just a bit. -Brian

My wife & I have been learning the hustle from our instructor. I find it very strange to do a 3 count dance to 4/4 music. I have to actively ignore the music, which as a musician myself, is virtually impossible. So I refuse to do the 3 count version. (I actually suggested to the instructor last week that we should do the 3 count version to a waltz. She had never heard of that but we tried it and of course it worked. We call it the “wustle”. 😬
I think that telegraphed demanding is ridiculous when dancing in the club. That is what I never understood about dancing in the club. I dance random at the club and if you’re a good dancer, you can dance random at the club. I mix up all my knowledge in dancing all in one. It’s fun and more enjoyable. These choreographed dancing moves are only suppose to be used for competitions. What these people do is they use these choreographed dancing moves at the club which just looks ridiculous.

Ballroom dance isn't for everyone.
You can really see how this has strongly influenced the style of the swing over the last decade and a half😢
