Can you help me. Why when correcting the wheels after making a full turn . I cannot do it , it takes forever for me to straighten the wheels. I even tend to go on the upcoming traffic.
New Zealand road code requires us to drive with this technique. I may not like it but it's how it is. You demonstrated excellent driving ability, it's the matter of getting use to it before my test Thank you so much for showing me this!
So happy was I'll last week so missed my first lesson after 9months of not having any been watching your videos and today I managed to go straight back to doing left emerges, left turns etc and my instructor said my steering was perfect which I was so happy with so I just wanted to say thank you :)
Hey you are a god send!!!!! Steering is one of those things that as I've gone further in to my lessons I've lost the ability to do correctly, my instructor explains, by saying don't cross your arms and it's not a white knuckle ride , but still couldn't work out what and how I was meant to be doing it ( temporarily dippy moment) This video explained and showed me everything I needed to know, it was a dahdahhhhhh moment. Thankyou James, these videos are getting me through this and will get me through my test! You're simple the best! ⭐️ Lesson today , so I'll put it in to practice.
I agree with some of the comments here - with modern cars that have power steering, hand-to-hand is an antiquated technique. And moving the steering wheel back after turning is redundant - the steering wheel will come back on it's own - just open your fingers and let it recover, and then make adjustments in steering. As the suggested video on the right - this is a technique you should un-learn after you get your licence. Unfortunately, you need to know it and do it to pass the test. All the best, Cheers Rick
Zurkster it might work for you but you probably are a hazard to everybody else on the road which causes accidents for other people. The amount of times I see people who feed the wheel over break at junctions causing people driving at the speed to limit to break hard just so they can turn the corner it’s dangerous as well as indicating late. So although you might not think you’re doing any wrong for it but that person who’s had to break hard behind you could have been shunted by someone else.
@@elpatron3446 We see some pretty awful stuff on these threads, but that one just takes the biscuit. If drivers have to brake on approach to a turn, it's because they're going to fast. What's that got to do with the way they turn the wheel, for God's sake?
I have watched a few of you videos now. I have got to say you are really good at explaining things clearly. I wish you where my instructor. I feel my instructor is impatient and gets frustrated if I do something wrong. I think I am going to change my instructor. I have said to him a couple of times "you have got to remember I am learning". Still his attitude is bad.

Some people have alleged this is a dangerous steering technique, nonsense. The government would not permit anything intrinsically dangerous on driving tests. Many years ago faults on the driving test included CAT and CAB for steering. This was crossing hands at top and bottom respectively. No longer the case steering faults are now outcome based. The system is tricky to master extremely effective for general road use but totally not cool. Emergency manoeuvres have been mention as a weak point not sure if that is true, not had one in past twenty years, but the best system in an emergency is "the emergency stop". Stopping in a straight line is preferred prior to considering swerving. I remember seeing a video of an uninjured guy whose car was on its roof who said "I swerved to avoid hitting a squirrel". My advice is that if you can master it use this very safe system. Travis has put out a lot of good information on driving why would he wrong on steering? If there is a superior system nobody has described what it is.
Gear changing should not be rushed, if it is you will find you will miss gears and just off clutch causing car to judder. Plan your approach and give yourself time to do your gear changing.
Hi, this is one of those questions where a lot depends on if you are crossing your hands a lot and is crossing your hands considered to be a safety to you and those around you. It will start as a minor fault depending on the situation. But if you swerve and this is a result from crossing your hands, then a serious fault.
@@JamesTravis Thank you so much . Just let me know please is that not serious fault or not fail at all .? If I will keeping the car under a safe control...
Learn-to-drive Travis thank you I had my first two hours today and that was the main thing I was struggling with this video helped me get a better idea of the concept
+Westley Walker A lot would depend on the turn. Some are tight turns and some are wide long turns. The best advise would be to try a left turn in first gear. Don't look at the wheel, look at where you want the car to go and follow it. Then repeat it. Once you start to get used to the turns, then use 2 nd gear.
*"Forget about feeding the wheel or the pull push method its the most dangerous way possible of steering your car."* Is that because it's the most dangerous way possible of steering your car - or because you say it is?
I've been taught by both instructors i've had to move my left hand just above where the right hand is to turn left as it's easier to get the car round especially for the really tight corners
I watched some of your videos and they are wonderful. Could you please do videos of approaching round about which are the tricky ones in Bletchley thanks.

This technique is just to satisfy the examiner. It's not practical in the real world.
My thoughts to. You can't steer fast like that. Hand over hand is safer in my opinion.

you should rename this video: how not to turn a steering wheel correctly,
this method can be dangerous and uncomfortable at tight corners
Slow down at a tight corner then?
*"This method can be dangerous."* So can any other method, if it's not done properly. So what?

I’ve found this method to be good for tight turns
thats great
Chances that the hand actually hits your face pr brake it, are nearly zero. Any statistics to prove that this even happened before?
